Clean the beans, pick out the small rocks (if any), broken beans, the dark beans, and the dried out rotten beans. Wash the beans with lukewarm water. NEVER put salt until AFTER the beans cook to avoid dark beans.

My mother and my grandmother always said to add the salt an hour after cooking, because if you add it in the beginning, it takes longer for the beans to soften.
You forgot to check for pebbles and also add garlic. Also, you should not add any salt until after they are cooked because salt prevents beans from softening, or will take a lot longer to soften.

That's an interesting way to cook them. We soak them overnight and boil the smoked meat then add the beans

Yea soak them for more flavor and softer bean
I like to soak them for a couple hours, changing out the water when it gets dark. This helps to keep them from giving gas. Cook for a few hours adding bacon and a little rotel when they are semi soft. Mush a few beans to make them slightly creamy, add onion, cilantro and some salt and garlic powder. Also, using half chicken broth instead of all water adds flavor.
It's not that I don't know how to cook pinto beans, it's that there are about 3 million different ways to do so on youtube and I am trying to find an "average of the totals" recipe and then work with that.
I love watching and learning how people cook pintos. It’s the little things that are slightly different. Being from the South, pintos are a big deal! I watched and helped my granny sort the beans. ❤️ We loved having a simple lunch of pintos served with cornbread cooked in the iron skillet ❤️
I was told to add the salt after the beans are soft so that's what I do. But I will try this method for sure

Yes, and Never add cold water to your beans while cooking
Más cebolla y ajo por favorrrs
The best way for me is to yes, wash them first. Then let them sit in water while your water in the pot comes to a boil, then put in the beans. This makes the cooking process a little quicker and helps the beans be cleaner looking. I also boil with garlic clove to release the ‘bean gas’

If that’s a concern for you add some Epasote while cooking your brans
when we cook it at my house, about halfway through the cooking is when we add salt, onion, and garlic. i dont know how much of a difference it makes when adding these halfway, but hey, its tradition here
We're always learning a better way of cooking thanks enjoy watching your videos looking for your cookbook God bless everybody
Yes add salt after. Also adding salt in the beginning can pit your pot at the bottom of tge pot.
My grandma taught me you do not out the beans in until the water is boiling. And if you need to add more water, it needs to be hot or the beans get dark in color. (Speaking about Peruvian beans) but everyone has their method. ❤
Y el garlic 🧄? 🤷🏽♀️

Please pick any stones out, most beans have pebbles that if not taken out will crack a tooth
First soaked them overnight 😢
You can add garlic and epazote too. Salud y saludos.

What about looking for the Little Rock’s that the pinto have.🤔
Thank you for the lesson on cooking beans. You are right, many of us are just learning to cook.

I would've dropped in some smoked turkey wings, lil bit cajun seasoning, and can't forget garlic and onions. In my house anyway. And made a little pan of cornbread.

When I was a kid my dad use to make use go through each individual bean to make sure there were no rocks or debri in it. Kinda annoying, but I cant remember if we ever found any rocks.

Childhood memories!! I only cook Peruano beans now but I did find little gray rocks in the pintos back in the days.
Great, should have read the comments first. I did sort beforehand but didn’t know about adding salt afterwards. I’m going to blend mine though after they’re cooked and refry them. That’s where I’ll add the onion and garlic.
Just use a slow cooker overnight or for a few hours. (not kidney beans though because they are toxic if they don't get boiled)
Everybody is an expert AND a critic.
Level it and dump that water on your outdoor plants too! Like your channel, thanks for all the content!
I do it the same ! Omgg
I started off takening my pinto beans out the bag they come in and soak them in a pot over night .thenI rinse them good until the water run clear then I take out the bad pinto beans then I put 10 cups of water in my pot to cover my beans then I put my beans in chicken broth 2 cubes i then cut up one big onion, then I get my meat out or I used smoke turkey legs about 5 or I used about 8 fresh or smoke turkey necks or about 5 turkey wings then I either used those type meat in my pinto beans it gives it a great flavor, then I used two bay leaves into beans, then I put one tablespoon of garlic powder in my beans, then one tablespoon of black pepper in my beans , one belll pepper, one tablespoon of of seasonings salt, then once my beans boil 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil and let my pinto beans cook for for hours until tender then on the side I make corn bread, and brown rice on side to go with my beans
So we usually season after its done and soak for an hr or so (before cooking) so that it doesnt take too long to cook
Lmao as a brown american woman this the only time I let my man who is latino cook😅
It's the brother 😂 of Indian Rajma (kidney beans) and we simply soak it overnight. Add spices like bay leaves, star anise and cinnamon sticks and pressure cook in a cooker for 40 to 50 minutes. Keep aside till the pressure goes out from the pressure cooker.
I was taught to clean them by sorting the beans and finding the little stones or rocks out. Then you rinse them.I try not to waste so much water.I dislike biting into a hard little rock.
Y la cebolla ?

What I like about your beans is, they aren’t smashed their hold and soft
30minutes in a pressure cooker, la heat
Oaky, I have my bowl! Yum!
Everyone has different ways to cook them I was told you never add salt until they’re almost the reason it’s it will take more time to cook and and won’t be tender the same with meats specially the ones that take more time to cook 😮
❤🎉❤🎉 thank you
Something i always wondered was, to soak the beans, put the beans to soak in the fridge, if you leave them to soak at room temp,, they smell rotten. Yes you dispose of the water, replace it and boil.
if you buy them from the mexican market by the pound you need to pick out the rocks in them changed my moms life the day i told her to get the ones from sams club lol
You forgot to sort the beans before you washed them. 🤦🏻♀️
Best way for me is to sort & rinse well & cover with warer & then soak overnight. In the morning, Rinse & cover with water and boil for 5 minutes rinse again and cover with water & boil for 5 more minutes. THEN rinse again & cover with water & bring to boil & finally, reduce heat to simmer for 2 hours. This boiling & rinsing gets rid of the nasty so we are not having the common issues after eating. beans.
I❤PINTOS!!!!
Everyone should know how to cook beans. So this is pretty much a PSA in my eyes.
I was taught to soak them. I think the instructions on the bag say to soak them.
Oh my. I learned as a young girl 1st to sort ,get the tiny rocks out and soak overnight. Maybe saying it loud makes you expert
Thankz i didnt know im tired of can beans

No overnights soaking?
I didn’t realize how long it takes to cook pinto beans
What kind of chili did you use?
Wait. No salt?
I enjoy some of your recipes, especially when you throw the food at your camera. With all due respect, you will have to start when making beans as my mother showed me to separate the bad or chip beans and the small rocks that come with the bag of beans, yes, depending on were your beans come from you will need to freeze them first because the beans sometimes have a bug 🐛 in side and freezing kills the bugs. Then, use water to rinse more than once. At times, the darker the water tells you how old the beans are. I never wash my beans as my mother used to wash in the tub. Because we have a washer 😅 and last I dump the water after cooking 30 minutes and add new clean filter water along with 1 jalapeno G/R 🌶 and one whole onions 🌰 cut in 4 pieces ( some time) if you let set the beans in water for 30 minutes it will take less time to cook. The only things I cook outside are carne asada, chicken, shrimp, and vegetables for salsa. 🍋🍅🌰🦪🍤 Now y lesto and enjoy senorita. 😎
Tried boiling them for two hours they are still hard an uncooked I’ll let you guys have all the beans?
Salt goes last when it's done
I’m sooo glad you don’t soak los frijoles either, we just cook them right away too and it completely transforms the beans and the bean broth into the most amazing and delicious beans ever!! No measurements needed, I do how mi Gramita taught me and I’m so blessed to continue preparing her food, so blessed 🥲💯🙏🏽💞
Salt goes in once fully cooked... according to my mom...😮
You add water when cooking they won’t stay pink!
I wash my Beans with a Drop of dishwashing SOAP! Swish, Swish, Rince several times. Cook with baking soda remove the GAS💨 Bring to a boil for 10 minutes. Drain and rinse. Fill cool with water and another teaspoon of Baking Soda, start the cooking proses. Add your onion and herbs of your choice. Buddy Love Momma Lucy 💖
No sorting, soaking?
Lady, You need to learn how to cook beans...You pour onto flat surface, go through the beans and fish out the rocks or little Pebbles or dirt and beans that are bad or broken then the next thing you do is you rinse and clean them...add to water ½ a large onion,6 garlic cloves,1 whole Jalapeño,1 whole serrano. Boil beans stir occasionally, annd wat ater as thèy cook down...then add salt! ((You're not to put salt till completely cooked.))
Usa colador es mas facil
Never salt your beans before theyre cooked. Ever. Why. Because they will dry your beans out and possibly turn too dark
It’s almost like cooking rice
Soak the beans overnight before cooking. They cook faster
If you add water use hot water.
Y la sal?
Many still don't ? You should let them soak for 3 hrs & then cook for best results , jen✌🏽😚
