How to fix this terrible industry for 2019: 1) Never buy anything from Activision, EA, Konami, Ubisoft, nor Warner Bros (if there is any other publisher you don’t like, add them to this list). Any game from them now will have ruined potential and will always be badly designed on purpose to sell microtransactions, lootboxes, and cheat codes. Create the stigma that anything with these publisher’s name on it is a lesser product because it’s true. If you absolutely NEED to have one of their games but still want to get it legally, wait about a year until the game is on sale with included DLC or (preferably) buy a used copy. 2) Never pre-order any game. Waiting until the game comes out to give them money will force them to make sure it’s a functioning, bug-free (as possible), complete game. 3) Wait until said publishers are downscaled/bankrupt from lack of sales. Even if they change their ways after suffering financial struggles, they’ll just go back to their current agenda once they’re back on top again. Let them burn in bankruptcy. They never cared about you. Don’t give them the satisfaction. 4) Wait until they’re forced to sell IPs and franchises to better publishers in order to cut costs from going under. Developers let go from this should also be given employment opportunities from said publishers. This is, unfortunately, the only drawback to this plan as there’s no telling what will happen to said franchises and developers. 5) Spread. This. Message. Feel free to copy/paste this comment anywhere it’s relevant! Anyone who says “this won’t work” is doing EXACTLY what these publishers want. The moment you give up and think uniting against exploitative and terrible business practices is fruitless is the moment you lose. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. This has worked before and it will work again

The gaming industry is on the brink of a total crash, which will be on a much larger scale than the 1983 or the 1991 crashes in terms of sheer amount of loss in money and jobs. Studios will be closed or bought-out, and no risks would ever be taken for a couple of years. A complete re-evaluation will then ensue of what gaming as an entertainment medium, an art form and a commercial industry means and should be followed for a full revitalization. It is time for indies to shine through all the regurgurated garbage of AAA studios and publishers.

Bell Drop Rockstar did that when Gta online went live for the first time. I earned some cash and cars, then I got completely stripped of all of it and had to get all of it back. I played it for a bit, then said FUCK IT and never played the game ever again.

Look at Horizon Zero Dawn for PS4. They released the game for the base price of $60, with no other versions of the game. And the base game has a beautiful long story and a lot of content. Then months later they released the first DLC Expansion, and no season pass. Then months after that they released the 2nd and last DLC expansion. But when they released the 2nd, the last DLC, at the same time they released a complete edition if the game that includes the base game and all DLC's, for $40 ( I think, it may of been sold for $50, cant remember). But a brand new game that just dropped its last DLC was sold for much much less then any other AAA game at its base state. AND Horizon Zero Dawn has ZERO micro-transactions! None, not a single one, and can be played completly offline, and the complete edition included ALL of the DLC on the Disc! No need to download most of it from the internet. lol. Thats why Guerilla Games is up at the top of my favorite game studios.

Surprised they didn't just release the single red dot as it's own standalone $60 game, $80 if you get the collectors edition that comes with a concept art book of the single red dot, or $120 if you get the ultimate edition that comes with the art book and a little plastic statue of the single red dot.

The era of microtransactions never existed until smart phones and their games introduced them. Kids don't understand that microtransactions used to not exist and that the things they now pay for used to come from either full DLC packs or free updates. They also don't understand that buying this crap just perpetuates this obvious cash grab culture. If you want it to stop, STOP BUYING IN. Complaining usually does nothing.

Reticle customization used to be a default option in many shooters since it is helpful to colorblind people. Now they have to pay extra to be accommodated?

I never played the game, but weren't DOTS on scopes kind of "standard" in most games, and in red? I believe that there even a few that lets you customize the color of ther "laser" dot on certain sniper rifles in-game. This is basically an obvious cash grab for what it is. And shit like this is why some people are already unsubbing from their games, yet they still have the gall to wonder why.

​ Danny D I stopped at MW3 so I don't play and please correct me if i am wrong but after a quick google/forum search, you can pray to rnjesus to sometimes get a pitiful amount at the end of a game or grinding daily/weekly challenges. Why I am upset buy this is because in the original black ops you had mostly the whole unlock system using an in game currency that you earned for almost everything you did. On top of the passive earning you could do challenges/wager matches to earn more than normal. I simply do not see the need to make a more exclusive grindy currency to lock not just stupid skins but also stuff like the reticles other than an attempt to get more money out of impulsive people and see how far they can go.

With Destiny 2, they got caught halfing exp gains but claimed to have fixed it by doubling exp needed to level up... effectively making increase from 2x harder to level to 4x harder. Activision is a dirty, slimeball company but unfortunately, the Publishing titans that are poisoning the gaming industry have control of almost all the Developer companies/studios. When one Publisher owns 30 Developer studios... we have monopolies.

If we are at the red dot right now, what will be next? It's a quite interesting question. I honestly can't imagine how to top this, but they will find a way to do it.

BTW, if you think that's the worst Konami does let me point you towards the Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game. The mobile game duel links nickels and dimes players as you'd expect but the card game itself intentionally short prints cards that were already printed at a higher value and bare in mind in that game these cards are often played at 3 and can reach prices from £50-80 each.

Were at the pinnacle of bullshittery for games now. Sad that the thing that has been my go to for nostalgia and memories through the years is just a hopeless cash grab for companies like Activision. Luckily my faith in humanity is already gone so nothing surprises me -_-

The problem isnt that ACTIVI$ION is selling a Dot for $1 (or EA’s lootboxes, Bethesda’s Creation Club...or any of the MT-Controversies). The problem is people are buying it. Game companies could do a micro transaction for literally *nothing* and people would buy it because it has a company name attached to it. I’ve been gaming since the old days of the Amiga 64. I remember when you’d pay half as much and get a *full* game. Companies never seemed to release ‘broken games’ because they relied on their reputation to sell the next games.

I hope Activision wins worst company of 2019...

There aren’t too many passionate developers anymore. Games these days are all about $$$$$$$$$$$. That’s why I love games like god of war, spider-man, red dead redemption 2 and others like them. I’ve never and will never give into the loot boxes and games that are more a subscription than an actual game.

I love how these companies are devouring themselves with their own greed. It's beautiful irony 😢

You know, I HATE microtransactions. As a indie game developer myself, I think it's a distraction from the "art" of games, because such companies eventually make these choices -- and their future design chouces -- based off stakeholders and investors rather than the consumers -- the "experts" -- of their art/entertainment. For this reason, I've warned parents about Battlefront 2, Destiny 2, and other EA games while I worked at Best Buy for the holidays; I've ranted about loot boxes to my game development peers; and I've eshewed almost all phone games. During this most recent Christmas, my brothers -- who aren't as cognizant as me on game industry practices -- wanted to play Destiny 2 with me. I got a free version anyway and wanted to see how Bungie improved the story from Destiny 1. I played it, and the main campaign was noticeably better than D1. Then I bought the ultimate expansion pack (all 3) for 50 bucks. The expansions' campaigns have much more science-fiction influence (as opposed to space fantasy) and were fun to play and see the improvements from the Main Campaign to Expansion III. Beyond the expansions, I haven't spent anything on microtransactions, but they're very cosmetic and yet I feel satisfied that my character looks the coolest (at least to me). Plus, the gunplay is deep and, of course, the aesthetic is PROFOUND. Guys, Destiny 2 is a GREAT game, and FANTASTIC with a friend or family member. I regret not playing D2 until now. (Sorry if my writing sounds like a salesman. I'm just really enthusiastic about my experience so far) Then again, I'm an open-minded guy and change my mind easily when new information presents itself (you have to be flexible as an indie developer, I think, for you get a variety of valuable feedback from the consumers). So, one-minded players may not have the same experience.

But if its purely cosmetic, I dont have a problem with it because it has no legit impact on me, its just something I could get to look 'cooler'. People talking about the bo4 microtransactions and fo76 microtransactions like the game is forcing them to buy it, or the game is shutting them out completely from getting the content. But as both games show, you can get the cosmetic items as you play the game and grind, something people might not want to do so they take it out on other people who have. this is just my opinion, good day :)

PUBG is actually doing the same thing: anyone can progress through Season Pass' levels, but those, who didn't pay for it (witch is almost the whole price of the game to pay) gonna get like 1/20 of the rewards and due to a limitation in missions' rewards they may get to like level 50 (out of 100) by the end of the season *IF* they grind like crazy everyday, because let me tell you Blue Hole added some weird and very specific daily missions, that basically suggest you genocide and loot like every person out of 100 for a ridiculously small amount of exp points. Even people who purchased the Pass are not gonna make it to lvl 100 if they play casually, like a few games every evening, so they *CONVENIENTLY* add level-up coupons to the shop that are not all that cheep either. Also, how about selling the coupon for character's name change for the price of the whole Season Pass, even tho you could get it for free on like lvl 25 on the previous season even without buying the Pass..... And all of this considering the game itself is NOT free to play.

Something Wicked , there actually is a standard red dot reflex, this is an alternate cosmetic you can equip in place of the dot. You can also put in mustaches, among other things, as the alternate optic.

From my shallow perspective, it looks like investors are the root of all the issues here. Like they have the companies (developers, mainly) that might do great stuff by the balls unless they do this ridiculous stuff to keep afloat. Disgusting, greedy people with absolutely no care in the product or the people who buy them. They just want money, with expectations of it making much more money. If this is true, it really sucks that these investors stay out of the limelight while they use the companies they screw over as the scapegoat. Assassin's Creed: Origins had its microtransactions literately advertised in the start menu. Vote with your wallet only works when the company in question isn't a complete sinkhole of greed and shit, it also doesn't work when others happily buys them. As far as your view of Jim Sterling goes I can only say that I would disagree with your description of him but that he's a divisive person so I totally get where you're coming from.

Remember when things like customizable sights and reticles were just part of the progression system, for free, with older games like Black Ops 1? Not even a decade ago. And here we are. This industry has no shame.

yup and season passes that aren't really season passes (Destiny 1 I'm looking at you and that couple hundred I spent on DLC becuase if it's one year after release the season pass doesn't cover it bullshite and won't buy microtrans it's bullshit) I feel old saying it but I remember when micro transactions didn't exist game were sold complete and were bug checked so hard before release since patches and quick fix didn't exist and both gamers and devs had belonged to the nerdy kid like me who didn't fit in anywhere and were even made fun of for playing them XD now games are the cool thing and playing outside is boring and oddly I like to be outdoors more now

Eventually you should be prepared for f2p games even from AAA publishers. Microtransactions produce so much money that many publishers will take the hit and make and make f2p games with aggressive stores that are way more successful in the long run. In mobile games, 0.02% of the playerbase pays for 50% income of a mobile game's earnings.

Why would I in any way feel insulted by dumb, overpriced and meaningless things on a storefront? If that's how you feel it must be a nightmare visiting any store in real world...

It's a dilemma to be sure... but then I remember all the hard development time that went into that dot and how much passion the developers have for this game. We need to support Activision as they strive to make bigger and better dots in the future!

The entire triple A gaming industry is mired in corruption and greed these days, whilst publishers like EA are the worst lets point fingers directly at Bethesda who really started the entire greed in the industry, sooner or later - the entire gaming community as an entire united whole need to fight back against the industry - youtubers bringing news stories like this is fine, its not enough to make the industry thing twice.

I love Black Ops 4, it is literally one of the best games this year in terms of execution. They built one of the, if not THE, best FPS battle royalle game types. They made the regular multiplayer incredibly fun and one of their best yet in terms of balance, map design, player movement, etc. They added incredible new game modes too. All of this has sparked new life into the already booming competitive scene with the CWL Vegas even getting record views on all streaming platforms. People hate so much on CoD and Fortnite but there is a reason they are loved by the vast majority of gamers, not everyone's cup of tea and I get that and the companies are very business orientated but behind that veil of greed, they make AMAZING games.

I dont know, call of duty is a shit show and people still buy it What is wierd is how its one of the most selling game out on the market, but in 2 weeks the player base geta cut in half, so people are just buying the game for the sake of buying it
