Band BIO:
Steam Powered Giraffe is an American musical project formed in San Diego in 2008, self-described as "a musical act that combines robot pantomime, puppetry, ballet, comedy, projections, and music". Created and led by identical twins David Michael Bennett and Isabella Bunny Bennett, the act combines music and improvisational comedy on-stage, although their studio works focus almost solely on music. Steam Powered Giraffe has its own fictional mythology, with the band members portraying characters both on stage and on record; its fictional universe has been explored via several comic books mainly written and drawn by Isabella Bennett. Although the band underwent several line-up changes, it always focuses primarily on three robot characters (played by the Bennett siblings and a third performer, although the original line-up featured four robots), with several "humans" assisting and performing comedy, music and dancing on stage, and several smaller robots being performed via puppetry or voice acting. To date, they have released six studio albums, a few singles, cover songs, two live albums, several live concert films, provided the soundtrack for the 2015 video game SteamWorld Heist, and released an official single for the 2016 video game Battleborn.
FUN FACTS about band:
- For their first performance in public they called themselves Steam Powered Giraffe Presents: Peoplebots . Later that month they changed their name to just Steam Powered Giraffe
- The members of Steam Powered Giraffe met while taking Theatre Arts at Grossmont College.
Studio Albums:
Album One (2009)
The 2¢ Show (2012)
MK III (2013)
The Vice Quadrant: A Space Opera (2015)
Quintessential (2016)
1896 (2020)

IT WAS SUCH A SURPRISE HEARING IT IN THERE RHE FIRST TIME AND I LOVE IT
They performed for the San Diego Zoo when I was there once; they started here--I know those cliffs! They are a complete troubadour act and stay in autonomic character throughout with skits and gags through the performance.

That is awesome!
The last line of the song put everything in its place: "I didn't know I was crazy!" A very sad song. At first, the picture bothered me with something (it strained me, distracted me from listening). Then I felt a revelation in the voice of the singers. Everything fell into place in my head. The end, they completely made me sad. Thanks, guys, for the reaction. I was once again convinced that the first look at the subject is not always correct. A beautiful song. A sad song.

I cried the hundredth time, it reminds of an old relationship. Also I vibe so much with spine having a similar bass-baritone voice and range.
I met them in 2010 in balboa Park. Before getting their music published they were street performers. Its mostly why their robot mannerisms are on point, they were out there miming for food money. They have made so much music over the years now. Definitely check out any of their other songs too.
I adore this band so much. Isabella's lead vocals on this are just gorgeous and relaxing as hell, but omg the harmonies on top

So, the big question... will you cover more of their songs? The band composition's changed a few times since this video, and it's a different, but still wonderful, experience. For teh third album, you can watch "Catch Hatch Fever" live at teh La Jolla Playhouse in Sand Deigo fo that iteration of the band. For the 5th, you can use "I don't have a name for it" or "Malfunction". For teh 6th, we have another line-up change, with "Shattered Stars". Excellent group!

You should listen to brass goggles
Humor me for a second. As soon as I read the lyrics I felt like the environment didn't serve their performance good enough. With their amazing robotic/muppet style. This would've done better if they were all on a stage in front of the audience and the main singer started to tell the story of how he became conscious or alive once he saw the smile of that lady. The desire to be liberated so he could be with her. Where at the end of the music shows the lady leaving as the only audience who was watching the performance or at least the only person the singer sees in his world until she leaves him alone and he has to live with that lonely pain. Something in the tones telling me this has more like a circus vibes but a sad one. Like the concept of the clown making everyone enjoy their time but he is sad deep inside.
