Of all the ones you swatched here, I would take the W&N one, which I bought when first starting out, thinking I would need it. But over the years I have come to enjoy mixing my own olive greens instead.

The Winsor Newton and Lukas ones are lovely and look the most accurate to my eyes, but, as you say, the other ones are not at all what I would call a proper olive tone. Rembrandt has a nice olive green, but my favourite olive green is by Daler Rowney.

I make a pan every time I buy a new tube of paint so I can take them with me for easy travel and my M. Graham Olive Green is kept in the same container that I keep all my browns in. LOL, it really is a beautiful color for landscapes and very dimensional brown eyes if you can just stop thinking of it as Olive Green!

I use the WN olive green. Nice, lightfast pigments. I'd say the only downside is that it's not a highly pigmented colour, so not great for mixing, as easily swamped by other colours. Olive is really a convenience colour. More fun to mix your own! 😁😁. Loving this Channel BTW

That's a seriously orange PY154 Van Gogh must have 🧐 The Mission Gold one sadly lost some of its red undertone in my lightfastness test, so it becomes less "olive-y", which is sad, because I'm a hard core fan of that acidity 😁

@@JayNathanWatercolor Yes, I would assume so. It wasn't visible in the first 4 months of testing but shows up clearly after 8 months. (Same with my PG8 sample, btw). I'm trying to make sure my test strips eventually will get a full year of sun (a bit tricky here in Sweden 😅), and that they are in a gradient. It's very interesting to see how some colors are strongly affected from mid to light washes! Something that has surprised me is that some colours in my test seem to perform slightly worse than in other people's tests. I wonder if that's due to batch differences or something else. We do have sun much longer in the day during summers, but our overall UV levels aren't as high as in most other places - perhaps I just need to learn more about it.

what sucks is when you get fade on supposedly LF colors.... napthol red could be expected. but sometimes you get wildcards, and it can be exhausting trying to figure out what's safe..... =___= or when colors are only testing masstone and not tints. which makes NO sense in watercolor. :(

I have just watched so many of your videos, and they are SUPER! Truly so helpful. You will have hundreds of thousands of views. They are helpful to a wide range of skill levels. Even professional artists need to get a glimpse of what other people are doing and the materials they are using. The way you compare and commentate is excellent. For beginners or intermediate painters, it is too costly to buy all these paints to see what you like. I have made several new decisions from watching that I never would have been able to figure out on my own. Don’t stop! Your ideas are very different from everything else on You Tube. I am grateful for your time, opinion, experience, and expense.

So strange that the Olive Green on my Mijello dot card is actually not as yellowish as yours but very close to your Lukas Olive Green color on my screen. Wonder if they have changed the color.... and your comment at the beginning, I actually was having the same thought too before watching your review that Olive Green may be a nice mixing color for all the other greens that look too unnatural 😄

The only Olive Green I have is Kuretake (No. 54 - I don't have the pigment info.) It's a little bit opaque, but the colour is good for background foliage and trees. The Van Gogh Azomethine Yellow Green works well as an Olive Green. Your assessment of the more greeny and brown Olive Greens is spot on in my opinion. My favourite would be the Winsor and Newton. Your favourite seems a bit too green for me. Mind you olives come in various shades of green and other colours too!

Definitely prefer the bottom row cause the last 3 on top just look like permanent green and MGraham looks like new baby diaper color. I think depending on the sunlight the bottom 3 would be great . I have never bought an olive but use the py150 in my mix for sure. Thank you again. I have painted olive leaves once and one side hits the light and looks silvery. It would be a lovely project again to try to capture that. It is beautiful with the way the twisted trees grow.

@@JayNathanWatercolor I think you have to find a reason to paint only with the different Olive Green that you have.. Maybe you like the very yellow and brown olive greens when they are diluted with a lot of water. It's quite similar with Green Gold because the mass tone don't look nice at all but it shines when it's diluted with quite a lot of water. With some pigments or multi-pigment colors you have to be careful. They can look weird in the mass tone.

The Lukas by a long way…. I do like a couple of DS colours that are similar to olive green, Green apatite genuine and serpentine genuine, but have no idea how they would compare on a test like this. I am baffled by the Schmincke versions, I can only think it’s part of their uniform description for schools or military or something and has no reference at all to the fruit! I like botanical and animal subjects as well as landscape and all of these green would have their uses. I do like that browny coloured mix but doubt I would use it for anything normally classed as green but would use it for other things, tree trunks maybe! This review tells me what I shall not be looking for next time I want to paint a reptile. I think Lukas are quite an underated brand, people say they are chalky, but I like the way they paint out….
