Replacing Worn Out Leaf Springs & Shocks | Jeep Cherokee XJ
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Replacing shocks and springs on a XJ is usually easier said than done! Our project XJ was no exception. Years of rust on the original leaf springs seized the mounting bolts to the inner metal sleeve of the bushing.

Lots of fun doing this job. I did this on my 99, just like you had fun. Great job and video ! 👍

Right on man!
I did leaf springs and shocks and it was a bit of work. Took my time and just kept chipping away. The leaf was broken on the front passenger eye so I was able to get it off and then cut the bushing away. Then found the split of the steel eye and spread that open with a hammer and screwdriver. Then came the heat on the bolt and out it came. It’s a bit time consuming but my local spring shop had quoted me over a grand to get it done. The new springs and shocks fixed the sag and the clunking on the right side over bumps with any passengers. Well worth the efforts.

@@JeepinJimmy oh absolutely. I always just say that for every buck you spend on parts double it to include labor for a mechanic. I’ve spent a few grand just on parts. I’d be 4-5 grand in if I didn’t do it myself. Scary. I’m not complaining on mechanics either. I just couldn’t afford to use one on the regular. They definitely have to make a living!
great job ! To get out my leaf spring bolts was far the worst job I ever done to my XJ

Thanks man! It is definitely one of the worst projects if it has never been done before lol
"All that time just to be safe... not worth it" 😆
Loosen quarter turn, spray more, tighten quarter turn, spray, work it out bit by bit.
I just did the leafs on my 96. Soaked the with PB Blaster for days and used heat. Took some muscle but all bolts came out. I think I got lucky. Somebody told me if I was going to use a cut off wheel that close to the gas tank to fill the gas tank up as far as possible. A full tank is far less dangerous than an empty tank full of fumes.

Spider friend at 4:07! lol Thanks for showing the steps on this! Planning on picking up an XJ next spring for a summer project. Hope to get it ready in time for the snow to fly! What paint are you using on the axel?

Right on man! Its ACE rust stop satin black
quick tip dont just anti-seize the thread. anti-seize the whole bolt so it will not get rusted to the bushing metal center.
