2017 Obsessive Compulsive Country House Cleaners S08E02

The cleaners head for the Welsh hills and Brithdir Hall, a 16th-century, Grade II-listed mansion with a loo which hasn't been cleaned in years. Can the place be spruced up in a week?

I lived for a over tear in skid row beside the worst ghetto. I had no where else and I made clean and nice. I always felt it was how I lived not where I lived. I now have a great career, a row house far from them, a college degree and you would never know.

I hate how a person standing on his own two feet, no mental or physical illness or disability and having a big lazy ass to sit and only read newspaper can’t clean his own house and asks others to come clean it and shamelessly asks them to not use bleach. Even dogs clean the spot by wagging their tail before sitting. We are humans with head on our shoulders, why can’t we keep our living spaces clean and hygienic? 🤷‍♀️

So it's time for those "class" of ppl to get off their asses & do things for themselves!!

Well, they are insulting the way he lives, degrading him, at every chance they get. They may be right, but its not exactly inviting friendly behavior. He's just as stuck in his way as these clean people. I, honestly, quite like his personality. Also, my gosh, let him keep his dead grandmother's clothes. I wear both of my grandmothers' clothes often (two very different generations btw), so he's not wrong about ladies fashion, not even to mention the sentimental or eventual collectors value of them (they were in quite nice condition). I'm glad they didn't keep pressing him on it.

I have to laugh at this point (23 minutes in) so I don't cry! Jeremy is refusing to remove the dog droppings; using the excuse that it is his son's responsibility to do so & if it is done for him the boy will expect it to be done for him in future. Well, using his lame reasoning, the cleaners should stop the clean up & let Jeremy take on his responsibility to clean his own home, because he will expect others to do it each time it needs attention. Works both ways, Jeremy!

Yes, Cricket, I felt the exact same thing, but at the end of the show that's exactly what Jeremy does ~ he hires cleaners. Jeremy used the show to get his house clean to get the ball rolling on his shooting party scheme. That way he got the house clean without him having to do it because I'll bet a cookie to a donut he could not afford to hire help to clean the pig sty wherein he was living with his 15-year-of-age son.

Some of them do. Hoarding has a diagnosis (of a particular sort, there is a spectrum of hoarders) and some have depression or anxiety disorders that make it too hard for them to clean. I mean, no one normal gets a house this messy, it's not "laziness", there is always an underlying reason. The ones who actually need the help the most, that is, the help will not go to waste and get messy again instantly, is probably the ones diagnosed with depression or anxiety since they don't have the compulsion to keep getting more stuff like classic hoarders, they just got overwhelmed and then their depression/anxiety made them shut down so they can't face it and it piles up. A vicious cycle thing. If they get help, they're more likely to be able to "exit" the cycle-- the true hoarders may or may not, with therapy, but generally they often will just start buying more crap to bring into their house.

If a dog is peeing like that, it needs to be taken to the vet. It could be issues with it urinary system and could be as serious as having problems with its kidneys. We found this to be true with our cocker spaniel. Cocker spaniels are a breed of dog that have been know to especially have problems with their kidneys and thyroids. The owner is ignoring the dog's care as much as he is ignoring the care of his house. Shameful.

As a nurse, this reminds me of nearly every house I go into to take care of patients. In one house, their toilet was so bad I had to bring my own paper towels, spray cleaner, and toilet paper. And before I could even think of using their toilet it had to clean it first! Then I had to watch the placement of my feet because there was soiling on the carpet surrounding the toilet. YACK! I now wear surgical booties in nasty houses like these, and I change them throughout the shift.

Jeremy says that his Grandmother kept the house in an immaculate condition & that he wishes "we" could get it back to that same condition. I wonder who the "we" is? I say to Jeremy, "Get off your posterior, roll up your sleeves, & get cleaning!" I have been accused by British friends of being "houseproud" = I keep a clean home. However, there is no way that I would subject myself to cleaning such filth for a lazy loafer like Jeremy.

The house did need some deep cleaning for sure! The conditions are totally inexcusable, I am with the ODC cleaners on this one for sure! But the structure of the place had me worried the most. Holes in the ceiling, plaster falling, leaking through the roof, structure braces in the sitting room etc. That is deadly for a house that is 500 years old?! 16th century is the era of the 1500's, just think how long the structure has been there. If not kept up, old wood will rot, collapse, and fall in hurting or killing someone in the process. Some major repair work needs to be done, that is what is scary to me the most!

Vinnie is AWESOME. The house was absolutely filthy, but he accommodated and stayed the first night, even bringing his own food so he can eat and bathing outside. He met and compromised where he could, and he held Jeremy accountable for his actions. And I love how he tackles it from a point of safety, not just specifically hygiene. I wish more country home owners on this show understood that from the get-go when the cleaners come. Update, 36 minutes in: Not sure if someone picked up on this, but it appears that Jeremy is sexist. When talking to Lindsay about the cleaning, he is condescending, authoritative, brushes her off, and is unwilling to compromise. But when talking to Vinnie, he is much more calm, thoroughly explains, is willing to compromise, and even agrees with him. When Lindsay explains how uncomfortable she is, he takes no responsibility and makes excuses to get out of helping, but when Vinnie states his discomfort, it's immediately, "Okay lemme pitch in." That's not okay. Again, maybe it's that they have two different tones, but the fact that it seems like he prioritizes Vinnie over Lindsay, when both are trying to help save his home, is horrible.

My bathroom was not really dirty, because twice a week I clean. If not really dirty, it is faster to clean. Especially since small now. More time for life. To clean obsessively would be odd...except for vacuuming. I do that at least 4 to 5 times a week, but I do not move furniture each time. I need a life, too. Lol.
