What I notice with women and (long term) steroid use is it seems to age them incredibly, in addition to cutting fat excessively, making them look dry and shrively. It is the elephant in the room to me. If that's what someone wants to do, I get it. I personally think men and women look better with a little more fat than those who are cutting the most. Regardless of your gender, being on the extreme ends of lean has got to really mess up your hormones; you probably don't feel that good in addition to not looking your best.

Great video! Also, the voice thing is real. Back in the 80s, I knew a woman who competed at the state level. And after winning her class in every state/regional show, she decided that she wanted to be nationally ranked, so she hopped on a small cycle of Anavar. At the time, she lived with her sister, and when I would call her, it always took a few seconds for me to figure out who picked up the phone (remember, land-line days). After she was on for under a month, I could instantly tell from "hello" who answered the phone! It can happen that fast.

@@mikemac1298 She did qualify and competed in national shows and did fairly well but never got a pro card. She’s now in her mid 60s and still looks good for her age. Her voice is still like that, but it’s now similar to some women her age who’ve never been on gear. The bigger issue is some bone density concerns. That could be due to the gear or the fact that she went literally years with amenorrhea, or maybe a combination of multiple factors. Many strongly competitive athletes, distance runners and ballet dancers for example, have similar issues as they age. Also, quite a few high level athletes, not just women, can develop problems with age. However, if you ask them now, most will say that it was worth it. They’re just wired different.

I like my female voice, I already have lots of hair I have to remove when I shower (Im Hispanic) and I like my healthy boobs and I don't need anymore aggression. So, I guess, competing is not for me. This video has been in my recommended for a looong time since I’m going down a steroid/bodybuilding rabbit hole. I’ve been ignoring it despite my interest in the subject because of how disgustingly judgemental people tend to be when they talk about *women* and steroids but my oh my how refreshing was this video. I love dude in the blues approach to this topic, he’s very clear on the effects, not sugar coating anything but still being informative and kind about how he puts it out there. If I was considering taking juice, I would 100% be more deterred by someone who takes this approach rather than just bashing people just because they personally don’t understand/ aren’t attracted to the look they’re going for. Very Informative, and on a tough subject no less. Bravo. I wonder if there could be an analog to this interview which features gals on the lifestyle yinz are speaking of and they themselves dispell and level-set some of these myths of mindset. You two clearly know such types; though it seems part and parcel that using these substances to 'enhance' one's training as a female also comes with the often convoluted task of denying or softening (publicly) evidence of said use. But it could be interesting to hear about straight from the horse(s), so to speak. And Dr. Mike is a freakydeek like whoa. All respect - but wow, bruv.

Unfortunately, a lot of these side effects are the same as those of us suffering from PCOS - which we don’t choose. You can’t even imagine being an 11 year old girl going through puberty and instead of turning into a curvy, feminine woman, you seem to be turning into a man. There is treatment, but no cure. It does make natural bodybuilding easier, though.

Honest thank you for this. In this generation it's often not embraced to define femininity anymore and talking about losing my femininity because of bodybuilding only gets comments like "voice/curves/hair/attitude don't define femininity!!" But in the end, these just is a biological compound to it and steroids mess with it a lot. I was even considering taking hormones as mine are off anyways, but this video made me think again, not even because I want to be feminine, but because of the impact it has on the body and health.

Female hormones are much more complicated than men. Women can still go to an endocrinologist or a HRT clinic and have their hormones brought up to a healthy young woman level. Women don’t need much testosterone in their system but they still need some. Many women are low T and the clinics can help them. Some are low estrogen or a number of hormones can be low or high. Only bloodwork can tell. Once they level you out you can feel a lot better.

@@fivebooks8498very true. I have adrenal insufficiency and it affects a hormone called dhea that the body converts to estrogen and testosterone. By having low dhea that doesn’t convert to test, I have low test for a woman. I use a 1 percent compounded testosterone cream which just brings me to normal levels. It helps with mood, muscle retention and a several other things and I still look like myself.

Depending on your doctor's guidance, hormones can have a positive impact on the body and health. I've been using the birth control patches for years now to regulate my hormones (not at all for the birth control aspect) and it has eliminated my issues with PCOS. My periods are also on a regular schedule and my cramping doesn't debilitate me.

Yes and it is very important! It should be one of the first things you'd expect him to say. Even if you don't want to get pregnant (right now or in the future) having a irregular menstrual cycle or none at all is a indicator your overall health isn't good. Even natural training women can lose their menstrual cycle if their calorie intake is too low.
