Ойын-сауық

In episode two more compulsive cleaners will be carefully matched with someone whose home is in dire need of a major spring clean.
Adam, who is obsessed with symmetry and balance, is heading to Buckinghamshire to help Helen who lives with her dog and two cats. I was literally just thinking that 😂 I like things to be neat and tidy, but I’m not super obsessed with symmetry, or when something has been cleaned once, it’ll only be cleaned again whenever it gets dusty/dirty again! I feel like you’d have to have loss of time on your hands to get that obsessive…

It’s really exploiting the polar opposites that these conditions result in. Hoarders are being exploited just as much and they’re getting defensive because they feel judged by the OCD people. It’s going to cause a clash no matter what because seeing how uncomfortable the OCD people are will naturally make the hoarders get defensive and embarrassed.

One does not need to be clinically OCD at all to be repulsed or gag on entering that bathroom. What kind of 'gentleman' keeps his bathroom like that?! It was actually comical to see Frank consoling Denise. It is Frank who deserves our pity and not her. It is not right that people like Frank and Helen inflict their lifestyle choice of living in squalor on their family and friends who would want to visit and check on him occasionally. It is inconsiderate and unkind. Their affliction actually affects others, while the OCD only bothers the ones that have it, if at all.

The stress and anxiety and really intrusive thoughts can eat away at a person and cause them to lose relationships and friendships. Sometimes people with OCD do not allow people into their car or homes from fear of others contaminating their space. Please don't assume that OCD doesn't bother people around the one with the condition. I think if Im going to choose, I'd rather have OCD. They seem a lot more in control, happy and busy. As to myself, sometimes my depressiom makes me buy things that I dont need, then once I realized it's suffocating me even more, I'll get rid of them. Then later on, feel empty again. It's a cycle. It's like I'm buying things so that I can get rid of them and feel that I accomplished something. Whereas with people with OCD it seems they have a purpose, things can easily distract them and focus on those. In contrast of me that as days go by, it's getting more and more difficult for me to focus. I need to rest for a long time before I can go back and face my life, work etc.

I think it is hard for families and they just do not know where to start. Often also the elderly will insist they do not need help, purely through embarrassment. For all we know he might not have children of his own to help as it was a niece who came to look at the house .... As you will have seen also at the very end of the video he has now arranged for a cleaner, so his home will be enjoyable for him and if any family come to visit.

So bad he couldn’t open the front door from all the post, eventually you couldn’t see the front door from the garden overgrowing! It was actually on one of these programmes 🙈🙊 his family apparently had no idea. We never saw any family and we never saw him, but his house was like that and getting worse over two decades! To help someone, that person has to acknowledge the problem and want a solution. And sometimes that does not happen. My father has never been particularly concerned with cleanliness, he is now 80, increasingly rapidly descending into senile dementia, a widower (and his wife was not exactly the queen of clean either, they were both indifferent and oblivious on that subject), and simply does not see nor care about keeping his house reasonably clean. Last summer I spent 7 hours cleaning his kitchen, throwing away moldy food, scrubbing his hot water kettle, his cooking range, his dish draining rack, washing the floor, cleaning the rubbish bin. I found a 10 cms rim of fly eggs waiting to hatch inside that bin, along with a nice crop of maggots. And his answer was to attack me and accuse me of throwing organic matter in the bin because he "recycles everything and never throws food in the bin, it goes to compost" (meaning he keeps leftover scraps of food in a dish on the counter, raising its own crop of bugs, until he can take them to his compost bin in the garden of our family home, 15 kms away from where he lives). So my 2 tea bags were supposedly responsible for an insect infestation sufficient to provide a science lab with enough specimen for a year... And by the way, he absolutely did not notice that everything was suddenly and magically clean in his kitchen... My sister and I try our best to help him, but no matter what we say, he simply does not care, and is even prone to angry outbursts when confronted with the filth he lives in. So whenever we go see him, we do what we can to clean up, simply because eating food coming out of his fridge and cooked in his pots and pans gives us the creeps, but we know it's a losing battle. And an exhausting one, when we try to take care of someone who has given up, does not care and does not want to change his ways. And since we are "just his daughters", our opinion does not count, but worse, he is now past caring what others may think or say.

I am not in an extreme level of OCD, but I do have a couple of things that make people give me the side eye sometimes, when they catch me "adjusting stuff" (specific way to set the table for meals, towels hanging folded on a particular way, can't stand seeing different colored hangers, the way I fold my clothes into drawers, etc.). But I do not mind seeing a little dust, cat hair or an unmade bed halfway through the week - a home has to be lived in order be loved as well. I do wish I would meet someone struggling with a mild hoarding or uncleaningless and help them through it all! :)

How could you not help your uncle clean his house for 10 YEARS!!! A decade of letting him live like that! It's baffling. I am so happy that Frank is now in better living conditions, he deserves it. Super happy he has a cleaner coming in once a week.

I love seeing the 2 extremes come together and the compassion each have for the other. They are 2 sides to the same coin. I tend towards minimalism and clutter and dirt make me feel unwell. I had a friend who had hoarding tendencies, and I just thought she was lazy but I can see it was mental health-related and that she simply didn't see her dirt and clutter as an issue.

I seriously get the feeling that Adam and Helen might have actually become friends and I really want that question to be answered! Really sweet giving her a make over as well! Helen ought to embrace her skin as well! I'm not saying cake her in make up, but get some natural skincare going on. She's already gone from looking 60 to about 50, but she could get away with mid 40's honestly. The subway kind of frustrates me cuz the floor didn't look clean at the end. I'd have done more for it.

OCD is not j́ust someone who is extremely clean. It’s a mental disorder that makes people do these things like clean or flip the light switch 7 times because their mind tricks them that something bad will happen if they don’t. These people feel like they lose control when they don’t do these compulsions. So yeah I understand that touching their face is unhygienic but it’s for them more about control and everything in the right place. I hope you understand x
