One of my favorite artists is Gotye, whose career ended because of being boxed as a one-hit wonder, which he is. However, his music is fucking amazing, he's a genius, and he literally won the best alternative album Grammy at same year as Somebody That I Used To Know, well deserved, AGAINST Björk and Fiona Apple. But I guess it just boils down to the good old stereotype of mainstream vs alternative.

If you are interested in one hit wonders I would highly recommend Todd in the Shadows because he doesn't just review the obvious one hit wonders but ones that are fairly interesting for American people because I knew a few of the One Hit Wonders because they are popular outside of the US, for eg Midnight Oil only had one hit in the US called Beds are Burning, but in Australia they are very popular. With almost every album in the 80's having a hit song chart in the Australian music charts. And then another really interesting one is The Crazy World of Arthur Brown(basically a pioneer of prog rock and shock rock and he is a big influence on rock overall, but his music is certainly definitely more on the experimental side and he has even released an album this year and since the late 60's he has been making his own music). Also a few other notable one hit wonders for the US are Yello(a Swiss electro industrial ambient trio), and Bobby McFerrin(an actual Jazz musician beyond his one hit) and those are just the ones his One Hit Wonderland series introduced me to as a whole but that's mainly because I like the weird artists that only had One Hit because the reason they didn't care about their hit that much and just created their music as normal even after the hit.
