Today we are reviewing the latest generation of the Orient Kamasu, a more premium variant of the Orient Mako and Orient Ray! The reference numver is: RA-AA0811E19B
While Mako has an original design like the first Kamasu, this second generation has a more traditional look, just like the Ray, but with the upgrades seen on the first Kamasu, a sapphire crystal and a easier to grip bezel.
The movement F6922 is still the same as well as the case and bracelet.

If you haven't gotten a Kamasu yet, this is a great time. You can find third party bezels and several metal bracelet options made specifically for this watch. I've had a blue gen 1 for a year, and it has been flawless. I hope for gen 3 they upgrade the stock bezel and bracelet, but again, there are aftermarket options. The real bump, for me, would be increasing the energy storage to 60 or 80 hours. 40 hours realistically means you have to wear it every other day, or else go through the hassle of setting it up again - not great for someone wanting to expand and wear their watches. Tissot can do it, why not Orient, and it would be a huge differentiator from other brands.

When I enquired further as to why the prices are so hiked up in UAE..they said it's actually 1200AED (after mentioning some "discount"). Ok I have to be honest I fell in love with the 1st gen Kamasu because of it's own style. I have mixed feelings about this 2nd gen, it's still a very pretty watch because of the improved green dial but it resembles too much to a Submariner. Now I've saw the new (probably) 3rd gen and it's jaw dropping. The number is RA-AA0818L and they went back to the old dial with added 12, 6 and 9 hour arabic numerals, the hour hand is now the same style as the minute one and the second hand is colored like the 1st gen was. I want to get one now I'm torn between the gen 1 and gen 3 :-I

I would like to buy one, with an emerald green shade if not darker. I call it blue collar bling because its an affordable luxury watch without the Rolex prices. Do I have to dress nice for it? I like to be subtle when I go out, and I feel darker greens is a subtle color. PS Im mid 40s that enjoys being invisible. But I do have an honest question. This is a confusing watch. In the Orient video it is called the "Kamasu" yet on the company website it is not shown with the Kamasu line. To add to the confusion some places label it as the "Kamasu Mako." These are beautiful, but Orient needs to be consistent and clear as to what this watch is. They would have been wiser to leave the dial design alone to continue with the success of the Kamasu and just change the colorways. Kamasu seems to actually refer to the case and notched bezel as dials can now have round or square markers. The case itself is smaller and more wearable than the Kanno.

I like the Kano a lot better. The Kamasu has those funny looking indentations around the outside of the bezel like the Mako and Ray models did, and the hour hand is not a design that I like. Compared to the Kano the Kamasu is too small. I don't personally like that sunburst look of the dial but that's just me. The only positive of the Kamasu is its sapphire crystal.

  • @carllange3950

I enjoy your reviews, but why are you calling this watch a Kamasu II? That would imply that it is a replacement for the Kamasu. That is unlikely. If you are going to make up model names, a more logical one might be Ray III. Orient (Japan) does not use these names. As far as I can tell, names were created by Orient Watch USA and they are apparently phasing out the practice. The watches that they used to call the Ray II, now have just the model number on their website.

Not sure what you're complaining about, isn't having more choices always better? The regular Kamasu is still there for purchase. This is just a variant of the Kamasu or the Ray. It's not a second generation of the Kamasu, as nothing was improved.

@@lionary Let me enlighten you. Both are still out there, Ray and Kamasu, plenty of them. Mixing the dials so you still have a Submarine alike in a way is wrong IMO. Even worse, i saw a vid of Orient, saying that they even tried to make lume and dial patina like a vintage watch would do. Guess which... If you're Orient and EVERYONE is praising you for the BEST branded diver around 200something whatevers, you grab the chance and go ahead, not back. Will sell for sure, but no evolution (as you said too, nothing was improved...). That's my point of view. Thanks mate, be well.

@@stavros_katsopr I hear you. I too would have liked some improvements to the Kamasu, at the very least the hollow end links--Orient didn't seem to have a problem putting solid end links on the Orient Mako USA 2. So yes the current offering is disappointing from that standpoint. As for me personally, I happened to like the look of the original Ray when it came out years ago, but never went for it mostly because of the lack of sapphire crystal. So this was my opportunity, of sorts. (I also already have a couple Kamasus..) But I can see how this would be encouraging Orient's laziness. Cheers

Terrible bracelet that is rattly and too wide/not enough taper, terrible tiny crown and gritty winding feel, terrible bezel action with heaps of backplay. A San Martin/Cronos from Aliexpress is far better built with better specs for the money.
