Honestly I would put my money on The Mask... While Deadpool can break 4th wall like The Mask, he can't do totally random stuff like The Mask would. Deadpool can only use things in his enviorment while The Mask can pretty much improvise as much as he wants.

Not really if it was made or release today i think it might flop because its theme and tone are completely different or lighthearted from its source material because the original mask comics are supposed to be violent and gory just like deadpool. The only reason it became successful before because in the 90s people still prefer PG rated movies unlike today where people wanted a film based on comics to be faithful and R rated like deadpool. But I have to say Jim carrey is really perfect for the role because of his cartoonish movements. But i think they should remake this movie but this time making its tome and theme to be faithful like the original.

All the references made in the "death" scene: "Ya...got me partner!" - A good impression of Pat Buttram, a voice highly associated with Western films. "Tell Auntie Em to let Old Yeller Out" - A reference to Aunt Em in The Wizard of Oz and Old Yeller. "Tell Tiny Tim I won't be coming home this Christmas" - Tiny Tim is a character in Dickens' novel A Christmas Carol. "Tell Scarlett I do give a damn" - A comedic reply to Rhett Butler's line "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" in Gone With the Wind. At the end of the scene, he is presented with an award for his performance and breaks the fourth wall by thanking the movie audience with Sally Field's acceptance exclamation "You love me! You really love me!". As this is going on, people-shaped silhouettes appear onscreen and applaud while Dorian combs his hair, adding to the illusion of an appreciative film theatre audience.

@tonymata8070

That was the original idea, since The Mask is based on a comic book from Dark Horse Comics. The comics focused on different individuals who come into possession with the supernatural artifact and bloody mayhem ensues, New Line Cinema viewed this as a perfect replacement for Freddy Krueger since they killed him off in Freddy's Dead at the time. They chose Chuck Russell to direct the film since he had experience in the realm of horror thanks to him directing A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, but he felt that the character was too similar to Freddy and wanted the film to be a comedy instead, they said no and he exited for the time being. So they began working on the horror version of The Mask but long story short it didn't work out and hired back Chuck Russell to direct and the rest is history.

@@jayluis189 Yeah, it was a pretty crazy development. So many different scripts were written, with some missing the point of the comic’s dark sadistic humor, and one actually deviated from the source material entirely. The one script in question actually focused on a mask maker who created masks out of the faces of cadavers, kidnaps a couple of unsuspecting teenagers, and places said masks on their faces turning them into zombies.
"Cough cough cough, Tell Scarlett I do give a damn." Jim Carrey is awesome I died with laughter during this whole scene. Legendary 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If Luffy references anything of this scene of The Mask in general then he will officially be the most based anime protagonist.

Why are so many people trying to kill "The Mask" instead of questioning how he does all the INSANE logic defying sht he does throughout the movie.

@@h0m3st4r As a kid them trying to kill Stanley throughout the movie made sense to me because as a kid, you just know they are villains and villains kill and that's it.
