Very interesting! Paul McCartney has said that he had Ray Charles in mind when he wrote this song. Fits Ray like a glove, of course.

McCartney DID think of Ray Charles when writing this song...this is why he debated to himself if there should be orchestration or not...McCartney pushed to have the album "Get Back" and this would be one of the songs on it. But...music politics hindered McCartney's artistic vision...Allen Klein had Phil Spector add an orchestra on this track without McCartney's permission...this made McCartney say "that's it...i'm out"!

This version arrangement is very interesting with big band, bluesy touch with jazz chords progressions. The vocal presentation is very soulful. Rest in peace Ray Charles. You've left us a pool of tears.

The Beatles original version is still my favorite. Because I heard it as a teenager when it was released. But George Benson version is brilliant. Also, Billy Ocean version is great too. Brother Ray has a great style of his own and adds his own unique style of magic to any song.
