John Lennon's list his favorite Beatles Songs
Спорт
The Beatles are widely considered to be one of the best music bands of all time, if not the best. The Liverpool four were able to fulfill a dream of a generation thanks to the passion of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who enlisted George Harrison and Ringo Starr for an extraordinary project. Each member of the band has their own personal tastes, regardless of the situation. What were John Lennon's top five favorite Beatles songs?

Yeah I think John was self-aware of his reputation to give different answers and sometimes contradict himself. I've heard him joke about it on an interview.
John Lennon was a singer, song writer, and performer. He was not a music critic. Some of the songs he did that he had low, or little regard for are some of my favorites. Songs like: Run For Your Life, And Your Bird Can Sing, and Hey Bulldog. Beatle songs that have a great, tight sound, and great singing parts, great backing vocals. Those are some of my favorites.

When you seem to effortlessly write very good to great song after song, after song, after song, one loses perspective. Any group now would love to have And Your Bird Can Sing or She Said She Said. Even if they had no meaning to John Lennon.
John said that he really liked Here There and Every where which was completely by Paul. Paul said it was the only compliment John ever gave him about one of his songs.

I have heard this before, but I am sure John has complimented many McCartney songs before their split up.There are many interviews and articles where he did. Paul may have meant this is the only compliment he has made about one of his songs since the split up.

While Paul was writing "Hey Jude", the line "the moment you need is on your shoulder", Paul was going to throw it out. John told him that was the best line in the song. They worked well together. John and Paul were honest with each other. If they didn't like something in a song, they told each other. That's why they were brilliant.

@@StephenDoty84 Before Revolver, John's songs were generally better: Ticket to Ride, Help, In My Life, I Feel Fine, This Boy, etc. Paul improved, and on Rubber Soul his and John's were close to equal. From Revolver to early 1969, Paul's songs were better: For No One, Here There and Everywhere, She's Leaving Home, Hey Jude, etc. On Abbey Road, George's two songs were the best.

I grew up with the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Kinks and others. Out of all those I listed, I like the Beatles the best as you never knew what you were going to get with new album that came out. That is not to denigrate the other bands, I loved their music as well. 😀
"Dear Prudence", "Revolution", "Sexy Sadie". John, no list of your best Beatles' songs is complete without these 3 songs, IMO. Come to think of it, Lennon has dozens of songs which can be placed on a list of his best Beatles' songs. The Beatles are simply the best.

@@prschuster It may be their greatest rock song and somehow it has become forgotten to most. I can see why Lennon was getting tired of the Beatles in the late 60's because he was being marginalized. It would drive me crazy to have songs like this treated as nothing while putting out Hello, Goodbye as the big single.
John's wish to redo songs is not unusual. Actors, directors, musicians and artists are extremely critical of their efforts. Thankfully, this perfectionist attitude didn't prevail and we have complete songs to admire.
In My Life...And Your Bird Can Sing...You Won't See Me...While My Guitar Gently Weeps....are among the very best things they did.

Oh hell yes!!
It’s Only Love is one of John’s most beautiful melodies and he hated it simply because of its lyrics because he was on a phase when he was sick of writing love songs.
George Martin recalled having dinner with John and Yoko at the Dakota. John said he’d do all the songs differently if he could do them over. Martin asked “even Strawberry Fields?” And John said “especially Strawberry Fields”.
Being a Beatle fan since the 60s, my top 5 change every year, they made that many good tunes.
John & Paul complemented d each other to produce songs & they are all gems. It's hard to pick the 5 best of the Beatles featuring either in the lead vocals because George & Ringo contributed their parts often overlooked by critics!

Love this
I can understand why he chose these songs as his better ones. They are favorites of mine as well. I've heard him speak before about several of them. He tried so hard to express what he was really feeling in these songs, because he thought that's what true artists do. He didn't want to be just a poppy rock singer putting out lyrics that were only good for carrying a dance tune along. I'm sure that most of his fans understood this or felt it whether they knew it or not. That's why he was so beloved by his audience. Because they felt the same things within themselves and John gave voice to them.
John is my favorite Forever , I wish he was here, but you know in my mind he is forever, his music, his life all so special to me, John forever, Steve

Very nice, short documentary seems accurate. "Help" was a cry for help! "Across the Universe" makes more sense now, than back in 1970❓
When John recorded In My Life in 1965, he told Pete Shotton that the song was about Pete and his other close friend Stuart Sutcliffe who died in '62. He also confided that In My Life is the only song that came his heart. I was surprised that two early songs before Rubber Soul were amongst his favourites. John said in an interview he was sick of writing love songs, but that's what EMI wanted. I can't remember if it was on the Anthology or Compleat Beatles DVD.

interesting topic, ghastly narrative
He was off in 1970 and Jann was a malignant creature. John was still really raw in 1970. He changed his mind about a lot of things. He was very angry during this interview and I don’t put so much stock in it.
In My Life,
There are so many, by just John alone. Tomorrow Never Knows, Rain, Julia, A Day in the Life, Give Peace a Chance. Then post-Beatles classics such as God, Crippled Inside, Jealous Guy, Instant Karma, Imagine. What's humorous is the amount of sanctimonious hypocrites still outraged by the messages from these songs all these years later. Defiance that reverberates through history.
It's kind of amazing how many good songs they had that he didn't even mention classics like She Loves You, In My Life, and A Day In The Life and All You Need As Love
The thing about the Beatles more than any other group is that by listing your top tunes, anyone can get a profile of your personality by the tunes you like or hate due to the extremely varied styles of music put out by the group. Kind of like social media hookup sites only this way is much less time consuming. How much can you tell about that person by checking out their top ten? A lot
Long live the Beatles.
