Can I just love on bens kind nature and personality here? I think he took the brunt or everything here. He helped Lindsey’s fear of birds even though maybe he himself might not be afraid of them. Had to deal with her anxious and controlling ways and play peacemaker. Had to face his own ocd 24/7 since he had to sleep in a different bed which causes high anxiety for him And on top of all that also dealt with the clutter and cleaning / his own frustrations with the progress without losing his temper once! This man deserves a medal.

Really nice guy, he was totally out of his depth with the house & doing his best with what he'd been lumbered with - years of neglect & mountains of stuff. He seemed lonely & quite sad & I'm very sorry to read he died not long after the episode was aired. Hope his children have happy memories of him as he clearly loved them & wanted to do better for them.

My heart bleeds for this elderly man, he was so patient and understanding, all he did was make attempts to feed his kids. They were making him throw away things he deemed sentimental, he probably left to clear his head or cry somewhere. You can't tell an elder to "shut up" Lindsey was extremely rude and the title is very misleading. RIP to Collin.

it was not even sentimental. These people came to "clean" and were specifically asked to clear with owner any items they would mark as "garbage" than threw away silver hand mirror and attempted to threw away 2000 pounds worth Piranesi "because it was damaged". I mean these people have no concept of historical value, too focused on themselves and are more interested in creating drama around them than actually helping struggling people. And the whole "shut up" incident. She scold the OWNER of the house for leaving for 15 minutes, questions his upbringing and knowing of etiquette, calling the situation "a disgrace". And than talks about disrespect. Jeez some people RIP Mr Colin Peck

in the UK they say "shut up" as a way to express disbelief, its like saying "WHAT!?". She was not telling him to shut up, she was expressing disbelief and is not usually considered rude. P: "Jenny is pregnant with quintuplets again." A:"shut up!" P: "Ask her yourself if you don't believe me"

Hoarding is actually a form of OCD too that cannot be ignored ! The thoughts that you are somehow defiling memories but throwing things away? But hoarding is more to do with loss and grief and he was indeed a very sad man out of his depth with the maintenance of the house, and still grieving for his brother. So sad to hear he died after this show , those two beautiful kids with no Dad . I guess when you have been stepping around landmines a bit of dust and clutter isn’t the most terrifying, I guess it’s all relative! I think Ben is definitely a middle child- the peace keeper and person pleaser ?

Honestly I'm with Lindsey on this. If someone is helping with something you clearly struggle you should at least give a try and a helping hand. They are not on his payroll, taking the time from their own life and children and can't even bother to show some respect. As someone with OCD myself, the amount of effort it must have taken her to enter that mess of a house and touch those disgusting surroundings, the LEAST I would expect is some respect.

The cleaners were hurting themselves, with their disorder being recorded cleaning other people's dirty houses. But the only person who was "rude" was Lindsey IMHO - because it's also hurting for the owner, having strangers over and touching all your stuff. Cleaners often forget that and make everything personal to themselves, especially if they have a disorder. Everybody had a load of pressure / stress. But Ben, amazing how he fixed it all, top notch! The Owner did effort and so did Lindsey. Respect? Bitching to the owner of his mess wasnt respectful, if it was for Lindsey, she would had thrown everything out. Basically throwing a life away (or even lives) just to satisfy her phobia for just cleaning. But she came around, thanks to the Amazing Ben and everything ended well for that TV show. Everybody did their effort and I've seen respect towards everybody, in the same amount. Gratitude came after the work was done. Had this happened to me too, I had a fight with the cleaners as well, but at least they understood where it came from and why, afterworth, all was well and showed gratitude and upmost respect. The only thing I did was guarding my important stuff being thrown away and sorting things out. (like what Colin did) Sadly they did manage to throw a lot important and precious stuff away anyways, but the end result made me very forgiving. The moment you await / expect respect, you gonna get dissappointed a lot in life. RIP Mr Colin Peck

Maybe he could have just said he was popping out for dinner for the kids but I don't think lindsay should have spoken to him in that manner in his house. I would have asked her to leave if that was me. I have watched a lot of these episodes and quite often the home owners don't seem to help much. They should at least help somewhat as it is their home. OK so the owner needed to be so much more clear and detailed about WHY they can't chuck stuff - I can see valuable heritage items which restorers would go mad for.. make a restore pile for goodness sake, put the washing in the machine and then dryer.. if you just bin bag it then it will sit until later. one room with restorable items is organised, plus a booking fir someone someone inspect it and fix

I understand why channels require eye catching titles, but to call the owner of this home rude is unfair. Colin was actually a really nice bloke and innocently went off the shop for 15 minutes, without thinking of saying anything. He spoke to Ben and Lynsey kindly and had the decency to apologise for his mistake. Ben and Lynsey came across lovely in this episode and did a great job.

I really think the title of this video is an insult. Firstly: Obviously, as other commentators point out, was Mr. Colin Peck not the one being rude, he was the one who was unnecessarily attacked by a cleaner overstepping the boundaries of common courtesy. Secondly: He died a month later after this episode aired. I would imagine this whole thing was a contributing factor to his heart attack - please show some respect to a deceased persons reputation, if not the truth.

Exposure can be successful, but it have to be done the right way. It needs to be done slowly, and in steps, with respect that some people take longer than others. I do believe that it is important to fight your fears though, I have worked a lot with my own, and continue to do so. Because fears do limit you in life. The one thing that my head can not get round is when people have OCD about dirty and touching dirt but yet are happy to sit in the bath to get clean when its filled with water that has EVERY SINGLE bit of all the dirt you have come into contact with and you are washing your hair, face and body with it then sit back in the water to relax. It’s like inviting an alcoholic to a drinking show to expose him to alcohol and then have him drink. They’re treating ocd like some sort of cleaning superpower, it’s like telling the alcoholic it’s a superpower to be able to drink so much so often. It’s an illnesses not a superpower, just because it looks healthy to you on the outside because things get clean, doesn’t mean this illness isn’t absolute torture for the ones who have it.
