I have had to educate several people about the 10mm over the years. It is essentially the ballistic equivalent of 357 magnum. That was the original intent when it was designed. However, you generally only get that level of power out of boutique ammo companies or with hand loads. Most standard factory loadings are somewhat underpowered. It is a great cartridge and pretty powerful for an autoloader, but is not nearly the power of many of the revolver cartridges.

The auto loading crowd always uses the same arguments to justify their lack of thinking skills. Velocity, Energy and Capacity are the arguments they repetitively use. They don't want to discuss the items that make a cartridge effective. Bullet shape, weight and diameter are truly what matters. They always like to throw in the very mysterious and magical sounding "Modern Bullet Technology" and talk about the time they shot some jello and wow what great results they got. Unfortunately, most of the KZread gun channels are now just infomercials, they are only a few steps away from the old tv celebrities selling time shares on QVC

I've got no problem with the caliber of cartridge anyone wants to carry so long as they can hit what they're aiming at and not hit me 30 feet away from their target. I've got nothing against 9mm or 10mm but I don't carry them. I shoot both well but I tend to shoot my revolvers better so I carry those instead.

Personally, I carry 10mm (Glock 40) for bear and mountain lion defense in the mountains, and carry 9mm for self-defense in town. I sold my 1911 because I can't hit the broad side of a barn with it. The fault is mine, not the design because John Moses Browning (peace be upon him) was a genius. A coworker bought it and can shoot .45 more accurately than with a 9mm, which is rare in my experience. Moral of the story: to each his own and carry what works for you.

I've got several semi autos and revolvers and carried both semi autos and revolvers as a police officer. The 10mm is very good outdoors defense caliber and a great choice IF you have thoroughly tested that exact cartridge in that exact gun. You have to be absolutely sure its going to function perfectly when you need it. Personally I don't own a 10mm because I can shoot .45 Super out my G21 w/Storm Lake extended ported barrel and a spring change. I wouldn't think twice about trusting it in the big bear woods but I also like to hedge my bets by also having a revolver. I'm not climbing mountains either so a pistol in holster and a .44 magnum revolver in chest rig would still be plenty manageable. Although since my favorite caliber is .45 Colt, I would want to carry my Bisley Blackhawk. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I'll likely never make it to that part of the country so I'm just daydreaming anyway. As far as Chuke goes, I don't watch any of his Bigfoot stuff. I do watch his other videos and while he does prefer 10mm if you're carrying a semi auto, the gun he says he prefers to carry is a Ruger Redhawk Toklat .454 Casull. I give him a lot of credit for testing a lot of different guns and cartridge combinations. He's not an expert and he often says that in his videos. I enjoy watching him learn new things and showing others along the way. He's definitely out there on the bigfoot stuff but he's also a pretty humble guy which I appreciate. A total opposite of that slime trail leaving Yankee Marshal who I stopped following when he falsely accused Mr. Guns N Gear of stolen valor and then went into that barricaded part of Portland during the riots and declared all the people there were just peaceful people (completely ignoring those same people had rioted, burned, robbed and destroyed a large part of that city not long before his little video walk around).

45 cap has some powerful variations, you can run 45 super which can be loaded hot like a 10mm, there’s also 460 Rowland, which is a very hot 45acp with a millimeter longer brass so you don’t accidentally chamber it in an unmodified firearm. My favorite is 45 colt or 45 super loaded hot to almost 460 Rowland power. Which makes it close to an average 44 magnum out of a 1911. 45 colt loaded with 40 grains of black is a nice round. For me 9mm has a place as being cheap to shoot and practice with, I have a red dot and slicked up trigger and high capacity magazines and practice with it, and only for that reason I don’t mind carrying it for defense, I still prefer my 1911 commander in 45 because it feels like confidence in my hand and I love the feel of the bone grip. A 1911 commander 4 and 1/4 inch barrel side by side with a Glock 19 they look about the same size. That Glock 19 never made me feel a boost of confidence.

One thing I rarely, if ever, hear or see mentioned/covered in videos is the infamous failure to feed/extract/go bang/bad magazine problems common to ALL semi-auto pistols. I much prefer being able to simply pull the trigger to bring up the next chamber of a revolver when the one before it does not go bang. But I can be two faced on the subject of semi-autos. I retired a perfectly serviceable, very accurate 9mm to the gun safe because I simply came to distrust the round, regardless of bullet type or manufacturer, to get the job done when I really, really needed it too. I reverted to my old, all metal, single stack Smith (compact) in .40S&W and usually carry it loaded with 155grn JHPs but have been known to switch to 135grn JHP rounds. I still carry two extra mags, just as I did with 9mm, or 9 Minimal as I like to call it, because if my faithful old .40S&W does "jam" as I'm sure it will eventually, I can just drop that mag, clear the feed ramp/chamber in a big hurry and insert magazine #2. But I am looking at a Charter Arms "Bulldog", in .44 Special, that has been calling out to me since I traded it's twin off back in 1980....For a damn 9 Minimal. If I go with the 21st century version of that little revolver I bet I won't make the mistake of trading it off. Five 250grn LSWCHPs in the wheel and ten in two speed loaders makes for a serious defensive load out. As for YM....Well, I did subscribe to his channel for a while, but no more. And I won't be going back!

Forgotten weapons did a nice explanation of companion cartridges, rifle, SMG pistol and what I took away from his explanation is that if it weren’t for the pistol caliber SMG‘s that the military use. 9 mm wouldn’t even be a thing they carry 9 mm pistols now because they’re better than the 45 is because the SMG use 9mm For the most part, and having the same round available for your pistol and your Long gun has been a thing since the 1870s ie 44wcf rifles and handguns

Plowboy, what I like about you and your content is that you understand real power. You don’t depend on emotions to back up your stance on a subject. You know your beans about what it takes to knockdown a powerful threat. I’ve read about hunters using autos in the back country for protection against the bad woolly buggers but for me I’d start off with a .357 mag then work my way up to a .45colt or a .44mag in bear country. Now I wouldn’t brown or griz hunt with a sidearm because I’m just not that good with one but I would definitely have my Blackhawk on me for backup. Your logic always trumps these idiot Bigfoot hunters!!!😄 You didn’t ramble, just made very good points!! Keep them coming brother! Btw, I just bought an old H&R single shot .44 mag!!! It shoots straight as a string at 50 yards with a 1.5” group iron sights. Not too bad for an old fart like me with aging eyeballs!! Thanks and always great video. 👍

The main issues that need addressing when enjoying the Great Land are Moose and Bears. Those are handgun worthy opponents up here because you will encounter these close up, like when your enjoying a nice walk through nature and they just happen to cross the path ahead of you and get startled or offended by your presence. The Sasquatch up here are very aware of you - way more than you could ever be of them and they will purposely distance themselves from you. They would require some distance marksmanship skill with an adequate high power rifle caliber IF someone was so inclined to take a shot at a creature that eerily resembles a person. I would never shoot at one because even though my mind understands that no human in a costume would be in the areas where these sightings occur at the times they've occurred, there's always that nagging possibiliity that it is a person cleverly trying to outsmart and hoax you, even say 4 days or 5 days hike back in the most remote and horribly strenuous places to get to where only the trophy mammals of Alaska are supposed to reside. Why would someone who is already 7 foot tall or more pack in cumbersome ghillie suit at near freezing temps when ultra-lite gear and camp pack would be essential especially if you were expecting to haul any meat out with you? But you'll notice the nagging persists. Then you think as they wander off at quarter shoulder away from you, how does one even go about harvesting and processing something so closely related to our species without some Jeffery Dahmer instincts? When you see them these thoughts pervade, and then you realize the short barrel 44 Mag revolver in your chest holster is not going to ever be able to reach that far anyway, say the distance of 2 mountain saddles away from you, or a half dozen power pole distances away on a huge straight neverending utility right of way cut through the wilderness where each set of 80 foot tall poles are set 250 yards apart. This is where they'll let you see them - but make no mistake they know exactly where you are at all times. They don't have to hunt for you. If they ever get close enough to let you smell them, by the time you catch a whiff they have already backed out far enough to just observe your reaction from a safe distance. So the 44 Mag is the ideal side arm for Moose and Bear in AK, moose being the most dangerous, most deadly and most prolific encounters you're apt to have where distances are way too close for comfort. Otherwise enjoy the best the Great Land has to offer and please leave our hairy bipedal friends alone. Thanks.

While I'm a fan of both 9mm and 45 acp in the right gun. 1911's, Hi Powers, and even Beretta 92's. They are no longer my carry gun. As far as Bigfoot goes, I've seen one at about 50 feet in my headlights, while on duty.I was armed with a 1911 in .45 Acp at the time, and I guarantee it wouldn't have been big enough to put it down. I don't know if any handgun is. It had to be 800 pounds of spring steel and rawhide. I wouldn't want less than a .30-06 and preferably a 45-70 or some African dangerous game round. Not long after I saw the bigfoot, I was severely injured in the line of duty. What do you do with a crippled up old Cop. My gun collection took a beating. I have two handguns left. A cap and ball Remington and Single Action Army (Italian) in .45 Colt. What can I say, I'm an old Cowboy. I don't shoot the Remington much. The Single Action Army usually rides in a crossdraw holster that I got from Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged Holsters. Around town, I load it with 250 grain Hornaday XTP hollow points. I know it won't take the pressures of a Ruger, so my load in the hills is very vintage. 40 grains of 3f black powder behind a 250 gr hard cast bullet. The black powder lets me get more velocity without stressing the gun. It's not perfect; but it did the job in 1880. I'm down to three rifles two of them are .22's and Dad's old 30-30. The .30-30 will do most anything in a pinch. Sometimes you gotta run with what you brung.

I agree. There is a LOT of hype going on in the shooting community. Some of it is completely nonsensical. I kind of look at it this way, its what is PROVEN to get the job done. Bottom line: 45LC has been putting bad men down for over 100 years. Its a known quantity. .357, .45acp, 44 magnum are all known quantities. A lot of these newer cartridges don't have that history. I'd also point out that the wonder bullets a lot of folks tout rely on specialty alloys. After multiple ammo shortages you can't be sure of getting those bullets when the chips are down. So the bottom line is which are you going to bet your ass on, the cartridges that are proven to work or the ones that may work.

I've watched a lot of Yankees videos, but never seen his Sasquatch content. As for 9mm vs .44, bears aren't a thing in Chicago (especially on the gridiron 😅) but a 5 shot L Frame like the Smith 69 or Taurus Tracker (if they ever made one in .44) would be just as carryable as a mid sized 9mm so it's individual choice and training. Every caliber gets over rated not just the 10 mm, every caliber gets it time in popularity, 10 mm is seeing a lot of new semi autos, having a semi auto like the Glock 20 10 mm is what saved the 10 mm and all large semi auto guns are compared to it for a bench mark of what a good 10 mm is, no one is saying a 10 mm is as powerful as a 44 mag, but you have to admit having 15 and 30 round mags loaded with real 10 mm like the real 750 ft/lbs loads with manageable recoil is a lot of high volume fire power, not to many semi autos 10 mm back in the day that could hold up to the 10 mm, the Glock 20 kept it alive, it has lots of versatility, 4 calibers with out swapping mags or springs, but because the Glock 20 10 mm interest took off the manufactures thought they would make their version of the 10 mm so 10 mm is regaining popularity but that doesn't mean it's over rated, most 10 mm guys like myself never claimed it's like a 44 magnum, and guy who says that is has a cherry picked bias but all calibers you could give examples or how they get their hype, even me and my sig 322 22 lr I can carry with my 5.11 vest and Jean pockets 275 rounds fully loaded magazines, that's a lot of fire power with good shot placement to handle any 2 legged threats, 25 round magazines for it, so 22 lr had lot of hype the last year or so, even the 44 magnum like the dirty harry days being popular any everyone wanted one so 10 mm just happens to be getting popular again but that doesn't mean we are over rating it, us true 10 mm guys know what its capable of aside from exaggeration, 44 mag used to be over rated to so there is a tall tale and exaggeration about every caliber not just the 10 mm, 10 mm not as powerful as 44 mag but that doesn't mean it has nothing to offer, it's a good cartridge

A range person said try this CZ75 compact, WOW! I shot WAY BETTER the first 5 rounds. I asked if it was reworked and he said NO. 25 more rounds and I ordered the CZ, My friend was going through the same with his Glock and shot better with his new SSA so he tried the CZ.. Same better target scoring. we ordered two CZ75s. I will keep GLOCK when riding my Harley for long hauls, only. For what it is worth... If you're in bear country, camping, working, whatever, you should have, what I would call, an "encounter" gun. You weren't planning on shooting a bear, but the bear had a contrary opinion. In this instance you are encumbered with backpacks, canteens & other equipment. That means you should have a pistol that is easy to carry, quick to access, simple to operate & of robust construction. Blackhawks or similar pistols, in suitable calibers, are just the ticket. They should be considered in the same light as a stout folding knife. You don't carry the knife to cut tent poles, but if you had to, you could. If your specific purpose, is to hunt with a handgun, that is another enterprise best accomplished with different equipment.

I will also like to leave you with this.. belief and knowledge are two different things, and WE all believe more than we know!! Whatever you believe or don’t believe is your religion, every human on earth has a belief it is inescapable!! P.S. they exist and when I say “they” I’m simply talking about other entities that exist in a different spectrum of frequency and vibration and it seems through all the evidence and research from a multitude of different sources that they can somehow enter our spectrum and so on.. are they apes? Or aliens.. well from what I’ve researched over the years “they” “it” can change how we perceive them.. so they are whatever it is they want to appear to be to us..
