Ok I'm so glad people in the comments are listing slightly older covers because I love No Doubt's cover of "It's My Life" (which I did not know was a cover for the longest time) and Nirvana did a spectacular job with "The Man Who Sold the World"

In my opinion, one of the greatest covers of all time is Istanbul by They Might Be Giants. The original song is fairly old and obscure, but those guys made it iconic by jazzing it up to the max.

TBH I think Rain Paris's rock cover of Psychofreak is better than the original. I love Rain Paris's covers, but usually I wouldn't necessarily say they're better. Except for Psychofreak. That, I can say with confidence, is better than the original. It just suits the mood of the song more.

All Star by Smash Mouth, probably one of the most famous covers in history at this point in time. Also people hated the Imagine video because it came out at the height of Covid and lockdowns (at least US-wise), so it came across as insulting and incredibly tone deaf that a bunch of celebrities with a million things to do in their multimillion dollar mansions were singing this song of “hope” for everyone to unite and be strong through Covid when they don’t have to worry about shit. Surprised you never heard about it given it was basically all over KZread about how crap it was.
