Hi great review its refreshing to see a vid without " paid promotion " , I own the kamasu and I think it's hard to beat for the money , also own the ray 2 , orient put a lot of more expensive brands to shame only thing I wish they could have given the option of a no date version , I would have put up with a ghost position to keep the symmetry of that beautiful teal dial !

Interesting - I have heard others mention they would prefer no date on their watch as well. Yeah I don't have any any sponsors or affiliates. I'm just a humble watch nerd that makes videos on the side :) Thanks !

Very good and interesting review. The two points mentioned here - brushed sides and brushed bezel - have all been remedied with the new Kamasu 2! I have it in teal color, and it's gorgeous. Strapcode jubilee bracelet looks so damn good on this watch, sooner or later I will buy it too. But I will wear this original one at least one year, it deserves it. :) Then I will know how to appreciate Strapcode and the money spent on it better.

Good review. I considered for a while the Kamasu, but I still like a lot my Mako 2 with blue dial. I scratched a bit the cristal, but I would still buy it again. If I were to upgrade (which I have), I would look for a different brand.

Yeah, when I put my Ray 2 up for sale I noticed a few very fine scratches on the crystal. They were hard to make out and could only be seen under certain lighting conditions. I didn't wear the watch every day and when I did, i was very careful so that makes me think Orient mineral crystal is not so good with scratch resistance.

The ray 2 ( USA ?) I'm sure had drilled lugs. Surely, it goes against Kaizen?! I have the Ray 2 and think the case size & design ( Kamasu looks yo have the same)is a bit 'bulky' compared to other divers with similar specs - oh ,yes, should 've been 40mm with 20 mm lugs ( = new case - more cost- if recycling ray/mako one).

I got the Ray 2 early on in my collecting and I remember thinking it was a bit small but know that I know more, I think that around 40-42 mm is a perfect size for a dive watch. I have owned several orients and none had drilled lug holes. I'm not sure why they don't do that.

I bought the strapcode bracelet, but the spring bar simply doesn’t fit right, one end refuses to get latched in

I'm assuming you are using the spring bars that came with the strapcode bracelet. I didn't have that problem.

I've had this issue one time in my life, I swapped the spring bar and it fixed the issue. I think one in a million spring bars are cut slightly off or something.

The Kamasu, the Ray 2 and the Mako 2 all should have a 20mm lug width. The case diameter should never be less than 2X the lug width.

  • @tiagodvt

Well, I would prefer it with the 20mm, no doubt. But I don't think that the "should never be less than 2x the lug width" should be a strict rule - it looks good nonetheless and it wouldn't stop me from buying it and/or appreciating it. Well, looking at the bright side - StrapCode offers a great bracelet that tapers from 22 to 18. Their bracelets that start at 20 only taper to 18 as well. So, in this case, if you like the bigger taper (and I surely do!) and want to wear it on a bracelet, having the 22mm lug width is better.
