On The Hunt Ep.25 Raiders of the Lost Peterbilt

On this episode I head back to my favorite auction yard to dream about more truck I can’t afford. Actually, I was there to help a friend try and find a 379 Pete but it never hurts to see what else is selling. Lots of minty Pete’s, though I couldn’t figure out why all the grill logos were missing, some beautiful Kenworths, Macks, Internationals, Western Stars and of course tons of the streamlined and aerodynamic Freightliners and Volvos. As usual, I poke fun at the automatics and share my thoughts on DEF. Finally, as I was covering the back corners of the yard, I discovered a blue 362 big cab Peterbilt cabover truck that sure looked familiar. Sure enough, it was the very truck I found for sale on the side of the highway during my summer vacation last year. As I always say, wish I had made my shop with 4 stalls to bring this beauty home. Will be very interested to see what it sells for on auction day…
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!

Correction to my comment in the video about this Pete maybe being a 362H … there is no “362H” only a 352H that was developed as an interim model between the 352 and the 362 platform when the truck sales weren’t supporting the costs of full development of the 362. The 352H was built for the bigger engines and cooling needs of the large Cats like the 3408, Detroit 8v92 and the KT Cummins. The 1st 352H was built as a '76 model year - last in 1980. The build numbers for the 352H and the 352 are merged together. 352H stands 4 inches taller than 352, the cosmetic differences being the cab panels below the headlamps, wider step pockets, lower mounted turn signals, taller grille and unique bumper (center mounted fog lamps vs. wide spread on 352). 352H required a unique cab tilting system, a wider doghouse and a 1510 square inch radiator. If you have a 352H that you don’t want anymore, please let me know 😉

The 352H was developed in the mid-70’s expressly to fit the Cummins K-series engines and Caterpillar 3408, and facilitate the much larger radiator required to keep them cool. Everything learned from the 352H went into the design of the succeeding 362…wouldn’t necessarily call the 352H an “interim model”.

I've got both and it has been good so far with the Mack MDrive automatic and 505 hp mp8 same thing as the D13 Volvo and I shift from what I've read I was scared of the Def system but so far it's good at 96000 miles and about a year of driving it .

I have a 2022 pinnacle with the mp8 505 hp and the MDrive automatic transmission hauling logs and it has done well so far I have 96000 miles on it and have had 90,000 lbs plus weight and it does pretty well it doesn't hesitate to shift and has manual mode for off-road , performance mode for when you need it starting off and performance + when your really heavy and in a bad spot , it is my first automatic and I was skeptical at first but it is good so far they've really brought the Mack a long way on technology in the cab as well .

Hi twin sticks ! , greetings from the UK I know an auto isn’t a “man’s “ transmission but there is a good argument for they’re increasing popularity They reduce wear through operator error and are more fuel efficient through in theory being in the correct gear at all times , Here in the uk where diesel is $7.90 a us gallon ,95% of all new semi trucks are automatic , they’re so advanced they use gps to even know where hills are and correct engine output accordingly !! , The Volvo unit you showed with I shift is regarded as one of the best available along with scanias opti cruise But I look forward to getting back to the USA a playing with a 13 eaton again !!
