This was the first song my brother Dan learned to play on a guitar. He died three days ago. He could play absolutely anything Brian May could play as well as anything Freddie could on a his baby grand piano. I will greatly miss my brother.

I cry at some point nearly every day thinking about that great man. Today I wore shorts in honor of my brother. He always wore shorts to Christmas get together no matter what Missouri's weather was on our gathering day. My sons wore shorts to his funeral. He died on the exact day and time the great Chet Atkins day. Knowing him it was the exact time as well. Let that be pondered. His wife died 1 1/2 months later after the doctor told them together exactly what would now transpire. Atlas could no longer hold the Earth up any longer. We were River partners we did everything together we caught big ass Small Mouth and slept in gravel bars together for days at a time fishing and also staying up all night long listening to e everything zquuen and Smile e er produced and bootlegs too.

My big brother Steve introduced our whole family to Queen, he would have been 61 on 1/5/‘23 (he died a couple of weeks after his 58th birthday) I always loved his playing of this album & tbh any Queen album, anything up to & including News of The World would be cranked up to 11 (or maybe even 12). I didn’t go to his funeral. I wanted to remember him in his late teens when he was so full of life & as he said himself “I’m a lover not a fighter!” if you knew Steve you know what I mean. he was Steve to us but to his mates he was Jacko! he even had it tattooed on the back of his neck fgs! anyway Steve, this one’s for you “Big Bad Steve!” 🥰

Aryan Jain, i think as someone who loves and comprehends the intricacies of my favorite era of music (1966-1980) ones ability to listen to a band, hear the song as whole and at the same time be able to separate each individual instrument and vocal is the difference between people who "just like the song" and those that "get it" referring to music lovers who actually realize how much work and practice goes in to getting those sounds that move us. the bass and drums are the foundation of of my favorite music. the guitar solos, keyboards, sax solos and vocals are icing on the cake for most bands, but deep down inside it's the bass and drums that keep your foot tappin' or your head bobbin' to the tune. i'm not preaching, this is jmo.cheers from canada!
@aryan5695
5 жыл бұрын
@@jeffcampbell668 Yes, exactly! I totally get what you're saying, and completely agree. I'm talking about "those" people. People seem to assume bass is "easy" and don't give it much importance. Not saying everything else isn't as important, though.

Like great jazz it took me a while to appreciate this, but I'm now convinced that these three tracks together are the finest, most technically complex and thematically varied piece of music Queen has ever written. Just listen to Brian May's mesmerising guitar work on both Tenement Funster and Flick of the Wrist. Incredibly powerful. His work on Flick of the Wrist sounds almost random and meandering, but it ties the whole stretch of music together wonderfully. And then there's the beautiful and soothing Lily of the Valley to tie it up. Just sublime from start to finish.

THIS, and the 1st 3 albums is what I think of when I think of Queen. When they were a rock band, a prog rock band. Sure the moment Killer Queen became a single, and the other members saw money pouring in for Freddie, that changed everything. And to me, pretty much everything up through Day at the Races, was pure gold. And yes, NOTW, and Jazz had moments...and all the other albums had bright spots, but it's hard to hit this level of brilliance repeatedly.

Such a great medley as this, stands on the segues of its three songs. You need that angry, aching beauty of that singular "feedback" note on May's guitar from Flick of the Wrist to properly introduce Lily of the Valley. Hard to imagine it without it. By the way, probably the most effective use of "feedback" sound (it mimics a feedback) on a rock album.

Aryan Jain, i think as someone who loves and comprehends the intricacies of my favorite era of music (1966-1980) ones ability to listen to a band, hear the song as whole and at the same time be able to separate each individual instrument and vocal is the difference between people who "just like the song" and those that "get it" referring to music lovers who actually realize how much work and practice goes in to getting those sounds that move us. the bass and drums are the foundation of of my favorite music. the guitar solos, keyboards, sax solos and vocals are icing on the cake for most bands, but deep down inside it's the bass and drums that keep your foot tappin' or your head bobbin' to the tune. i'm not preaching, this is jmo.cheers from canada!

the amount of bad bitch energy that Flick Of The Wrist has is insane
Just Brian May his guitar sounds makes all my hair rise.

OMG THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE MY HEART HAS BEEN RESTORED.
The best album segue in the history of rock. Sheer Heart Attack was the first album I ever bought at the age of 15. I loved Freddie in his androgynous heyday and listening to this helped me get over being dumped after one date by my first love.
This may be my favorite medley in rock music. And that includes the Beatles who did some great medleys, but Queen didn't take a back seat to them in terms of medleys.

Best EP in my vinyl collection.
The best band in music. Total perfection 🥰
It’s just a perfect album I’ve loved this since I was 10, I’m now 52!
This beats anything else that came out in '74 and it had illustrious company ! A great time to be ten years old ! My parents screwed up a lot of things but encouraging me to listen to whatever I wanted to wasn't one of them !
The seamless interplay with Freddie's voice (and the others) and how they effortlessly change from a voice to a guitar ...brilliant. This was my first hearing of Queen. Got it for Christmas 1974 and was hooked, stunned, amazed.
The best music of all times
One of my favorites
Timeless!! Still rate this as the best Queen album. Just amazing from beginning to end.
The absolute best band in the world ❤
This medley is so everything I could ever ask for. Simply Queen, simply brilliant, simply sublime. The cool, simple, nostalgic track by Roger is way underrated. Flick of the wrist is a classic, can't go wrong there. The song showcases Freddie at his nastiest. Lilly of the valley is a testament to the existing softer side of Freddie's thoughts on love.

Mercury was Zoroastrian. If you want to understand Lily of the Valley, you need that knowledge. BTW, Ahura Mazda has returned.... Edit to add: I am overjoyed to see younger people enjoying this beautiful music. As another commenter stated, Meravigliose!!!!

my favorite vibes from this awesome band. Started by Roger and continued by Freddie on vocals, but what a masterpiece with the phrasings of Brian and John. A true work of classic rock. And finally, this Lilly of the valley to make you cry. Awesome!!!! I'll never grow tired!

I love Queen. I'd say they are musical excellence. Simon and Garfunkel are musical perfection. Their songs are ethereal.
Beautiful combination
This was the album that had just come out when I first saw them in concert. It was amazing!
its a year now , i hope some of the pain has changed to great memories now ! Tenement Funster/ Shear Heart Attack still my Fav queen Lp ! "in my purple shoes" ;)

Well, this album is the BEST...amen.
