These delays are far too small. I doubt they could've made any real changes in just a few days. So it's the devs fault for not preparing. A month or two delay would've worked out. Even if they finish early. That extra time could've helped polish it even more if they seemed it.

honestly i think that wildcard is getting way more hate than they deserve considering the fact that the majority of people that send hate their way are people that have over 100 hours into ark and the fact that out of all the shady anti consumer shit going on in the gaming industry rn wildcard is doing a pretty damn good job not jumping on the microtransaction bandwagon as well as providing dlc that actually adds many more hours of gameplay and content vs dlc that does absolutely nothing to improve or add to the game as for atlas specifically yea it has a bunch of issues that need to get fixed asap and im sure over time those issues will get fixed but im also sure peopel will still force themselves to hate it by considering it to be just a reskinned ark and personally as true as that may be i dont actually see the problem with that i mean so many other game series do the same thing if not worse yet those games dont receive any hate for it so clearly the hate towards wildcard is biased because when they do somethign that has been being since video games were a thing but only wildcard gets a bandwagon of outrage for it there is no denying that that outrage has only happened due to bias and mob mentality

Yeah, they should learn from Doctor Scott, who was infamous for overestimating how long it would take to do things because A, he usually was given less time than he estimated, and B, real-life estimates for timelines, budgets, etc are usually done conservatively to account for emergencies and imprecision.

The trailers actually looks good though, sure it looks like Ark, of course, but the graphics and gameplay in the trailers is far different than anything experienced in the game currently. Heard? Ark players knew about this Atlas game since the summer but it was just a rumor then and people thought it was going to be an official total conversion, not a new game. Obviously it's a whole new game that ISN'T developed by Wildcard(ark's studio), just some developers that got the rights to their UE4 assets which is pretty easy as long as it won't be a copy paste in all aspects.

Well @ImAnderZEL, remember that ARK has consistently been in STEAMS top 10 list since it's EA launch, despite never hitting a release date and some fairly boneheaded mistakes by the development team. It'll be interesting to see if Atlas follows the same pattern. The art style is the same, however I didn't see any direct asset flips except for perhaps some of the vegetation/landscape features. All of the creatures are different, the oceans are drastically different, ships don't exist in ARK, etc. Early mechanics, animations, etc. were likely tested in an ARK development build @Charr Churl... which makes sense considering many of the underlying mechanics are the same between the two franchises. Essentially Atlas is just a Pirate/Fantasy version of ARK, and really hasn't been expected to be anything but that. Half of ARKs development team is heading up the Atlas development team, and Grapeshot Games is the sister company to Wildcard games.

I am NOT going to defend this Bullshit company and what they did here, BUT I have to say this: The Original Devil May Cry was actually going to be another Resident Evil Game, starring Leon Kennedy. During Development though it slowly turned from a survival Horror into an Action Game and in the end they replaced Leon with Dante and thus Devil may Cry was born. You can still see the Resident evil influence tough in the fixed Camera angles, the Resident Evil Style "Puzzles" etc. Same goes for Onimusha. It was supposed to be a Resident Evil Game set in the past (not sure if it was always meant to play middle age Japan or in middle age Europe) but turned out so different they made a new Franchise out of it. What I am trying to say: It COULD have been that Atlas was originally intended to be a DLC for Ark, but during the development the Developers saw much more in it and tried to make an actual full game out of it! Things like this happen, the only noteworthy thing here is that they fucked it up. So I am not going to blame them for making the Oceans DLC to the full game Atlas, But i blame them for not even trying to give it it's own flavour and just asset flip everything and think "this is different enough

Except with Devil May-Cry Capcom was actually attempting to innovate on what they had, and make a more action based game. When they realized it had become unrecognizable as a Resident Evil game, they made it it's own thing. It was one of several attempts at making Resident Evil 4. Atlas isn't even that.

The Resident Evil "influence" wasn't so much that as it was that they had to use the latest Resident Evil engine. They didn't have the tools or time to do much outside incorporating a cool combat system, collidable modeled environments and hacking in a live camera.

@@live4aces Would be great but highly unlikely that all platforms would implement a system like this. But for PC users it's obvious. Steam is extremely popular, very convenient, and has the largest marketplace for games. If steam ever did set a standard for early access titles it would at least force developers to steadily update their games or find another market to sell their game. Until then we will continue to see the never ending flood of early access titles that are nothing more than a demo at best.

PS4 exclusives have been a small island of hope in an ocean of sharks. no dirty micro transactions bleeding ppl to death, no withholding content at launch, no early access bullshit. Just full good games like GOTY God of War, Spiderman, Nioh, Horizon zero dawn, Detroit become human, Bloodbourn. I really hope they don't fall into the shitshow that is steam games launch states. Fact is i'm not even a fan of Sony's, I'm PC PS4 this gen, 360 last gen, PC PS2 Gamecube before that & PS1 before that, I get whatever performs best for that generation and apart from the mid years of PS2 the PS4 has had the cleanest no offensive 1st party releases. PC games wont get better if we defend & support the shitty releases we've been getting.

S I I bailed as soon as I found that the resolution and frame rates were horrific for base PS4. 720p at 15fps. Fuck that. Base Xbox One and Switch aren’t much better, with the latter dropping to 170p. Just incompetence on all fronts.

Atlas is a good game, though. Just don't play official servers. THey always suck. The game is fine. And we already k new it flipped assets. It was obvious from the first trailer. Anyone who thought otherwise is being disingenuous. But it's still fun and has unique mechanics, many new creatures, etc.

I'm not surprised in the friggin' slightest. My sister is a sap for games where you tame and collect monsters and animals, and bought Ark when it first released for Xbox 1 and forced me to play literally hundreds of hours of this gosh forsaken game with her. At first I was patient, I saw all of the bugs, and even though they were bigger and more numerous than even the glitchiest of Bethesda, EA, or Ubisoft games I let it slide thinking "they'll fix them, they're a small company, it'll just take a while." And my sister kept up to date with the news and with each passing update, *THE GAME BECAME GLITCHIER* they kept adding new dinos or more maps, but none of even the least of glitches were fixed all the while they continued to promise to release patches, each patch seemingly adding 2 glitches for every one they somewhat kinda sorta fixed, but they were always sure to release more maps and dlc, they got money from those. Quickly I began to see the sham and poor excuse of a game company that they were. I quickly began to resent the game, but only played it because for some unholy reason I couldn't fathom my sister binged on the game, trying to convince herself that the game was good and that the developers would _eventually_ fix the bugs and properly fine tune the game's very unexcusably bad systems and mechanics. She. Bought. Every. DLC. She only recently began to understand that when I said "I derive no enjoyment out of this sad excuse of a game" I meant it. I have hundreds of hours of my life wasted away between most of the dlcs (thank goodness she's stopped pestering me to play with her by the time the last dlc came out) but she herself has probably double the hours I have in the game with how much she's played the game since I cut myself off completely from it since about last year. She said they they kept promising that the game would be completed, that the bugs would be fixed, that the system would be streamlined (why she believed their empty promises is beyond me) but then they announced this game, which we knowing each animation and game mechanic of ARK by heart, recognized it immediately as an ARK reskin. She finally saw that the company was nothing but a group of low lives who would sell their grand ma for a crisp new 5$ bill. She's finally let go of her last ties to the game (she had been waning in the last year, but now she knows what I knew for years about what this company is all about) Do not buy this game, nor Ark either. Ark is by far the worst, least enjoyable experience I've ever had the displeasure of going through. If I made a list of top 10 worst games of all time, this game Ark: Survival Evolved would be number 1; because at least Action 52, Send in Jimmy, Superman 64, Big Rigs, Conquest of the Planet Earth, and others got the sales and attention they deserved. They were so bad they're good experiences that amounted to nothing but being on worst games of all time lists, Ark is just so bad it's bad and managed to swindle people out of so much money. This is coming from a guy who LOVES bad games (I collect them and get so many laughs out of them) I found this game fun for about 1 week and then it was downhill from there. I would play the top 100 worst games of all time to completion before picking this game up again. I know for a fact I'll get some amusement out of most of them, there is no enjoyment in Ark besides laughing at it with your friends (but the same can be said for all the worst of anything) If you like Ark, nothing against you, even The Room and Birdemic has its fans, but it's honestly the worst game I've ever seen get so much success. Hopefully the company will go bankrupt and people with realize there's a standard that gamers have.

Art C. I first started playing ARK months after the game released, and i loved it. I played on a non dedicated server with a bunch of my friends and it was great. (We managed to try and ignore the host-tether distance after a while) We moved on to buying the Scorched Earth DLC and I eventually began to host servers for us. During this time i began to see the constant glitches and horrible textures, but i kept quiet. We moved on to the Ragnorok map, which was thankfully free, and i started to get tired of the game. The map was released and it wasn’t even finished. About 1/4 of the map was unable to be accessed because it was blocked off by an invisible barrier. Somehow i convinced myself to purchase Aberration, the 2nd DLC. At this point i still enjoyed playing the game, but i got annoyed with how glitches were so frequent. Luckily, I didn’t waste much of my time playing on that map and i moved on to other games. Just recently the “final DLC” for ARK was released. I thought, “oh hey, the other maps weren’t exactly the greatest, so I’ll give them another chance.” I bought the DLC a few hours after it came out and had the idea of starting another server on it with my friends. Long story short, I didn’t. The console release for Extinction (We played on console only) was horrible. Everything looked like it was constructed out of play-doh by a three year old. Half of the gameplay mechanics didn’t even work. Bolas would just phase through raptors and other small dinos. This is when i realized everything. The developers haven’t fixed any of the glitches that were around at the start of the game. Meshing was still relevant in all official servers, most arrows or projectiles would not register hitting a target, and there was this one glitch where your character’s feet was literally inside of the floor, making you slower. I usually don’t comment on a lot of videos, but i decided to post this here because i found our stories similar. Needless to say, my friends also realized how terrible the game is, and we moved on to much better games like Red Dead 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Ark is a very fun game, I've had counties amazing experiences playing on multiplayer servers many times over putting over 200+ hours into it. But this is around early last year. And since then I will agree it has gone hill. They assume if they add new content it will make up for the bugs. It does not it makes more bugs so it slowly spirals into what it is now. A mess, playable but truly a mess. I don't know when you started playing but it used to be a truly amazing game.

But when the umpteenth patch and/or update came out and certain basic features still didn't work, I quickly lost interest. Then having put in upwards of 200+ hours into the game I began to resent it. (I mean, how hard is it to make a crafting mechanic that doesn't reverse the object you're trying to place down at the last moment you press the build button, or maybe pet dinosaurs that can actually follow you without getting stuck on pebbles; goodness knows that they don't get stuck as often when they're your enemies. Or how about fixing the bug that DELETES ALL OF YOUR DINOS AND BUILDINGS AND EQUIPMENT AT RANDOM WHEN YOU LOAD YOUR GAME! Four times that's happened to me. _four!_ and the last time was just with their last dlc before extinction, the first time happening before their first dlc, so they've had more than enough time to fix it. )

Look, ARK got pretty bad scores acros the board, but ARK players still love it, because despite its shortcomings it's still great value and great fun. Atlas may be built on top of ARK, the studio doesn't have the greatest developers, so hiding reused engine is hard for them (ARK's executable is still called "ShooterGame.exe" ffs). However, it's still a very different game, it's like a very very big expansion on top of total conversion on top of somewhat changed engine (I don't think stock ARK would be able to handle as many players even as badly as Atlas did). Remember the story about Fallout 76 reusing updated Morrowind engine? How many games were there by Bethesda that did that? Should they have called Skyrim an Oblivion DLC? I don't think so. And even then, there's a FIFA game out every year, you thing each and every one of them is brand new product built from scratch? What about Sims with billions of DLC and no season passes? What about Total War games? They're pretty much reskins/rebalances of the same concept. I'm sure some people would have a great time with Atlas with hundreds of hours played despite all the bad reviews. I'm sure people just leave those because it isn't as good as some $60 titles, despite having loads more content. And I've spent on ARK even less than on Overwatch, provided I waited for sales to buy it and its DLCs. It's like if there's a shiny polished kitch knife with ivory handle and all that, people like it and leave great reviews on it, except they don't use it, they use a plastic chinese multitool that can cut whatever in whichever shape in a few clicks, except it works unreliably and the shapes aren't that precise and it looks terrible, so they hide it in their kitchen cabinet and tell everyone it's crap and keep the knife where it's visible, but the effort of using that amazing knife is just not worth it, so when they need something cut they take out the horrible plastic mess.

IcedLance Bethestda rewrote major parts of theie engine from morrowind to oblivion. From obligion to skyrim. And from Skyrim to Fallout 4. This much is obvious looking at the difference in the games and how they run, how they look and gameplay mechanics changing. Atlas has none of that. The engine is *the same*. No rewriting, no changes no effort, just the same. So it doesn’t help that ARK’s engine was shit to begin with and never properly fixed before they pushed DLC’s and release. And now they want to create a new standalone game from the exact same game and engine? Wow.

There is a bug thats been in the game since near launch where you can randomly crash 20% of the time when entering a boss arena. So you can breed dinos for 3 weeks, grinding materials and ammo the whole time, schedule a team meet up on the weekend when everyone has time, organize a boss fight, plan everything out. .. . . and your fucking game crashes and everything dies. If i was making a game I wouldn't let anything happen until this bug was fixed. What the hell have they been doing these last few years?

The same thing happened with Mighty No.9 and it was, as well, completely crap. 2018 has yet to end and many video game companies has seen their reputation down in the drain.

Are we doomed to never have a good pirate game?! I mean black flag was pretty close, but it wasn't really a pirate game.

God damn once total biscuit died everything went to shit. We need him back. That guy was a living review god.

I'm now starting to question Early Access as a whole. The main reason companies can't be sued for false advertising is because they hide behind the Early Access tag but does it even have the ability to protect them under law or do we just _think_ that? Can I sell a partially built dishwasher and tell the buyer I'll finish it later? The entire climate of Early Access is dodgey at best.

Early Access isn't all bad, Prison Architect always springs to mind. Perfect example of how to do early access right. It's been fully released for years now and it just got a free multiplayer update.

Holy Shit! What a mess that was. I can't even imagine the level of incompetence it took to screw up so many times.

Literally Ark skinned as another game yet functions worse than the original which makes no sense at all. They posted twitter updates before release saying "we don't even have a build ready". How do you not have a stable build the week of release? At that point you're better off delaying the game indefinitely until a decent alpha build is in place. Another perma early access title for the steam store.

Oh dude I'm so sorry about trashing Atlas calling it Ark when it's an entirely different game just built on the same engine, looks the same, plays the same, and is just as buggy if not worse than Ark, AND I can also access the Ark menu somehow. Must truly be a next gen game if it has Ark in this completely different game.

Being developed by a “sister” company of Wildcard, anyone familiar with Ark will recognise this familiar feeling of disappointment with their constant announcement/release/delay cycle lmao. Honestly gamers should not give these companies any more money until they can prove competency.

There's only the need for one company who does it all right. No lies, a finished and complete product, little to no issues upon release and satisfaction of customer's needs. Of course, by providing all that, money in large amounts would be needed. That's why I fear asian companies who have the necessary money. One correct and carefully planned move and they'll get their grasp on the western market.

That one really had a paid DLC in the EARLY ACCESS? What a bloody joke a videogame business has become.

Game devs and Journalist like Jason think that players are acting entitled. Then simply they are not entitled to our money. I get amazed how people like EA CEO insult player community calling them ignorant, arrogantly saying not to buy the game and still expect to make sales and turnover a profit. As if with the all the political bullshit they throw in, we will still fork out our money. Who is the one acting entitled here? Remember they exist for the players, not the other way round. Same goes for Bethesda. They are not doing any favours. Don’t idolise them. Show loyalty to those who return it with sincerity. Any business .. and I mean ANY which acts conceited and loses the pulse of their consumers will inevitably fail.

Because people are acting entitled. It's called early access, the game is going to be broken. If you don't like early, broken builds of games then don't buy early, broken builds of games. It's so fucking simple.

@@crumbmoment "it's called early access" no it's not, you've never actually read any early access agreement, especially the steam one, so shoosh, it's called making a dlc for an existing game and then trying to crowd fund development for it under the false pretence of it being a brand new product, and you're doing that because when its an actual dlc you've already sold a season pass to everyone who cared. Crowd funding your game through early access is specifically listed as a thing that early access is not for, you would know that if you knew what "early access" actually meant and not just type it everywhere like it is a valid and logic excuse for blatantly shady business practices.

I never heard of this game and hearing all these delays just in this format was aggravating me deeply. Can’t imagine how bad it was for fans

The sad part is that most players that come from Ark are so used to it wasn't even a surprise. "Its no a Wildcard game if it isn't delayed". Sad to admit I find myself in that group. Thankfully I have a policy to never buy games until at least it's been out for a month so...

Gotta get those Christmas sales. Also a month for them wouldn’t be enough still, just look at Ark, that game after all the years, it’s still in a broken state, luckily this time only technically as gameplay wise it’s nice if you like the genre. They probably would have delayed it again if it wasn’t for the holidays.
