Ahh, memories! I owned one just like that when I first started trucking. Mayflower Van Lines. Mine had a 6V71 with a 7 speed. When bobtailing I always felt like it would flip onto it's nose if I hit the brakes too hard, LOL.

Oldtimers called them fishbowls due to the big windshield! The orange paint and single axle might be hints it was a household mover truck, known as bedbuggers on the CB! nice find!

When I landed my first real truck driving job with one of the "big" carriers back in 1979 was my first experience with a GMC Astro single axle slab cab (non sleeper) with a 13 speed transmission. We used to call them California tractors because they were higher than they were long, had the wheel base of a Volkswagon, and up here in Canada in the winter you really had to be careful on snowy or icy roads or they'd spin around on you like the knob on a shit house door. I often pulled empty 'sets of trains' (two 20' containers in an A-train configuration) to Montreal, QC with it...and that's where I really learned to drive.

Great video of the truck! The cupping of the dual tires happens on single axle tractors and straight trucks. As the tires start wearing down the crown of the road is always forcing the rear axle toward the ditch side. Thus, creating the cupping of the tires. I’ve purchased a pile of tires over the last 30 years. Love the sound of that Detroit.

As an old truck driver and mechanic the cupping in rear is more than likely due to miss matched tires, drove a 8 v 71 for years.rebuilt it once put larger injectors in used marine not for road but awesome power. Probably a old snider doubles truck with that motor and single screw. I really miss my Detroit but 2 cycle engines have lots of blowbye I've seen guys mount a container under the bye pass tube. I can answer any questions you have

$4000 for that truck is cheap as . If that was Australia it would be close to 20. I can"t believe how cheaper things are over there . I'm thinking of getting an American truck imported as a project to restore.. Some glossy black diamond padded vinyl would look great in the sleeper. Great job so far.

Nice videos of your Astro! We always had trouble with inside tire wear on the single axle trucks. The wear was from our country roads slowly sinking close to the shoulder/ditch therefore creating a round road surface wearing the inside tires due to them carrying most of the weight. I always assumed the cupping was from the single axle trucks turning much sharper than the tandem trucks, the shortest turning trucks always had the most cupping. If you rotate the tires swap the R inside and the L outside, and so on.

Nice looking/sounding truck. Bob tailing and getting 8 MPG is very good. I can assure you if you were pulling a regular trailer your fuel mileage would drop fast to about 4 MPG. Those 2 stroke Detroits do tend to smoke when cold, pulling a loaded trailer they usually clear up pretty fast. Hope you make a few more videos of this truck. Good luck sir 😊

Pros of a cabover is the superior turning radius and better visibility. Understandable why they dominate in Europe considering the countries there are so much smaller than The USA. Cons? They can get real rough riding. You don't want to be in a head-on collision inside one. And... having to actually tip the cab OVER to do maintenance on the engine.

I am delivering a sermon to you 🙏😊 please read Consistently Pray for forgiveness, guidance in a good (positive) direction, and for help against evil. Pray to be saved from hell (whatever that may be). Pray for your friends and your family too, it only takes a minute or so/less at a time to pray. Do it and your life will slowly get better, or maybe quickly. It probably just depends on you and the kind of person you are/have been. Don't wait until its too late and you have to suffer the consequences of built up bad karma from immoral acts/unrepented sins. Maybe together we can help make the world a better place by changing ourselves for the better, and changing things around us for the better. And addressing/thanking the CREATOR, LORD GOD at the beginning and end of your prayers would be a good idea 😊 Or just be my friend if you don't want to say the prayer 😄 I'm trying to help you get right with the LORD 🙏 Amen. I have worded a short prayer for you to say if you are not sure what words to use, it may not be the best but here it is 😊 '' CREATOR, LORD GOD, Please forgive me and my friends and my family for our immoral acts, please help guide us in a positive direction and please help us against evil. Please save us from Hell and have mercy on our souls. Thank you CREATOR, LORD GOD. Amen. '' Please say this at least once a day for at least a month, do it longer if you want to and can 🙏 You should prostrate yourself if you don't want to do spoken prayer, or do both 🙏😊 Please worship the LORD GOD and not any idol. Please put your hands together 🙏 bow your head and say this prayer: "CREATOR, LORD GOD, please know that I worship you and not any idols. Thank you for everything CREATOR, LORD GOD. That’s possibly an old allied van line truck or a TNT freight hauler with that orange paint. I use to see alot of those years ago on the road in the 70s and 80s hauling moving vans. That truck is definitely a survivor and inanely good shape for the year. And by the way , I drove trucks for over 40 yrs, us real truck drivers don’t float gears!! So use the clutch nothing floats in a transmission!! Its not how many times you get it right its the one time you don’t that will ruin your mainshaft!!

I'd say Allied, since bedbuggers tend to use those single axle tractors.
