When people kick around who's the greatest comedian all time The Usual Suspects are always mentioned Pryor, Carlin Now Dave Chappelle's name is in the mix. But as far as who made me laugh the most hands down it was Rodney.

I mean this guy is legendary and all, but Bernie Mac does his exact technique sometimes and is just as good. He’s the king for a reason. This guy is just really good at working a crowd with a joke every 2 seconds.(I know the video is edited but he pretty much is just as fast) But in the end that’s all he does. I didn’t even know people liked him like that. But after reading these comments I guess people like him. But it gets boring after 10min

Rodney said he suffered from depression most of his life. He certainly knew how to make us forget our own sorrows. I hope he knew how much he delighted his audience, & how much we appreciated & valued the gift of laughter he gave us! RIP, Rodney.

Those around us who always make Wise cracks always like to joke around lifing other people's spirits up? Could that be a sign of hiding or coping with their own sadness and depression? I can see that in myself too always trying to make other people crack up when you notice that they're sad and they could use a little pick me up. Give us a sense of worth and enjoyment when you see other people laugh. And you see so many people have their own different ways of laughing. I always like enjoy watching them with the different ways they crack up when I make them laugh

I'm soo glad we have clips of him. all though he's gone he'll never get old.

I find Geechy Guy funny with one liners also however, he can be focused on the mature side and dirty beyond anything Rodney said.

Can't leave out, "I met the Surgeon General; he offered me a cigarette" in front of President Reagan. :)

Met Rodney in1984or 1985 while I was Director of Operations at the Omni Berkshire hotel in NYC. He would come down in his bathrobe and hang out with the concierges and make them laugh quite a bit. Every joke or story was different, as though he was making them up at the spur of the moment - - comic genius AND a really nice guy. He is truly missed.

Rodney has always been my favorite! Been laughing at his jokes 60yrs.

My wife and I saw him a year or so before he passed when we were in Vegas. It was no stop laughter, one joke after the next. The place was packed and everyone was laughing their asses off. Glad I got to see him. Rodney was the best.

A delivery that can never be duplicated. This man was a great. RIP

I never saw Rodney live, and I regret it so much. Saw Kinnison twice in Rochester NY….extraordinary. I go to see Gilbert any time he is near where I am. Saw him at Carolines in the big city……just incredible.

Yup, he was one of a kind, life was just brutal to him but he just kept on plugging away; man that's inspirational! Did see him live in 89 and he was unstoppable, not only worked with the crowd but he was just brutal to the hecklers....it was great. If you're going to heckle a comedian Rodney should be your last choice.

Absolute genius! What’s great about him is his jokes are still funny today! And of course the delivery is the best !

At the lowest points of my life Rodney had me hysterically laughing, to this day when I'm down 5 minutes is all it takes for Rodney to make me feel better. RIP Rodney, and thank you for the laughs.

It's interesting watching him progress through the various eras and stages of his career all in one video. You can literally see how he perfected his craft over the years. His delivery, timing, all of it, got hammered into its absolute best possible form. No fat, no filler, just pure funny. It's nowhere NEAR as easy as he made it look. That's the mark of a true master: Making the difficult appear effortless.

I watch his stuff over and over, and it cracks me up every time

After the joke about the flies pitching in to fix the screen door he had a follow up joke...."My wife's a horrible cook. Last week, the garbage disposal threw up." The Greatest.

My wife told me to take out the garbage…I said “You cooked it, YOU take it out!”. RIP Rodney.

One of a kind. There'll never be another one like him. When I saw him in concert it was so hard to keep up with his rapid fire on liners. I hardly got started laughing at the 1st joke when I'm laughing at the next one and the next one until I laughed non stop the whole show. It took me a couple of days to recuperate from my side and voice being so sore. We sure need him now.

One of the best. No foul language just pure comedy. Genius.

What makes Rodney unique is what I call his "rapid fire" delivery. Most comedians tell and joke and get a laugh, then tell another joke, and so on. Rodney's jokes are like a machine gun. they're rapid and nonstop. He was truly one of kind.

I recently watched a show about Eddie Murphy and he told of the first time he met Rodney, that he said that he should not use profanity,they ran into each other years later and Rodney said" who knew " about his rise to stardom.Eddie said he was almost crying with laughter after his observation of his career so far and Rodney just kept firing away,one after the other, until Eddie said stop, I can't keep up and I am sore from laughing. Genius doesn't die, it just grows old disgracefully.

My favorite Rodney joke which I taped off the radio around 1980: "I've always had bad luck with cars....always taking it to a mechanic. And at the shop, I always know where to find it...it's up on a lift. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it going up and down...up and down. I've got the only car in the world that has more miles on it vertically than horizontally".

Rodney was a treasure. A real comedian, he didn't have to dazzle you with clever wordplay or stories, it was all the timing and delivery. He primes you to laugh and then delivers it. Brilliant stuff. And don't ever forget, he could sweat with the best of them. You can't teach sweat.

To your second sentence, I'd bet you get more laughter per minute from Rodney than anyone else. Simply because like you said, less story telling, word play, more punch lines. You have to pay good attention because he's so fast with his humor. Love 'em!

I only wish I could have met him & told him he made me laugh from the first time I ever heard him speak, and I'm still laughing at every joke. His delivery was perfect!!!

Rodney was one of the very greatest! Listening to this video, though, I think there's something missing. The ACT! There's something special to be had in the flow of his routine, that doesn't come through in these disconnected jokes.

His look had a lot to do with it also.

"I gave her a hickey, and got fur in my mouth" - that line killed me. "Toast with bones in it", now that's a terrible cook.

No one, before or since, has even come close to this legends incredible sense of humor!! The ability to use simple and short bits of self depreciation in such an artful manner is still unprecedented!!! Myself and many others enjoyed the countless hours of joy and laughter you provided, and though film and social media, still provide for us!!!!

Try seeing him in the lobby of a UES skyscriper in his robe either walking to the NYHRC across the street, Catch A Rising Star (where Chris Rock even mentioned it), and with his tour bus.

I HEARD SOMEONE MENTION HE SAW RODNEY LIVE. PEOPLE WERE THROWING JOINTS ON STAGE. RODNEY PICKED UP THE BIGGEST JOINT AND SMOKED IT FOR THE REMAINING 45 MINUTES!!

When I heard that He passed away; I got all choked up! He moved next door to me!! He was truly an orginal, and a Class Act! No one could make me laugh, like He could!!

The greatest thing about Rodney, is he was all comedy genius and didn’t depend on profanity shock factor; he knew the difference. He was the guy at the local bar in NY. Truly one of the greatest of all time.

Absolute comic genius. One of the greatest of our time. There will NEVER be another beauty like RD.

I'll never forget Rodney in "Caddyshack". He lets a big fart and says, "Hey who stepped on a duck?" I never laughed so hard in my life!!

The ending was great , helping the judge to find his check book !! The boat scene , Hey Smals , you scratched my anchor . Now , I no why Tigers eat their young .!! It was a great cast but Rodney stole the show . Always a fun movie to watch .

@@garryrc when we had really " talented comedians " They could make you laugh in so many ways, just with an expression on their face , quick one liners , .Some of the zany scenarios , Many talented writers , script writers too . From the that " somewhat " radical ' not ready for prime time players in SNL and the movies they pioneered . Animal House , Caddy Shack , Blues Brothers , Coming to America , Trading places ,and a few others I've not mentioned but .Pure Laughter is a great healer of many ailments . better to say LMAO than WTF !!! 😂

Rodney was one of the all time greats and despite his bits about no respect he really had plenty of respect especially from those young comics whom he helped in getting started. He was also one of those who could think on their feet you just couldn't throw him off on stage he was quick with the comeback. One Rodney classic here "My old man he told me to you gotta start at the bottom. He was teaching me how to swim"

The best 14 minutes and 47 seconds therapy I've ever had!!! Non-stop laughter🤣Really miss you Rodney. Thank God we have all this videos and your records.

I saw him at the Wisconsin State Fair in the early 60's - a side show, still selling his act. Love at first sight! When it was over I wondered if I'd ever see him again, best of the best!

He had a mind like a steel trap. Always hilarious, rapid-fire one-liners.

Heard them all and laugh just as hard! His looks and delivery are great!
