There is CGI, just not with Carrey's direct facial expressions. He learned to talk and do the facial expressions himself. The really complex stuff, like at 2:06 when his mouth falls down and his tongue rolls out, or at 2:16, when his heart is beating out of his chest, or when his head turns into a howling dog- that's ILM's CGI. Those kinds of things can't be realistically done any other way and look convincing. CGI was starting to really get sophisticated and available around the mid '90s, especially after Jurassic Park had come out.

Fun Fact: The Mask, in the rewritten script for Carrey, had the nightclub scene in SoCal, but no nightclub allowed them to interrupt nightly business. Jim told the director he owned a club called the Coco Bongo in Mexico and they could use it. So this scene was filmed in Carrey's personally owned nightclub in Mexico.

Jim Carrey paying homage to the Pachuco Zoot Suit dancers of the 40s. Many people do not realize that this style and dance originated in the Mexican-American neighborhoods of Los Angeles. A piece of American history.

My god I loved this film as a kid! And Cameron Diaz
I remember when I watched this in cinema, the CGI was way too good in 1994, super underrated
Carrey should have won a golden globe or best actor award for The Mask and both Ace Ventura films. Because without him, there wouldn’t be a film. He made the characters come to life in every film (including other movies he was in)!
The way he sits is everything
The moment she walked in made my jaw drop just like the mask

Cameron Diaz looks stunning here. Don't know why she never looked as good in any other movie.

2:38 That was clever of how the movie crew animated this part.

2:17, I Want My Heart to Beat Like That If I Ever Meet Cindy Crawford
I know Jim Carrey is not big on doing sequels and actually walked away from a huge contract offer for a second mask, but with the right story lines, this could’ve been a great trilogy/saga.

But what could the plot of the sequel been about? The mask was thrown into the river at the end and Stanley didn’t need the mask as he got Tina in the end

In a way they did do sequels when they made the cartoon series for 3 seasons on CBS.

If you want a continuation I recommend the animated series from 1995, it's a fun cartoon and it has Rob Paulsen (from Animaniacs) as Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask. 😁
Cameron Diaz and Jim Carrey are the real stars in this movie and I like to give them points.
2:55 LOL!!!
Her appearance in this film was my teenage crush!
"Hey! Pachuco!"
Nobody could have played this role better than JIM CARREY . HE was #BORN_TO_PLAY this role !!!
Man...I had crush on her so badly when I first saw her in this movie. 🥰 Now I know how The Mask felt.
