Not gonna lie, that big Ruger is a pretty gun.
The original Vaquero was made for cowboy action shooting but they complained it was too heavy that's why they come out with a new model Vaquero I appreciate your videos
The Colts look, carry, and handle in their own unique way. They're perfect fighting guns and not slouches against animals. The Rugers have their own beauty (especially in blue) and as you said stand on their own merits of strength and adaptability from target use all the way up to big game.
Great video! 👍Man Killer vs Bear Killer. Both have their purpose. I made a video criticizing Ruger single actions but I was really talking about the "New Vaquero" which is an attempt to improve the Colt SAA/clone design. I respect the Black Hawks and Old/Original Vaqueros!

That's how I see it. The large framed Rugers aren't in competition with Colt clones, so they stand on their own merits and capabilities.

Way cool! Congratulations!
I understand exactly where you're coming from on this. I see no confusion at all. It's like comparing a digital camera that looks like an older style camera that shoots film. They might look similar, but people buy them and use them for different purposes.
I didn't think you were unclear at all. You were crystal clear on the differences.
You don’t need to clarify. But I have a couple of the smaller frame vaqueros. One is a .44 Special marked “Vaquero “ and a later gun in .45 Colt/.45 ACP marked “New Vaquero”. But I also replaced the hammers on both with a Bisley hammer. Much better.
I don’t know shit about Ruger as I’ve never owned one, but you talk the talk! I’ve always wanted a 3 screw Blackhawk, hopefully I’ll find one some day. FYI..nice looking pistols ya got there!
I recently realized the difference between Vacqueros. Thanks!
Southern brother,.. I liked that you didn’t put down what may be anybody else’s favorite revolver!… We wheel gunners gotta stick together.👌💪
My first SSA Clone was a 22 LR Heritage Rough Rider and I love it. Now when I bought Mine Heritage was an Independent Company. They're now Under the Taurus Umbrella so I don't know if the Quality is the Same or not. it's got an Indexed Cylinder and I love that too. the Thing that Gives me Pause about some of the Modern Ruger like the Wrangler and The Super Wrangler is Ruger's Free Spin Cylinder. Ultimately I know it's not a Big Deal really. I just like the whole Old School like Loading Process and to Me it adds a lot to the Experience of Shooting the Gun.
You dont owe me no explanation brother. You are 100% correct in what you said. I understood what you was saying. I think i screwed up and confused you in what i was saying lol. As usual brother you are 110% spot on and correct.

We all do that!
Its completely understandable. And I would agree
You’re spot on. A lot of people wouldn’t know the difference. As you said, the Vaquero is not a SAA clone.
My Cimarron colt clone is what I shoot live ammo with, my two (older style) Ruger Vaqueros have been turned into speen action guns for fast draw, as they hold up really well for those uses.
You make good sense to me. Now me, I would rather have the Ruger Old Frame Vaquero or a New Model Blackhawk. Because I want the ability to shoot Plus P should I find myself in the situation. Like the ability to shoot .38 Special in a .357 Magnum. Just how I look at it. Thank You, Sir!
I completely understand.
I have full confidence in you, and you gave a great explanation! Shoot on my friend!
Man I've been watching your videos for years now and still love your stuff. Keep on with the videos. And with all the revolvers I got, I still don't have a bisley grip! Thanks for the inspiration, I'll be shopping gunbroker tonight, lol.
You were very clear. I own a Cimmeron clone but looking to buy my bear gun in either 45 Colt or 44 Mag, still deciding. Im down to a 45 Blackhawk and a Super RedHawk.
Perfectly Clear and Agreed upon.
I too have a hard time with the way that both Vaquero models are referred. I like the idea of calling the original Vaquero a first gen (generation) and the new Vaquero a second gen model. This has been done in motorcycles for years and has worked well with little confusion. I do my CAS (cowboy action shooting) with first gen 357/38 Vaqueros and I have a first gen 45 Vaquero. I like the feel of the heavier guns and as long as I am beating my earlier records in the matches, then I am happy. I don't need the most tricked out, fastest shooting revolver to enjoy myself. With the first gen Vaqueros. I know that I can shoot most any strength round that I want without worry. Cowboy loads when I am on the range and the more powerful loads when I feel like it. It's the best of both worlds in my book.
I've had a few Vaqueros but parted with them all. My five and a half inch Redhawk in Colt 45 is something else. I will never part with it, if I can't shoot it, it makes one hell of a club! 👍😂👍!!

That .45 Colt Redhawk may be on my list to ow one day.
Perfect explanation. Spot on.
Couldn’t agree more!
👍I Know Exactly What Your Talking About Plowboy👌 There's Hot Loads & Cowboy Action/Light Loads & Some Single Action Revolvers Can't Handle / Are Not Safe Firing/Shooting Hot Loads! 'EVERYBODY BE SAFE " AND DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE 'LOADING AMMO & PULLING THAT HAMMER BACK & PULLING THAT TRIGGER!
Max Prasac has written a book entitled “Handgun Hunting Revolvers” and the 45 Colt versus 44 magnum comparison in penetration the 44 magnum came out penetrating deeper than the heavy loaded 45 Colt. Not by much but that is what makes 44 magnum properly loaded my choice.
Ruger is a workhorse. SAA is craftmanship

Agreed 👍
I don't know what brought this on but I am the same way.Got the same remuda of single actions. The 7.5 inch vaquero is a tack driver. The new Vaquero is not that accurate, doesn't balance well for me and seems heavy compared to my Piettas. I could take or leave that new vaquero but love that Vaquero for its horsepower:). Have a good day and thanks for the video!
The only Rugers I like are the old, old ones that had the traditional action. My brother had a Blackhawk in the early 70s in 30 carbine.
understand and AGREE
What is the FPS on your Colt clones? Your custom worn out finish on that pistol is badass brother! Amen to you!
Love that trigger!! Great videos... keep 'em coming!!
I purchased a Vaquero in 1994. 5.5" barrel, blued, .45 caliber. Great shooter. I eventually sold it, and I kick myself now.
Well said
Very well said Bro. Honestly I think that many times people overestimate the need for high pressures and velocities but if you think you need it then by all means use the proper tool. But like you say the different tools are not in competition just like your 32s, 38s, and 44s are not in competition. Similarly your hammer is not in competition with your rake.
I’m got the Vaquero in 44mag but only shoot 44sp in it. My colt clones hold a special place in my collection. Great video I’m on the same page.
Well said !
Yes that's I been I've been a saying. The only difference is that I don't believe that with today's materials and technology there any excuse for not making the colt 73 or Remington 75 as strong as the ruger.
I love the 45 Colt, period! I miss my Ruger BH convertible, I love my Stoeger/ Uberti! 5.5 seems to be perfect for me!
There’s always room in the safe for another .45 Colt my man.
I love your videos.

Exceedingly kind of you...
Good video. I understand what you mean. All my revolvers that shoot 45 Colt have 4 clicks when I cock them, doesn't mean I wouldn't own a Ruger if the right one at the right price presented itself. Apples and oranges, both good fruit, lol.
I agree with ya brother. I'd like to see another video on the S&W 69 combat 🇺🇸
Plowboy , enjoy your channel, I just bought a used, new in box Traditions frontier style. 44mag , in a 4.75 in barrel, that being said , it's a transfer bar 1873 colt clone , in your opinion is it not capable of shooting a full .44 mag load?
They all might not be comparable but they're all lovely pistols'. I had to call them that because as you very well know, that's what they are. A lot of people today are way to dumb down to understand that. However, I know that you get it. I don't know why I prefer revolvers over automatics but I do. And I believe that's a big reason why I subbed your channel. That & the fact that you have a lovely, wife who's completely devoted to you. I hope you and your family are doing good. Thanks for explaining the differences in those 45's. I had no idea that they were so different. Stay loaded and keep safe my friend. Take good care.. Peace. Joe
Those SAA colt clones can still handle the 250gr semi wadcutter from Underwood loaded at 1000fps. That load is plenty to protect you!!!
Completly clear dude
Alabama Grizzlies sound like mean sunsabitches. I don't think you clouded the issue, I followed what you meant about each type of pistol. Have a great week.
I have to wonder, what difference there is between a colt and ruger grip frame? Find rugers difficult to hold.
Vaqueros, blackhawks and redhawks are super popular up here in Alaska. Many of my friends have the .45 colt buffalo bore in the deer grenage 260gr at 1526 fps out of a vaquero in a 5 -1/2 barrel or the 325 gr. L.B.T.-L.F.N. @ 1,325 fps/M.E. 1,267 ft.lbs.with the same pistol.

Yep. I've bought and shot both of those loads years ago. Awesome!
I think my two 3rd generation Colt 45 colts with the 5 1/2 in barrels will take anything here in the lower 48 states otherwise i'de be grabbing my 629-3 44 magnum Smith & Wesson !!!
Please explain why the NEW VAQUERO isn't as good as a Colt clone. I have one of each and prefer the NEW VAQUERO. Seems to be a better quality firearm

By some measures it's better. From a nostalgic stand point, it's not in the same league.
They absolutely SHOULD NOT allow the Ruger Vaquero in cowboy action matches...
Like you, I love both and they serve two very different purposes. On the animal I’ll guess 🐎 or 🐄

@@plowboysghost Have had the unfortunate burden of having to do that as well.
Same with me, bought a Colt clone cause it handles great, but bought a Blackhawk so I can hit what I shoot at without butchering the front sight.
The colt clones may not be as strong as the Rugers, but they can still get the job done. Elmer wrote about the Frontiersman using the 3rd model dragoons to hunt Buffalo. He wrote about one old timer who hunted california Grizzly, he would put out bait, climb a tree over the bait, when Grizz came in to feed, he would shoot down into grizzs head. If an old bp dragoon can do it, I know a modern clone saa can do it.

Well I have a 5 1/2 inch super Blackhawk 44 and I love it that’s all I own to compare 😊
What was that last gun you held up that was new/worn that you said took big animals? Are Uberti's larger than Cimarrons and Taylors? I love gaining SAA knowledge from you . I absolutely love them. RockOn.StayFree.
Great video. On your fixed sighted vaqueros did you ever have to turn the barrel or file the sight for point of aim ?

This one shoots dead on windage wise with my 23.5 gr H110/ 315 gr Lee load. Don't recall where mine in the past hit
I will make a statement about the new vaquero being a tool for which responsible children can learn to load/shoot the 45 colt cartridge safer than the SAA clones. Thats what a new vaquero is to me.
Completely clear. Do you have anything in stainless?
I have underwood ammo in 45 colt ain't no way in hell I'm putting that in my uberti
It is hot subject plow. Some brands are readily to get and cheaper than Ruger. Ruger is made in America (I buy american made products as much I can) with a great support. But hard to get and salty priced. To sumarize, if you want a looks like pony with 4 clicks they are great clones.
Alabama Elephants is that what you
I am thinking of getting one of the .45 colt clones. Any opinion on whether to get a 4 click vs 3 click revolver? Which is the way to go?

@@plowboysghost thanks that is the info I needed.
Keep well marked hot loads
I would not call a gun with a transfer bar and a one piece grip frame a 'SAA' I will stick with my Colts and Uberti If I am going into dangerous game territory where say a bear is involved? I would take one of my DA 44 mags.Pretty sure my Uberti in 44 spl with my 250 grain cast and coated bullets at around 825 fps or so will handle just about anything. This load is a pretty safe load for the Uberti. To me they feel very much like a Colt and handle the same. The Ruger does not.

The Ruger doesn't HAVE to be like my Colt clones. The large frame Rugers stand on their own. 300-365 gr @ 1200-1300+ fps is pretty damned awesome...in it's own right.

I would agree but... to what end? My double action 44 mags... Smith.. Dan Wesson, Handle better and have better sights etc and give me rapid second etc shots.. Now back in the early 70's I owned a Ruger SBH and really abused that gun with heavy loads.. it ate em up.. put maybe 50k rounds through it.. but back then the Smiths were a tad weaker and VERY expensive and the Colt SAA were weak and expensive so there was not a lot of choice. Also the Ruger was well made back then.. in spec.. Lately I have seen Rugers with mismatched barrel and chamber sizes.. all over the map.. Take a set of pin gauges to yours. The worst was the 44-40 with .430 barrel and .428 chambers... imagine shooting cast slugs in that gun. My point tho now is that I don't see a point for the Ruger.... Strong...but so are almost all 44 mags these days Smith included.. Don't look feel or handle like a SAA..and not as fast (especially for reloads) as a DA.. I have never acutually liked 45 Colt much and favor the 44 spl and 44 mag. This may be because when I started shooting the brass had already been changed 3 times (the rim) Also the 44 gives you just a little more meat in the Cyl.. And ther 44 is more accurate in every real life test I have done or seen. I love the Uberti's and even the BP replicas. I have plated the barrels and gripframes in bright nickel... leaving the frame color case hardened... this is practical and gorgeous in my opionion. which brings me to the color case hardened... with nickel or blue that is my favorite Color case and bright nickel... The Uberti and Pietta color case is really nice looking. @@plowboysghost
