_Piddle, Twiddle, and Resolve_ *[John Adams]* Dear God! For one solid year they have been sitting here! A whole year! Doing nothing! I do believe you've laid a curse on North America A curse that we here now rehearse in Philadelphia A second flood, a simple famine Plagues of locusts everywhere Or a cataclysmic earthquake I'd accept with some despair But, no, you sent us Congress Good God, sir, was that fair? I say this with humility in Philadelphia We're your responsibility in Philadelphia If you don't want to see us hanging From some far-off British hill If you don't want the voice of independency Forever stilled Then God, sir, get thee to it For Congress never will! You see, we piddle, twiddle, and resolve Not one damn thing do we solve Piddle, twiddle, and resolve Nothing's ever solved in Foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia! *[Congress Member 1]* Someone oughta open up a window! *[John Adams]* Oh shut up! *[Congress Member 2]* We now call Congress’ attention to the petition of Mr. Melchior Meng, who claims twenty dollars compensation for his dead mule. It seems the animal was employed transporting luggage in the service of Congress. *[Congress Member 3]* The question, then, would appear to be one of occasion. For if the mule expired, not while carrying, but after being unloaded, then clearly the beast dropped dead on its own time. *[John Adams]* Oh, Good God! They may sit here for years and years in Philadelphia These indecisive grenadiers of Philadelphia They can't agree on what is right and wrong Or what is good or bad I'm convinced The only purpose this Congress ever had Was to gather here specifically To drive John Adams mad! You see, we piddle, twiddle, and resolve Not one damn thing do we solve Piddle, twiddle, and resolve Nothing's ever solved in Foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia!

William Daniels was great in this Picture, I believe he is still alive in his 90s. The wife of Thomas Jefferson is Blythe Danner ,Mother of Gwyneth Paltrow Also know as Pepper Potts, from Iron Man

Yes Bill Daniels is still with ua...95 years young. It's funny...this was on TCM for the 4th. I was spending the day with my mom (who had never seen it) and I tuned in right after "But Mr Adams" so right when Blythe first appears and my mom thought it WAS Gwen because they looked so much alike. She actually enjoyed the film!!

I try to like other actors in this role, but Daniels owns it, like Robert Preston owned Harold Hill, or Yul Brynner, The Kind of Siam.
