    This is incredible. NIJ needs to set some new standards in between the pistol and rifle ratings for these kind of plates, it's misleading that these are "3a" plates.

    Nice! I realize this is an older video and the market has changed dramatically since, but to state the obvious if a person is getting into ceramic/PE now in late 2020, there's no reason to go any lower than Level III or Level IV. They're super cheap and not really much heavier. Of course even a few years ago when this was made that wasn't the case. Great videos, you're one of the subs I've stuck with the longest.🤘🇺🇸

    And steel is the opposite. Ceramic is best except that it can't take near as many hits as steel or polyethylene

    would love to see you do a rehash with M80 ball, the website claims it can stop 1-2 rounds, but it’d be neat to see the BFD, and also some of the steel core ammo with a soft armor backer, like you did with the L210.

    Worth repeating that this plate is 2.53 pounds and 0.8 inches thick. So for them to include the A in the rating is a bit odd since it's really closer to the weight and form factor of a normal UHMWPE rifle plate than anything you would normally consider Level IIIA.

    how is a 3a rated for m193?? wouldnt that make it a level 3 rifle plate?

  • @BuffRANGE

    @BuffRANGE

    7 жыл бұрын

    +Brian Hunter this is where it gets tricky. NIJ standards are minimums. 5.56 isn't listed as a standard NIJ threat. This plate easily makes IIIa standards, it's labeled as such since it probably would fail against the NIJ Level III M80 ball. PE plates stop high velocity threats as long as they're lighter and don't contain steel

  • @brianhunter8627

    @brianhunter8627

    Hey Bud love what you do! yea these ratings can get sorta funky, its insane that a 9MM steel core was poking out the back but stopped 2 5.45mm.... the steel plates light and fast do better( m193, 7n6) but these plates battle rifle calibers would do better but stop the small fast rounds that kill steel plates. I guess n.i.j ratings dont matter very much when you are just trying to poke a hole in them for entertainment.

  • @BuffRANGE

    @BuffRANGE

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, It's interesting to say the least. This plate would be an awesome alternative to a Level III steel plate, except it can't stop M855, or M80 (at least at full velocity). I want to test an actual NIJ level III composite next.

  • @user-oy9zy4ds9m

    @user-oy9zy4ds9m

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yep. For example the 22-250 is like a 30 grain? Or lighter round going over 4,000 fps goes right through the AR500 III+ 1/4" 11lb steel plate that stops true AP rounds. But ceramic or composite level III plates (lesser rating than III+) stop the round cold with not even a trace of back deformation at all. I wonder if this PE plate would stop it since it's a very light round but going super fast. (4100 fps)
