Plantar Flexion Stretch

In this video, I demonstrate an easy stretch for ankle, foot, and toe plantar flexion. Working the opposite range of motion to the commonly stretched dorsiflexion is important for full range of motion of these joints.

This is a great underrated stretch. My ankles are so tight. Great explanation. And wow he has really nice looking bare feet.

I’ve been searching for this for years. I have the worst pain when sitting on my legs in plantar flex.

Thanks, man. Like the stretch and, more importantly, your presentation. Got to the point quickly and was very down to earth. Thanks!

Excellent video. I'm finding that this is exactly what I need to handle steel-hard ankle and foot cramps that are hard to release as they involve different muscles that involve both kinds of flexion to release.

Thanks! This is exactly what I needed. I have a 2-year-old ankle injury and am unable to sit on my heels like some other videos recommend for this stretch.

How much should we do this stretch? It seems like there are so many obscure stretches/exercises that are absolutely needed. I can't do them all in one day.

I started working on plantarflexion specifically so I could kneel and sit comfortably on my feet like you demonstrate (seiza-ish), and I found that I stopped getting those awful foot cramps. Is this causal or coincidental and do you know the anatomic mechanism if causal?

For some reason this helps my shoulder blade pain. Any idea why? Makes no sense to me.

There are parts of your nervous system that relax other nerves/muscles. Im not sure what it is called but it may be the same case - for example if you massage your lower back you can stop a cramp in the calf if done correctly. Hope this helps

I have the problem that I cannot flex toes and foot together. When I flex the foot the toes point sort of upwards, but, still look like a claw. And when I flex too much I get a cramp. And can't get anything straight again for a while.
