Rattle Can Bow Build VXR 28

Спорт

Rattle Can Bow Build by Josh Jones Mathews VXR Bow Build - Yep, we are taking the sheen off of a perfectly blacked out VXR and building a custom paint job just because we just like it! Not for everyone, but follow along this bow build and most we really try to answer a lot of our viewers questions throughout this video. There's some good info, some strong opinions, and fun throughout entire process.
If you want to do a custom paint job on your bow, here's a few things to consider: If you have a bow press it's easy. Scrub with dish soap to get the grease and wax off, scuff it to get the dust off it paint it. I wasn't worried about perfection at all, I wanted to make it have very little sheen or shine while hunting. I used Rust-Oleum Camouflage Spray Paint (Army Green and Khaki). Taped off riser, every accessory and applied a few coats. I kept the factory strings on while painting because I was going to replace them with BCY 454 natural strings with green serving.

    I have the 28 and bc of my hunting style it’s suits me better. I also shoot and have a halon 32 for the last few years. I liked it but i was having trouble hunting in ground blinds and some trees. I also like to ground hunt and crawl into cedar trees to hide. My 32 was just alittle to long for those applications, so i shot both the 31.5 and 28 and the 28 is so much quieter and felt like alittle less vibration in the shot.

    Josh your view on people working on their bows at home...what a breath of fresh air to hear someone articulate that so well! Does not down play the skill of the bow shop tech but also does not insult the archer tinkering and learning at home. "The better goal is to make the sport better and the people that are in it better." Good stuff guys!

    When people are asking about “nock tuning” they’re talking about rotating the nock in the shaft until you have good arrow flight. Usually shoot through paper with a bare shaft and rotate until you get a bullet hole. You can also rotate it three different ways with your vanes (trying three different cock vanes) to see what shoots/flys best. You need to start with one arrow to set your bow up correctly and then do the rest. It can be very time consuming and not really a necessity for hunters with high quality arrows but it can help.

  • @jakepeleshuck3701
    @jakepeleshuck37014 жыл бұрын

    I've known nock tuning as rotating the nock when shooting not as a part of the build process. If you have an arrow flying off sometimes rotating the nock to the next fletching can potentially correct that. Awesome video man. Great info! Thanks!

    Just have a few questions awesome video. What type of paint did you use? Did you sand the bow before painting? Does the paint stick well to the rubber dampeners? Would it be a good idea to go over with clear after? Does the paint affect the bearings? Will it come off easily?

  • @ElkShape

    @ElkShape

    4 жыл бұрын

    Tim here but I am going to let Dan answer the paint question. You should definitely scuff up the bow before you paint.. I doubt it will stick well to dampeners.. Clear would be your call, the dull look is more natural.. Tape off the bearings and any internals... It certainly will not come off easy - hope that helps!

    Nock tuning is turning the nock to the next shoot able alignment on an arrow in an attempted to pull in a problem arrow that is not grouping with others as well. This can take a pesky arrow and pull it into the group tighter. Basically your trying to adjust for the actual spine of the arrow if you don't do all the floating arrows and spine aligning.

    @@ElkShape it really depends on shooting 3 or 4 fletch. With 3 yes it would be 120. However if your shooting 4 fletch you get more tuning ability, so its every 90 degrees. One minor plus of shooting a 4 fletch beyond all the other pluses and minuses.

My vane is 5.5 grains compared to the aae vane which was like what? 9.2 grains. My total weight is 22 grains for 4 vanes compared to 3 aae max vanes that weigh 27.6. Invalid argument. Also the more you spin the arrow obviously the more it will slow down at distance which is the original point I tried to make. To each their own. I guess results can differ

    And for the record I am talking about using Archers Advantage to verify spine, arrow length and the affects of what length the arrows are and how it changes the spine. You can get a good idea of what wraps,4 fletch and so on will affect FOC, speed spine and have a solid idea of what arrow will work. Especially if your on the fence between 250 spine verses 300 spine. How will 200 grains up front change the arrow verses 300 up front. Its not necessarily for the tapes was my point for the record. Drawing the bow back and saying cut it here is not the best way. Just my opinion. Speed affects the spine as well. 300 spine can be ideal at 280 fps but not at 305 fps.
