Today, we’re going to take a look at how salt can effectively get rid of bacteria, fungi, yeast, and mold in the body. Salt causes water to move out of the cell, eliminating these pathogens through dehydration.
Salt thins mucus with this same mechanism. Salt removes water from the mucus, making it thinner so that it can be more easily expelled from the body.
To eliminate mucus using salt, dissolve a teaspoon of sea salt (not table salt) in a glass of water. Drink or gargle the salt water. This exposes the mouth and throat to salt, which helps to get rid of mucus, improves immunity, and strengthens the autonomic nervous system.
You can also use diluted apple cider vinegar. This changes the pH and helps kill microbes.
A Neti pot uses nasal irrigation to gently send a stream of diluted salt water through your sinuses, helping to thin the mucus. If you have a constant post-nasal drip, you may have a fungal infection or mold issue going on in your sinuses, and cutting sugar from your diet may help.
You can also use a humidifier with a saltwater solution while you sleep. A humidifier turns liquid into vapor, allowing you to inhale the salt water. Halotherapy, or salt therapy, can also be beneficial.
If none of these remedies seem to be working, an ear infection could be the source of your mucus. In this case, try putting four to five drops of saltwater directly into each ear. You can try the same thing with diluted apple cider vinegar or use one drop of garlic oil in each ear.
Vitamin D supports your immune system and helps prevent mucus. Vitamin D deficiencies are associated with enlarged tonsils, sinus allergies, sinus mucus, and ear infections. Try taking 20,000 to 50,000 IU of vitamin D once per week to address mucus.

I grew up in PA, had bad hay fever yet continued to bail hay. I had awful sinus headaches even after moving away. One day I went swimming and tried swimming to the bottom. As I got deeper, pressure and pain started in my sinuses, I surfaced and tried again, each time able to go a little deeper. Apparently the repeated pressure changes loosened everything up, when I blew my nose it was the thickest, greenest mucus I'd ever seen. I have not had a sinus headaches since and that was 40 years ago.

I am from India and I had tonsil growing up and have dust allergy, doctors here always recommend warm salt water gargle. It is also pretty common here since ancient times. We use normal sea salt. Some people cant swallow or gargle with salt water coz they might vomit, for them commonly betadine gargling solution is used. Even with severe throat infections which are treated with antibiotics, doctors still recommend salt water gargling and it surely does help and I can testify to that. If some one has mild throat itchiness, they can cure it just by gargling 2-3 times a day. The key is to start early and not wait till it gets worse.Good to see a western doctor sharing this easy home remedy. PS : Steam helps tremendously for for blocked nose and sinus. Steam from pots, steam rooms they not only clear nostrils but helps clearing mucus from chest as well. Another thing that helps chest mucus cleaning is swimming. I am no expert but these are my personal life experiences.

Thank you so much Dr. Berg. I was getting a sore throat with a lot of sinus and mucous and normally the next stage is normally congestion moves to my lungs and turns to bronchitis. I have a history of this pattern. I had watched this video a few days before having the symptoms and thought I would give drinking a teaspoon of sea salt and water a try. I also took an allergy pill and slept for 10 hours last night. It is now the next evening and I have very little sinus congestion. Sore throat is gone and feel like I am about over it and as I said, this is extremely unusual for me once these symptoms start. My wife also had the same symptoms starting on the same time but didn’t drink the sea salt water last night. Today is the second day and her sinuses and lungs are both congested with a lot of coughing. I am going to get her to drink the sea salt tonight. Thanks again Dr. Berg.

I have lived near the sea most of my life and use it as a healer. I thank my parents for their wisdom in knowing the healing power of the ocean. Cold or flu? We'd be taken or sent for a swim each day until better, even in winter. Tinea, dermatitis, skin rashes, any wound. All were treated in the sea. We were even taken swimming while recovering from chickenpox and measles. Our dogs also got the sea remedy. When not having access to the sea salt gargles are the first remedy.

I agree. As a youngster living on the coast and swimming in the sea, I never suffered from sinus. Also I believe the ocean breezes getting rid of the smog. When I moved inland I my 20s, my sinus problems started and still continues. I do spraymy nose with diluted salt water which helps. I'll definitely be following the above advice.🎉.

Recently I got hit by a very nasty flu that had me coughing for over a month and it wouldn’t go away. Now that I’m watching this video, I realized that I may have done all that Dr. Berg just said inadvertently and got rid of the mucus in my throat and stopped coughing none stop. I do long distance driving for a living, and consume a lot of pumpkin, or sunflower seeds while driving (They help me stay awake)😵‍💫. They are both lightly salted and make me drink plenty of water too, and by my wife’s advice I also used a heating pad by placing it behind my back, and that made me feel better (Always listen to your wife)😊. After the trip, I can say 99% of my coughing was gone and my throat felt much better, BTW I was drinking plenty of hot tea with cloves and cinnamon sticks added in the water while boiling. Finaly, thanks to Dr. for all the great advice, they really help a lot.

@@Keezy1987 I don’t know how you concluded me saying pumpkin, and sunflower seeds are bad! After a few minutes, you can cover it with a towel over the pot and over your nose, to avoid cooling down too quickly, and to channel the vapors to your breathing. It keeps the sinus working properly and makes it very very easy to expectorate (cough out) phlegm in your lungs with a light cough or two or even a light clearing of the throat.
