If you have a reloader like a Dillon 550C you could set up a reload plate for and just have it there, I'm for it. You may be needing a new holster, and for that I love Milt Sparks Inc. Garden City, Idaho.

I would go with the 475 if it also shoots 480 Ruger. My local store has Buffal bore 480 Ruger on hand. There is something about the versatility AND the ease of buying off the shelf. I know you are into hand loading. The 475 would give you the best of both worlds of loading or buying over the counter. And you could experience both cartridges and do videos on both 475 and 480. If you go with BFR or similar size firearm it is more packable than the X frame guns. Therefore more likely to Not be a " Left it gun." Left it in the p/u or left it at Home. Increasing your satisfaction because you will have it with you while you are having other adventures like camping, hunting and hiking. A custom Linebough would give the most satisfaction and probably worth the wait. Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.

😂 Gun nut! I’m doing the complete opposite! I’ve been missing having a practical boomer and still have a mess of 44 mag brass from my Sass days. (Took alittle while to buy a .45 colt rifle vs my short 44 rifle) I thought I was a done with 44 mag and I guess maybe I am, bought a 69 but don’t want to mix my 44 special brass between different firearms. I vote for one of the 500’s. There’s nothing like slinging a half inch of lead down range at a time. Penetration will rank a hair over unstoppable and at lower pressure than the 475/480. On the other hand 475 brass has been available lately and the 480 could use some love to keep the durn thing alive. It’s a hard thing loving big bores these days. Final thought, I’d get the .500 linebaugh!

Plowboys Ghost my absolute favorite is my 460V X-frame five inch muzzle brake equipped full lug barrel revolver. Of course, I customized it to shoot 45 ACP with TK Custom stainless steel moon clips. And that same moon clip also holds and fires 460 Rowland, 45 Super and 45 Winchester magnum using Starline brass. The 460S&W magnum, 454 Casull, ALL loads of 45 Colt and 45 Schofield rimmed cartridges all shoot well too. I had an extra long firing pin installed from Cylinder and Slide so no moon clip is necessary to reliably shoot rimmed cartridges. I wanted it for ultimate versatility. I use the muzzle brake for cast bullet use because it seals the ports on the top of the barrel and extends the brake out in front of the front sight. Making it like a true shooting 5 inch barrel. And it shoots jacketed bullets just as well.

I got a 475 linebaugh wbich I found takes a while for me to get back on target for the 2nd shot. I had Freedom Arms bore a 480 Ruger cylinder and that made it perfect for me. 480 has less recoil but can be loaded as hot as 475 (or I could put the 475 cyl. back in), don't have to worry about leading up from shooting shorter brass with hard cast bullets. If the 500 JRH had been out when I bought my 475, I might have chosen that. Recoil is about like 475, I hear, but more manageable. Anyway, I am happy with what I got. Good luck!

I understand wanting something for the sake of having it, but you probably are already aware that John Linebaugh himself carried a S&W Model 25-5 with a 4" barrel more than anything else. He said that extra velocity gets you flatter trajectory but not necessarily better terminal performance when using cast hunting bullets. I am torn between the .357 Magnum and the .45 Colt as my favorite revolver cartridge but I will say that you already have an adequate tool for most jobs. I would save my money and seriously consider the implications of setting up to reload a new caliber that you don't already have an investment in. Loading tools are getting seriously expensive and getting your money back out of them in savings is not easy to do unless you actually use the caliber on a regular basis. Anyway, happy shopping!

My first impulse would be to ask why get rid of a time honored, bear proven gun like a 44 mag in the first place, that is unless you're selling it to use the funds for something bigger and better. That said if it were me getting one of those big bores I'd go with the 454 casual because if I'm not mistaken they can also shoot 45 lc, and a good 454 round is twice as powerful as a good 44 mag round. All that aside I don't think one of my dream guns even exists. It would be a peacemaker clone in 454 casual.

I picked the 500 linebaugh as my 50 cal, technically 51 cal but to be my top end big bore one and done. If you don't want to wait for the 500 and have to spend more especially on brass, then go for a BFR in 500 JRH. Brass would be a lot easier to come by. Bullets too for that matter. solid 50 cal single action with easier reloading capability. Good luck with whatever you decide on!

As for the 50 calibers I'm not sure witch one I would go with, their all very capable and I'm sure fun. I know your not wanting another 45, but the 460 has some pluses to it, your using some of the same bullets you use in the 45 colt, can help with the coast, you can shot 45 colt, 454 and 460 all in the 460 chamber, makes it a bit more versatile than other big boars, yes a hot 45 colt is very close to the 454 depending on load and the 460 goes up a bit more, and if ammo gets very hard to find you have three cartridges you can grab that will wok in your gun. Just some thoughts. What ever to go with it will be fun.

I have been listening to you for years and finally decided to offer my two cents worth. A number of years ago I went to a range with a buddy and he brought a 1911 and he shot an aluminum can and it dented the can but didn't puncture it. I was astounded because he didn't reload so this was factory ammo. My little 380 ppk had no problem with it. That is when I decided I didn't need a 45 ACP. i have several 45 Colt, several 45-70, and 30-30 but stay with common calibers nothing fancy since I don't reload. I only have 2 handgun in 9 mm and none in 10 mm, or any other heavy hitter. I don't like recoil so prefer heavier handguns and rifles and older cartridges.. I respect your opinion quite a bit as well as the Adventure Cowboy but since I no longer hunt and never pistol hunted I have no need for many semi autos or large calibers. I prefer single action revolvers like Colt and Remington clones. I am sure you have way more than me but cartridge conversion revolvers are what I enjoy most.

Love both my Ruger 44 mag Alaskan and 454 casull. A S&W 500 in 3.5 would be collector item in my opinion. A desire only. (mine to) Practical for anything in the north east, no. Range toy yes, but most of my big bore guns are. The range is for enjoyment. Live life with a smile and enjoy. This is a Cicada hatch year. Take Care my friend. Time to drink some whiskey...

I'm afraid those guns are too big for me. Nature strung me together out of sticks and jerky, and no amount of weight lifting is going to change that.

I guess Platform size, weight, and barrel specifications will be the deciding factor. Once you have that down, then which Caliber combination offers you the most over what you can do with what you already have?.....out of the platform design you have chosen. Looking for the most versitile combo? Or the most power? Or the most available? Theres your answer. Its hard to fit everything I want into one gun. Usually I like one thing from this one, and one thing from that one..lol but it's fun to play with the idea.

Why big bores? I thought the 41 Magnum replaced your 44’s . As someone with similar taste in Hand guns, I feel that you would not be happy with a short barrel 500 Magnum. I don’t see any point in it. Your Ruger 45 Colt would be just as effective and is more practical due the loss of velocity and the excess weight. Plus, only 5 shots. 475 Limbaugh might be fun as it is different. I remember your video on the 480 Ruger a while back and the research you did on developing a load for it to match the 475. I thought that was pretty cool.

I believe Mr. linebaugh could run heavier bullets through the 500 at less chamber pressure than the 475. I also seem to remember that there is a 480 blackhawk available. From a convenience standpoint, 500 linebaugh and 480 Ruger brass is available from starline. Go big or Go home. Good luck choosing.

If I had more money than sense, I would buy the BFR in 475 Linebaugh, have the barrel cut to 5 1/2" . Then you could use some of that nice wood you have on hand and personalized your grips. You would then have an awesome 475 Linebaugh / 475 Linebaugh Special ( I mean 480 Ruger 😅)!

I only own one .44 mag, a 7.5 Ruger redhawk. Nice enough and accurate, but to wear it on my waist would make me walk in circles. Needs are easy to understand, wants are much harder. Honestly I'd try to buy a 629 with a 3" barrel, and leave it at that. Which is why I'm not you. ;) If you want maximum power , I would ask you at what range? Then go through the cartridges and find one that matches your requirements.

Look at the costs right now. Everything is so high. Powder is becoming very scarce primers very scarce so trying to figure out what would be the cheapest way to go and still get the horsepower that you need

Hey plowboy I want to pick your brain on something. Just got into the single actions with a frontier in 45 colt but now I want a bear gun cuz my wife and go to Colorado twice or thrice a year. I was thinking maybe a super blackhawk but I also I don’t want to have to buy 44 mag. You think a 45 colt Blackhawk loaded hot would suffice?

For all practical purposes, there isn't much you can't do with a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt. A custom big bore cartridge revolver niche is where my need of a shotgun or carbine begins. Whatever you get, it would be beneficial if it was available in a levergun also. Especially since you want a 5' barrel. .454 Casull is the largest centerfire revolver I've owned before. It was a hand full!

Didn't you have a Super Blackhawk in .480 a while back? What ever happened to it? Personally that would be what I'd go to if I wanted something heavier than my .44 mag. That's my two cents, anyway.
