I never heard of adding banana. I don't think my pallet agreed with that part other than that was great recipe.

I also add a can of garbanzo beans and potato (no banana or avocado) and red rice on the side 😊

In El Salvador we put plaintain and Yuca in our Caldo de res! Its delicious!! Only difference is we actually cook it in our soup.. never seen it done this way before. 🤔🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻

Plantain, not banana. Plantains have a higher starch content and are not as sweet as banana's. There are several Spanish cultures in which plantains are used in their sopas. There's nothing wrong with it.

​@@Jolene8actually plantains can be sweet if you buy them when their yellow they indeed have a sweetness with them and you can est them as is or with sour cream while green one's you can eat as is or sprinkle tiny bit of salt over them right after you take them out of the oil. My mom is from Colombia and this is how we eat plantains otherwise we we simply cut up the green one's and put the slices into sopa along with yuca & etcetera..

My family comes from the north (Nuevo León) and we do not put plátano, but yes, this is how my grandma used to make it. I have Venezuelan friends who make this and they add “plátano maduro”. In the southern states of Mexico they do add plantains and chayote (a type of squash). Edit: my grandma used to make “arroz rojo” red Mexican rice on the side and it was optional to add it in your caldo de res con limón! 😂

Try plantain(Platano Macho) verde instead of platano y pairs very well with caldos

We add a platano macho and cook it with rest of the veggies we cook bone for a while to get the flavor and cook the meat for 40 minutes so it won't be dry

I can eat it either with banana or with the salsa but not both! 👍🏼

Wow, the banana got me. I love macho.

El elote, cebolla, ajo y jitomate yo lo agrego una vez que hirvio el agua con la carne y le bajo al fuego. Después de 1 hora y 30 minutos pongo la verdura (chayote, calabaza, zanahoria, papa, ejotes y un pedazo de repollo) a veces licuo jitomate cebolla y ajo. Lo cuelo y lo agrego al caldo 😋. Al arroz rojo sí le pongo platano pero no necesariamente cuando como cocido (caldo de res). La proxima vez que haga caldo lo voy a probar asi😅

In some Central American countries we do add bananas but it’s the green unripe banana not when the banana is already yellow. As a matter of fact we several dishes that are prepared using green unripe bananas 😊
