One Of The BEST Peak District Hiking Loops? Brown Knoll & Kinder Low via The Great Ridge

One Of The BEST Peak District Hiking Loops? Brown Knoll & Kinder Low via The Great Ridge
So I decided on bank holiday to go to the Brown Knoll trig point for another hike in the Peak District. Once I got there I decided to carry on up to Kinder Low to the trig point there then head back down Jacob's Ladder to Edale.
I then had to cut through some farms back to Mam Tor and through Winnats Pass back to the car in Castleton.
It was quite a decent walk and have been to all the areas of the Kinder area multiple times, but haven't 'bagged' the Brown Knoll trig point yet so had to be done.
If you are thinking of going to the Brown Knoll trig point from The Great Ridge along Rushop Edge you will see how easy the stone stepped path is, so even if the weather is bad or has been bad for a few days you wont have to worry about the Perak District peat bogs!
The same if you were coming from the kinder area there is still the stone path.
Thank you very much for watching, please check out the back catalogue of videos and my Peak District playlist, I'm sure there is something you will like. Also please think about subscribing if you are new then we can enjoy many adventures together.
Take care... Chris

    That family would have drove me bananas. A good length of hike that 1 mate. I noticed at the start of the video how blue the skies were and then watched as more and more clouds came in. I am glad it did not rain too much for you. Another cracking video, thanks for sharing.

    I was up here Monday. Went from Edale Car Park up Jacob's Ladder did a left to Brown Knoll and back over Lord's Seat. (It has fencing at three parts of it and a sign, it's raised significantly) Then, down across farms to Edale. Beautiful loop, but yours was longer. We missed out Mam Tor. It's like tourist central all day long. Even at sunrise, it's packed. I think sunset or midnight is the only time you get it to yourself. Another great vlog, Chris. Thanks for sharing.

    Oh wow yeah that sounds like a great loop!! Love a bit of Jacobs Ladder 😁 Mam Tor is a joke if you want solitude haha. Especially how you can park right on the twisty road going down to Edale and get to the top in 3 mins 😂 I see people going up there in dresses, flip flops n Al sorts 🤦🏻‍♂️ I've cut through it so to speak that many times over the years and its always rammed, unless certain times like you said. I try to avoid it now if possible or just run over it 🤣 Thanks as always for watching Chris. Take it easy 👍🏻

    Good evening Chris, another brillaint video showcasing the fabulous offerings of the Peak District, so wild and rugged ❤ loved the moody and slightly threatening clouds too! Dear me with the wild family, and the bananas lol 🍌🍌🍌 You have some great paths through the moors, greaybfor conservation and I guess navigating on less weather friendly days too. Very much hope to hike these routes one day 🤗 You know you stuff when it comes to the vistas and what's on the horizon, cracking video and top energy again. Well played Chris, love and hugs, Ceri and Kat ❤👍🤗💧🤭

    Another great Peak District walk Chris. I steer clear of Mam Tor most of the time too. I did go up over Christmas in full winter conditions, expecting it to be quiet. It still wasn’t, although it was quite entertaining watching people try to ascend the icy paths in trainers. I was tempted to capture it on video 😆. You don’t have to venture far to find peace and quiet though. Enjoyed watching as always 👍

    Same mate, well it was just before Christmas in the snow think it was my 3rd video I put up. Saw people sliding everywhere without spikes 9n and 2 people who hurt their ankles. Had to give plasters to 2 kids too who cut themselves on rocks affer their parents were letting them use sledges down the side 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ not knowing what was underneath. Definitely dont have to go far for some piece and quiet and think thats what I shall be doing next time. Thanks so much for watching as always 🙏🏼😊👍🏻

    Hi! Thanks so much!... yeah you sort of have to divert on and off it ive found as it does get a bit messy in places. Haven't been on The Great Ridge since this though so not sure how that stone path has improved 🤔 I litterally came down from Mam Tor to where those cars park on the corner of the road right at the bottom of it, turned right and did a bit of road walking for about 3 mins as if I was driving down to Edale but you come to a gate / style you can go over then just cut straight up to Rushop Edge and onwards to Lords Seat etc 👍🏻

  • @theheightoflife

    @theheightoflife

    Thanks! Yeah I got a few miles in on this one lol... that is a very good question and would depend on the location. There are so many different scenarios on this walk... If I had of been higher up I would descent down away from the tops of the hills, get somewhere so there is higher ground than you and find somwhere to shelter. I do always have an emergency storm shelter that I carry in my day hike and camping rucksaks anyway, especially when in the Lakes and more mountainous terrain as the weather can change very quick. I always keep my eye on the cloud changes and what type of clouds are forming too, if I had of been on the stone path for example in a massive open area and it had started getting very stormy in the distance (as the clouds were coming from the direction I was walking) then I would have just turned round as I knew what was on the route previously and knew there was a gate by Rushop edge that you could cut through back down. Stay away from the high points and objects that conduct with the ground, get yourself down so there are higher points than yourself. If there arent any get yourself down low but try to have no contact with the ground so maybe lie on rucksaks / mats etc if you have them. Storm shelters are awesome they pack down small and you're glad you have them if needed lol. Thanks for watching enjoy the rest of your weekend! ATB... Chris
