    Brovo! Its wonderful to give into your community. Dont be afraid to break up a set if there is one stamp you use all the time and dont use any of the others in the set.

    My problem has been justifying to myself the value in spending a pricey amount for a SINGLE stamp from a set, even if I’ve made a game plan or 3 for that one and only. ☹️

    I never could remember what stamps I used and sent to which people. Kind of along the lines of sticky notes, I now put scrap card stock in each stamp/die sleeve. When I use that stamp for say a birthday, I write on the card stock “Ann birthday Feb. 2020 - gnome stamp” or “Anderson anniversary May 2021 - gold embossed floral”. Then I know not to use same stamp for that person.

    I photograph all of my makes. Generally I can tell by what is in the picture to whom I gave the card or whatever item I have made (date helps too), but now I am going to add the name of the recipients in #tags.This is a great suggestion. Thanks. Bonus? I will now be able to pull up all the gifts I’ve made for one person. I think a gift timeline will prove useful.

    I actually do that all over my house... I'll go through a closet or a dresser or a cabinet and pull things that I haven't used in a while. I box them up and they go in the garage. (I make a list on the outside of the box of what's in it, just in case I really do need something later). I give it roughly 6 months and if I haven't touched the box, it goes straight to donation without even being opened. (I know myself... and if I open that box most of it will come right back in the house 🤣)

    I have been purging my house for months. I do a small area at a time. Took ideas from minimalist. What I learned to keep from getting overwhelmed is, don't jump from one area to another without finishing 1st area . I had 3 boxes 1. Keep 2. Donate( or sell) 3. I'll think about it. I put that box aside for a month or two. With a lid. So, durring the wait to donate period and did not take anything out to use, I donated it without opening the top. Sounds difficult. But it was easy and liberating. It's been 8 months since I did that. I can honestly say, I don't miss anything. Especially since I don't remember what was in the box. This worked best in my kitchen. I had a lot of stuff I barely used. My craft area is still a work in progress. I tossed broken or unusable things. Donated( I have a local non profit craft thrift store )duplicates, things I forgot I had, things I bought because I wanted to try, but didn't or didn't like. I also took things out of packaging. Easier to use things that are " open". I discovered crafting almost 30 years ago after my son was born. Have a lot of stuff.

    @@inkhillrevival289 me too. She said something that helped me with the sentimental aspect of letting things go. If you are not using it. And no one else in my life wants it. Let it go so someone else can enjoy it. That got me to let go dishes I got as a wedding gift 32 years ago. Barely used them because hand wash only and cannot use in the microwave. Also, the putting aside to sell, chances are you are not going to sell. Donate, it goes to something that needs it. I don't want to be a minimalist. I just wanted to be OK with less clutter. And it's been working so far. Husband is returning in 1.5 years. We do want to move and down size. So, its easier to slowly purge. Less daunting. We've moved a few times because of the military. I don't want to move for the last time, hopefully, without moving " Stuff" we don't use or need.

    I like the sticky note idea. I think I would put the date on it so that the next time I come back to it, if it hasn't been used, then maybe it's time to say, "Buh Bye." Also, there's no rule that says you have to purge an entire set. Say there are 10 stamps in a package, and you know you won't ever use 5 of them...put them in your purge box and keep the rest. For organization sake, you may want to combine partial sets that seem to belong together, but not necessarily.

    @@bunnylands916 You can buy stamps and dies and other tools on EBAY and Etsy. You might also try Instagram now that they permit direct sales on the platform. I have had good luck with EBAY. I’ve also seen craft listings on Mercari too, but I’ve never made a purchase there. I always make sure I know the original price so I know whether it’s a good deal or not. I also check prices against manufacturer sales. Some companies like Spellbinders and Sizzix have really good sales that beat prices in the secondary markets. I found a couple of destashing groups on Facebook but again I have no experience with sales there. I joined one. I will see how it goes. One good aspect of these groups is that you can share the items you are looking for with other members.

Also ellenhutson.com has a year round clearance section and sometimes like today and tomorrow, their clearance section is marked down even more (60% off the discounted price 😱) But I think a huge thing to watch out for when deal shopping is making sure to just buy what you really, really like even with such great price points. I need to go through my stamps and let go of the ones that just aren’t my style any more. Once you have fewer stamps sets it’s more likely that you will use those ones that you described as loving but hardly ever using (if you do really love them). When you said “it doesn’t have to be all or nothing” it made me think, though, what about those sets where you only like and one sentiment, but never use the rest of the set. I get frustrated by keeping 10 stamps just for the sake of the 1 I use constantly. But I don’t think it’s crafter-culturally acceptable to sell partial or incomplete sets.

  • @inkhillrevival289

    @inkhillrevival289

    3 жыл бұрын

    Totally, with less I agree we’ll end up using what’s left (and loved) more. So many people commented on this video about not being afraid to break up sets. So I’m doing it 😂 If I absolutely love a certain stamp, for sure I’m going to keep it but in that case what’s the point of keeping the rest to never use. Even if you don’t sell it and just pass it on then the other portions will actually get used. If I’m lukewarm on the one stamp, I’d probably let go of the set as a whole so someone else could buy/use it. I think that’s my plan moving forward.
