The more I think about this song, the more somber it becomes. Sounds less like a love song and more like a song about saying goodbye to someone or something that is very important to you. Sometimes we can look at the same event with a mixture of joy and sorrow, and I think this song does a great job of conveying that. Either way, I’m glad you came to listen and enjoy it with me. You rock!

For background, Isabella Bennett (who wrote the song) meant it as a love song but went through a breakup while it was being written so it took that turn, as I understand it.

I always felt like the majors and minors playing around in this song lends to the Bittersweetness of this song. Being in love and losing love. Idk if it was done on purpose or not, but it gives the whole song a wonderful vibe. ❤

Regarding the 4 voices at once--I think you'll find it's actually live and not mixed from multiple recordings, as they do have one or two additional voices of members of the band who do NOT dress up. When The John leaves the band, one of the background singers takes his place as the character Hatchwork and begins dressing up in steampunk gear. He probably is singing along in this song, along with one other band member who never dresses up.

Check out this video to see the additional two voices in the band. This song is from the same album as Honeybee and is from the same time period. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYWLu4-Df8usYqw.html

Hey Darvell! Welcome to the channel! I don’t recall if I mentioned this in the video, but I actually met SPG (with Hatchworth) back in about 2014. I got a picture with them and they signed my copy of the 2¢ Show. I chatted with Michael Philip Reed, who even friended me on Facebook after the show. I’ve been following them on KZread ever since, so I’m pretty up to date on their member changes and harmonies. Seems to me like the 4th voice is Michael, as stated on the band website. I definitely miss Hatchworth, but their new third member, Zero, is pretty fun too. They’re all quite pleasant people outside of their characters too.

Just came from your BTS tiny desk concert reaction and was pleasantly surprised to find Honeybee amongst your reactions. I love Steam Powered Giraffe. Their harmonies are beautiful.

Their harmonies are SO beautiful! I met them back in…2014? And they’re all great humans. Even inspired me to work on my animatronic movements, haha! Ever tried to move robotically? (Also, thank you so much for checking out more than just one artist. Means a lot!)
