Undertstamd the Shott/ Novinger homestead still stand. My 4thgrandfather is Jonas Shott. His son Jonathan is my my great great grandfather. He is also married to the Truitt family!

Yes Bill Daniels is still with ua...95 years young. It's funny...this was on TCM for the 4th. I was spending the day with my mom (who had never seen it) and I tuned in right after "But Mr Adams" so right when Blythe first appears and my mom thought it WAS Gwen because they looked so much alike. She actually enjoyed the film!!

Nice to see but it doesn't look very well matched. The parts that ended up in the theatrical version look blurry and the sound level is lower, while the inserted footage actually looks sharper. Needs more finessing.

I would like permission to post this on Ancestry.com. I am building a geneology page from my ancestors history. My grandmother was Vivian Kelly and she was a cousin to Marie Cunningham and they were good friends for many years. My grandfather was Orien Truitt. I spent many summers visiting my grandparents in Novinger and was impressed with the history as presented in this video. I am unable to download directly to Ancestry so I need a different format to use. Is there a way to get a Tif file or another format that Ancestry will accept??

I have the director's cut on dvd, but this number remained chopped up. They really did a number on this film to get it down to 2 hours and 20 minutes.

I'm guessing it wasn't restored because the film was not in good condition. However, with modern digital restoration techniques I'm thinking they might could convincingly reassemble it now.

I think the original stage production ran close to 3 hours, so getting the film down to a more....comfortable length was pretty much a requirement for release (even with contemporary films of the time like Fiddler on The Roof and Lawrence of Arabia being closer to 4 hours).

This is an amazingly well done documentary! I'm glad that someone has documented this much information that would otherwise have disappeared. I'm sure that few people from this area even have any idea how big and active Novinger used to be. So much history is fading away....

Really enjoyed this video. My dad was a Wellman and grew up In Novinger also and worked the mines as a young man. I spent quite a bit of time visiting my grandparents in Novinger as a child. My grandfather had a repair shop. When his brick building collapsed after a storm, my parents used some of the re-claimed bricks on their house in Quincy.

This was extremely interesting, especially the old pictures. My family has several members buried there, including my Mom, Delma Wellman Danner, my Dad, Jim Danner, two siblings and many others. Mom's dad, Clarence Wellman, worked the mines and was involved with a shoot-out when the mine owners tried to bring in some foreign strike-breakers. Lots of family history there. My sister, Mary Danner Cassady, is still involved with the community. This was a well done documentary and I appreciate the work that went into it.
