I traveled to Jamaica where I didn’t have data and I was so thankful that U2’s album was halfway downloaded on my iPhone. It allowed me to have some amount of music for the 2 week trip. Unfortunately it was only like 3 songs. I got to know them more intimately than my fiancé. The experience was 3/5. Would do again.

It was refreshing watching something on this subject matter without it turning into a Kanye retrospective! KISS also did something where they donated and mixed each member's blood with printing ink for a promotional comic book with Marvel!

one of my favourite album rollouts was for year zero by nine inch nails. they had usb drives in toilet stalls, dozens of websites, secret performances and a shit ton of other stuff building on the albums themes in an extremely fascinating way.

This U2 record has left some scars on my soul.... And when the media outlets were reporting, that it was worse than spam, they were being nice tbh. This album was worse than getting hit by a car for free.

In my opinion getting hit by a car should stay free. It really shouldn't be about the money but purely about the joy and satisfaction of hitting somebody with your car.

In regards to the U2 thing, I remember I actually liked the album in the end but it was annoying because of the way that a lot of people listened to music at the time right before streaming. Shuffling your music was pretty new when iTunes came out, it was a huge selling point being able to hit a button and then have iTunes able to play your full library of music you love back to you, you didn't even need to make a playlist you just had a radio of songs you and your family think are great, so all of a sudden you have U2 with a pretty longwinded and basic soft rock album. My dad was a big music collector so my iTunes library was huge and not always consistent but if you were someone who didn't have hundreds of albums already loaded up then you'd probably be needing to skip that album constantly.

The statues in Milan and Johannesburg are both still standing afaik and the one that was originally used for the album cover has been put back up somewhat recently in Vegas

I’m pretty sure the “perniciousness” was in reference to when they MSCHF made Jesus shoes with drake that had some holy water in them and Nike was fine with it but I guess Nas’s shoes weren’t holy enough or something.

My favorite publicly stunt is Lady Gaga releasing the Judas music video on Easter Sunday. An absolute power move that solidified Born This Way in the zeitgeist of the 2010s but it did effect her career quite negatively but she was insane for that and I support it.

I honestly liked getting that album cuz my parents wouldn’t let me download anything but Christian music so I was really happy it was on there cuz it gave me music to listen to other than glorified hymns

At the time I thought I was the only one who had the U2 album on my phone, I didn't know it was a thing. Honestly thought I was cursed or something. By the time I gave up on trying to remove it and wanted to actually have a listen it wouldn't let me for some reason. It felt so cathartic when I first heard someone mention it as a thing some people collectively went through. What a time 😩

I remember the Lady Gaga publicity stunt too, but I was told a slightly different story. I was told by my mom that it was a statement on men not seeing her as a piece of meat, and my mom thought it was confusing and gross (especially since she was vegetarian at the time). Knowing the full story actually makes me appreciate it more. Lady Gaga is one of the very few pop artists I actually respect. Also, my mom was a big U2 fan and played the whole album that was released in the car. It was okay, I prefer their older stuff leading up to it.

The Pitbull thing seemed to work out in the end cause it was him looking out for a section of the US that maybe felt invisble

Only person I know who was genuinely happy about the U2 album thing was my best friends alcoholic dad who was obsessed with them already lol I remember distinctly every Friday night we'd be playing Halo in my friend's room and around 9:30pm we'd hear him start playing the album at the backyard table where he could be found sipping from a bottle of wild turkey lmao

I remember liking California there is no end to love when I eventually gave it a listen but I despise the fact it was on my phone

Xmas 2021 my sister was playing her music. The U2 album came on and she said she’s never been able to delete. I just pressed delete and she was amazed she would never have to hear it again.

Went on a trip to Miami back in 2015. Didn’t have any music on my iPhone, so the U2 album became the soundtrack of my stay. All I listened to, essentially. California quickly turned into my favorite song all throughout those 2 weeks at the beach. An “accident” gone right, if I do say so myself!

THE U2 ALBUM!! I completely forgot. I had a similar reaction. I'd never heard them before, but I remember just being told by everything around me that I wasn't supposed to like it, so I didn't end up listening to it. To be fair I was like 15 or something at the time. It is funny and sad to know that they were just wanting their music to be heard. That must've been an interesting time for everyone involved
