On The Hunt Ep.24 Gimme 40 Acres and I'll Find The Parts I Need

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#onthehunt #twinsticks #twinstickgarage
On this episode I was lucky enough to find an entire field of old trucks by talking to a few old timers and using Google Earth to find them. After making a special trip, I met the owner’s, two brothers who took over the business from their dad who started it back in the mid-70’s. What an incredible collection of old iron - I was like a kid in a candy store walking around. So many potential projects including a mint GMC General with an 8V71 Detroit that would be a great candidate for a Smokey & The Bandit Part 2 replica. Unfortunately, without additional room in the new shop for another truck, I was forced to just look for parts I needed for the #IronDuke, my 1979 Kenworrth K100 cabover truck that I recently started building. After walking the yard, not only did I find some junkyard gold including rare, impossible to find parts for my cabover, I also found some 22” aliuminum 10-hole split rings rims that I have been searching for to use on #ProjectSnowman, my Smokey and the Bandit Tribute truck. What a great day and special thanks to Trevor and Ryan for allowing me to walk their yard. Boy if some of these old trucks could talk, the stories they would tell…
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!

Ya know, Mark, I've gotta thank you. You have re-awakened in me the love for big trucks that I had as a kid. These on-the-hunt episodes allow me to see a lot of the same trucks I used to watch drive by every day when I was growing up in the early 1980s. It's a bit little bittersweet to see them rusting apart, but I sure am enjoying the memories. I also greatly enjoy seeing you wrench on them, bringing them back to life little by little. Thank you kindly!

Happy & Sad. Happy to see all these beautiful cabs and sad to see the shape they are in today. Used to see all those shiny truck cabs lined up in truck stop parking lots, but now they are all lined up in old faded field yards. Thanks You for bringing them back on memory lane Mark

Peterbilt switched to hinged door handles around’74 on their conventionals. That is probably a 74 to 78/9 cab. Corvette dash came out to mass market in ‘79.

Wow this is the best junkyard you've taken us to so far! Love that old early 70's White Western Star, definitely the truck I would restore if I had the means to do it. It's hard to find one of those Autocar "Drivers Cabs" that White used on them that's not thoroughly rusted out. I wish we could have seen the blue Kenworth cabover headlight area, that would have made it easier to narrow down a range for the year. The early 60's 500 series cabover had that large wiring access panel like this one under the driver's side windshield @ 24:01, but they had the cab skirt behind the front wheels which this one lacks. It was cool to see that one and the White Freightliner with intakes that went through the cab, that was definitely early 60's designs for them. Peterbilt had the intakes that ran down through the passenger side front of the sleeper on a lot of the 352 cabovers right up til '81 which was their final year. Glad to see you found all of those cool parts for the Duke!

Even with the cabovers, they were using every inch of length back then, because of the length laws. That’s why Peterbilt cabovers taper forward at the upper rear of the cab. It’s so the trailer can be pulled up tight to the tractor, and the top of the trailer won’t hit the tractor when it starts up hill. Take care and Happy New Year.

The White redi-mix truck caught my eye. I have a 65, Cummins powered, former single axle tractor (now a dump box installed). It has the same trans setup and I use it to pull tag trailer for hauling my vintage equipment. It can be seen on my channel. Thanks for the video. The sad part is when properties like this get sold and “cleaned up”.

Basically works exactly like you described: has a rubber boot that seals the intake pipe to the top of the Donaldson filter housing when the cab is down. Keep up the good work, Mark.

Not sure if you read your comments but if you do I got to tell ya I’m watching all your back episodes. I sure look forward to meeting you. I missed the truck show this year as I’m out in BC looking after family issues. Your brilliant Twin Stick and your love for trucks rivals mine. I am absolutely amazed at your patience and especially your painting capabilities. It just comes so naturally to you. Man oh man buddy your so talented. I have a little place out in Spruce and an acreage in Kamloops. It would be a privilege to meet you one day. If I’m having a bad day , which are far and few between, but if I’m bummed out I watch one of your shows and I instantly feel better. You are medicine for the soul my friend. Seriously you make people feel better and give people something to think about. Believe it or not you have inspired me to “Little by Little” my old 2014 Ram 3500 diesel. I get compliments on that pickup now. I love it more than my new truck. But more than that you give hope that by true GRIT you can actually accomplish something. By the way I named my cat Little by Little. I just call her little. So when I meet you at a show you will know who I am. I’m the guy that named his cat after your 1979 Pete. Keep up the great content man. You help me stay sane. Stay warm. Regards, Jim

My 74 Pete had those same doors. They switched from the unilite style in 72. Love the on the hunt video's. Graveyards like that don't exist by me anymore. Those yellow one's looked like diamond t's from the late 30's
