"It's Late" is a song written by Queen guitarist Brian May and performed by the band for their 1977 album News of the World. The song was May's idea of treating a song as a three-act theatrical play, and the verses are called "acts" in the lyrics sheet. It makes use of the tapping technique one year before Eddie Van Halen's use of the tapping technique on the Van Halen album. May told Guitar Player Magazine that his use of the tapping technique was inspired by an unnamed bar-band guitarist from Texas. The song is notable for its length and heavy, wide vocal range (E3-E6), bluesy guitar riff, using the previously mentioned technique.

This is probably my favorite Queen song...if I had to pick just ONE song. Roger Taylor is just SICK on the drums in this song!

Hands down the greatest front man of all time.
Love in the middle how the song gets hauling ass, then they slam on the brakes back down to original tempo. Outstanding!

@@grantbaechler3529 Right and how well he worked with Freddie, etc, to make this such a great recording. And especially when it gets to about the 4 minute mark and then big time at the 5:54 mark when Brian lets loose on a guitar lick solo binge that is one of my favorite rock plays.

@@adammwalch Haha. Best book? Anything Dr Suess had me reading as a kid - but favourite was and always will be "Oh The Places You will Go". Favourite movie - "To Sir With Love", and close second, "Grease". Favourite band .... "Beatles". Queen second and favourite solo artist doesn't have a second. "David Bowie".

This just jumped into my feed and blew me away yet again with the absolute magnificence of it all. One of the greatest songs of all time from the greatest rock band ever. Looking back, so happy to have seen these guys live in the flesh several times including Freddie's last ever at Knebworth...absolutely blessed.
Sorry but there is no description than fucking brilliant. All 4 are masters! Thank you for this. Brian is so concentrated, sophisticated and just damn pretty. Deaky is rockin’ it out and having a blast. Rog nails it every time as usual, hotly sitting back not under the spotlight but mind blowing and Freddie is Freddie. This is and always was my favourite Queen song. I had several before that but when this was released, I was done.

Incredible song -- never got much airplay at all. Balanced display of all band members -- great ending by Roger -- those triplet fills in the ending riff are a nice combination of crescendo and power !!

How great that one of the best rock singers, Freddie Mercury, could do such a brilliant rocking job, singing one of the best guitarist's , Brian May's, rocking songs.

Very bluesy sound to the red special, that fireplace-piece did produced some very special sounds there. very warm and specificly tuned to sound in two different pitch chord sound, simply awe. Great!

News of The World & Boney M's - NightFlight to Venus, were the 1st albums I ever bought, some 40 years ago. Not surprising to find out that 'News of The World' is Queen's best-selling album. A masterpiece. Loved this song. This was the kind of tune that made Queen - Queen. Fantastic job clipping the video together.

Can we talk about Freddie’s 70s voice? There seemed to be no limit to how high it could. There are so many high notes in the studio version, I understand why Freddie couldn’t sing this song the same live after a whole night of singing.
Heard this when the album it was on was first released. Loved it then and still do. This is a song that seems to let the entire group pull out all the stops, from the tremendous intro through FM's extraordinary vocals and cymbal-ic punctuation at the very end. It ought to be illegal not to play this at full volume, so that it can throb from your speakers.

Tuesday November 28, 1978 I saw them at the War Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo,NY and how I know all these little facts is I'm staring at my ticket stub...and crying some tears not because I'm wondering where all that time went just crying happy tears because I was there!!!

Freddie didn't like singing this song live because it was a hard song to sing, hitting alot of high notes, but there is a Queen live video..just keep searching and you'll find it..

Queen tiene demasiadas canciones excelentes, algunas tendrían que quedarse fuera de la lista, como bring back, who needs you, march of the black queen y me sobran ejemplos
And Rick Derringer too was doin' tapping back in the day.Hendrix mentioned it somewhere at sometime.This is a great tune.
Great tune, long known before "Observe and Report", though using that song proves the longevity of real Rock and Roll. Amazing footage, I think at least 6 different venues melded into one video seen here...great job!
