Turn your SCRAP MESS into CREATIVE GOLD with this...

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What if cardmaking scraps and leftovers could change from messy piles and overstuffed drawers into pure creative gold? Wouldn't it be amazing if you could easily find the perfect bulk-made background, extra die cut, or already colored image to use on your current project?
I'm totally fed up with my messy scrap drawer. Scraps and leftovers keep piling on in but they never seem to leave. I think it's time to reinvent the way we store and use our scraps!

Maybe I need to lighten my scrap load to even begin organizing.....and start with permitting myself to not keep the smallest pieces I would not regularly use...I love your videos. They are so much more inspiring than just a technique. Thank you for putting some of my thoughts into words and make them real and doable.

Have just found you, and so glad I did. I just make cards, and so many videos involve more than card making, so a lot of their tips and suggestions don't concern me. So your videos - mostly the entire video affects me. I really appreciate that you focus on card making. Thank you for that. P.S. Really enjoying your destashing and decluttering information.

I'm 60 and never collected any kind of trading cards until now, but thanks to my new interest in K-Pop, I had to find some way to store those photocards, postcards, and small posters of my "idols" that come with the CD albums. I have binders with 9-pocket and 2-pocket plastic storage pages, as well as 8 1/2 by 11 page protectors. I was sorting through left-over die cuts that just ended up thrown into random boxes of supplies that needed to be organized(some samples I had made just to try out new dies, some left from projects) and I realized that I could use pockets in a binder so that I could flip through the pages to find things to use. Something as large as an A2 sized background can fit in the 2 pocket page and the whole page pockets work well for things like the elaborate large frame I die-cut for a project and then changed my mind about which color to use. The little pockets in the 9 pocket page work great for small sentiments, stamped and die-cut little images, small tags, etc. Now I can flip through my binder and see what I have, and the pages/pockets keep the die-cuts from being damaged. Every time I flip through the binder, just seeing all the things in there help me remember what I have so that the next time I'm crafting I might think of something from there that I can use.

Wow! Best video I’ve seen on the topic! Your rules about the scraps are as helpful as your categories! I plan to watch again with a notepad as I won’t remember them. I have 6-8 collections of scraps in scrapbook boxes I used but never cleaned out! I’m sure I will also find stamps, many other usable items I forgot about. I love using flower dies but cutting out tiny flowers with dies is tedious, so I have collected some small flower punches and plan to use the small scraps to punch out flowers while watching TV, anything too small for that gets tossed, same for wrong color. I will die cut bigger flowers when needed. Thanks again for the great info!

I like your storage idea for the bits and pieces. I have stored mine in a Michael’s 12”x12” scrapbook storage bin. And let me tell you it is way too crowded and hard to find what your looking for. For my scrap papers I use a scrapbook. Each page has a different colour and I stand it upright and it fans out showing the awesome colours. For the extra paper that I use for my Cricut I use my punches and get all the extra paper that would normally go into the garbage. I typically use my flower punches. And now with your idea they will be easier to locate when needed. Thank you for sharing!

I had thought to put my raw scraps into a color coded expandable 30 day file (see on A’zon), but I can see why Kari’s VISIBLE system would have advantages. The larger scraps I may still go w/ the file. As for extra “cuts”, I’ve started keeping those in THIN or THICK DVD CASES, w/ a photocopy of my 1st efforts of that project. (I can SOOOO kill a WEEK “creating” a variation of something I’ve seen on y.t. !!!). This helps me get in gear if I can see / remember mistakes and successes from a PREVIOUS effort! (As I haven’t been doing this for long, I’m still going through the gamut of b’day, ann’y, grad, etc., kind of cards, but I would think that TOO MANY small cuts in the bottom of a baggy might give those pieces a chance to curl or get their edges bent. In Kari’s case it looks to be an unfounded concern as her scrap stash is well managed!!)

I have a binder with pocket pages that I use to keep track of my purchased die cut inventory (for the tax man, ugh, stupid cost of goods sold!). I started storing my extra die cut words, stamped and cut images, and sentiment pieces in there too. I don’t worry too much about organizing inside the binder because seeing things randomly together does sometimes spark new ideas. I have a couple of different solutions for cardstock and patterned paper scraps. I actively try to use up lots of scraps right away even if it’s by punching a bunch of hearts out of the smaller pieces.

@@ArtyAntics Absolutely SO very cool!!! And in that vein, I’ve been thinking that various thickness dvd cases will be the ideal storage for my needs as well. I have only my kitchen counter on which to craft and, except for just enough space for a Big Shot, a laminator, and a Brother Design ’n’ Cut, that leaves me just enough room for a couple of bookcases to hold these dvd cases. The larger contraptions hide in a cupboard, and I’m planning on disguising the cases behind false fronts that look like books. Wish me luck!!!

This 8s a great idea 💡I found when I finally started using my Totally Tiffany ScrapMaster Folders (not the ScrapRack), I use my scraps soooo easily! I'm also not reaching for a new sheet of paper first 😃 now my 1st thought is "what paper do I have in my Folders?". Bcuz those scraps are the perfect size for the Diamond Press Marquise. For some reason, it also helps me throw away the scraps that are just too small. I think the pockets in the folder help me visualize that the scrap is too small or a scrap from a die cut will catch on the rest of the paper and make my nice organized scrap folder all junky 🤣 whatever it is, it's working. Yes, the folders are pricey. But for me, it was worth it and works. Even that 12x12 paper that only has a small corner cut out of it fits in these folders 😃 all sizes in each color are together with easy access 🎉
