Replacing Leaf Springs on a Jeep CJ5

Ойын-сауық

I need to replace the front leaf springs on my 1981 Jeep CJ5. They are a spring under setup, and probably a 4” lift which I don’t want. Also I don’t think they are the correct springs for my Jeep CJ5 and they appear to be installed backwards.

Much better. Yes, I talk to parts, too. And that is the cleanest farm jack I've ever seen.

It’s clean because I’ve only had it a month! 😀

I do love the YJ dash, it’s my favorite after the Cj-2 and 3a dash

Yeah I agree Little bit lower does look better. I was given a steering column, I was always told it was out of a golf cart, I just recently found out it was out of a CJ5 so I was able to obtain a horn kit for it.

That’s awesome! Yeah you’re right, the old Cj2 3 and early 5 columns look exactly like golf cart columns!

Lifesaver. I’ve been agonizing over being unable to line that metal nipple in the middle of the spring. Clearly I need to loosen up the other side and I’ll be able to manipulate the axle and get it to align. Thank you !!

Worked like a charm. Now I’m doing the front because apparently not only the back left shock / leaf perch was bent but the front right is as well. Hoping when I’m done the cj5 will be level. If not I may have a slightly bent frame. Around 3/4” Any thoughts on how difficult it’d be to straighten it if that’s the case? Been busting my ass on this thing and I want it to be perfect.

Kinda hoping to see you change shoes, put a sweater on, and sing a song before you started the show.

sooooooooo we really going to just ignore the fact that the passenger front bushing mount is completely loose and flopping around and only has one of the two bolts attaching it to the frame?

Fixed that too, but not included in the final video.

That front bracket shouldn't be loose like that?

I tightened it afterword, bolt threads were worn out, replaced the bolt and also welded the bracket to the frame

New springs look good. Does it have the stock or dropped steering linkage?

Unsolicited advice, never work under a farm jack, use 6 degree wedges for better caster, take your tires off
