Thanks Felipe. I do struggle with this content and whether it should be on our Fstoppers channel or not but since we reach so many people and Lee and I are the main faces on this channel, I feel like it's a good platform. Thanks for letting me know you appreciate it too even though it falls outside the normal scope of our content. -P

@@FStoppers IMHO use the channel, it will have more reach, you built it, you should be able to use it for a good cause. We are humans and life has it's challenges, if we never use we have at hand for the good, we won't be doing our moral duty... and btw, if someone doesn't like those videos you labeled so clearly that they can just skip it and wait for the ones they want to see :)

Patrick, I’ve watched you in a lot of fStoppers videos and have long respected you as a photographer and videographer, but never felt one way or the other about you as a human being. This series about your Crohn’s experience changes everything. You are one gutsy dude! Ever since I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition myself, I suddenly became aware that a vast number of folks could experience a life-changing difference in their health, if only they would or could start using Enbrel or Humira. I know that a lot of people who are using these medicines stay “in the closet” about it, because of social factors -people might think they have the plague. Crohn’s in particular seems to cause embarrassment. Well, my friend, YOU are doing a huge service to everyone with treatable autoimmune conditions, just by saying “Dammit, I’m going public about this!” Trust me, you are changing lives and quite probably saving lives too. God bless you, Patrick, and rest assured that all your work at fStoppers might be saving lives, simply because you have the guts to speak out about your Crohn’s and your treatment for same. I hope you will be tracking your success -or failure-with this treatment on KZread, and it sounds as if you intend to do so. Go for it!

Excellent video. A couple of thoughts... I have taken three injections for diabetes (two types of insulin and trulicity) and one of the things that is important is that the meds stay cool. If you are planning on taking the meds within a specific amount of time (14 days, for example), the meds do not need to be refrigerated. This part is important, because if you plan carefully, you don’t necessarily have to refrigerate your meds. I don’t need a biologic (like Humira), but insulin is stupid expensive and so getting this right is important. You are doing the right thing now, by following the instructions exactly (as difficult as that might be). As you get further along and gain experience with the meds, you will be able to plan your travel and your dosages more precisely without refrigeration. Traveling with meds (and I still have to travel with 12 medications and 1 injectable) is challenging but not impossible. It’s a matter of planning and in my case, I no longer have to take the insulin (had a gastric bypass which put my diabetes in remission), I don’t have to worry about refrigeration. Getting to a place in which you can carry your meds effectively (and minimally) will be important. However, for now, getting it right is the important consideration and you are exactly on track. While your videos are not photography related, they are important because there are people who have Crohn’s (I am close to a person who has it) and those who have to take injections need to get over the fear of taking them. As you discovered, it isn’t as bad some will claim, but still an injection is an injection. Well done!

very sorry to hear about your pain! Apparently there is a newer citrate free version of humira which can for some reduce or eliminate the burning or stinging of the injection. It however needs a newer prescription. Try discussing this with your doctor or pharmacist and see if it can help you. (They apparently use a newer formula for the buffer and replace the citrate buffer which might cause pain for some. the active ingredient adalimumab remains the same)

I'm just starting Humira today, but for R.A. - I am switching from Enbrel. I also have Crohn's (ileitis) which was triggered by the Enbrel! Oy! Stumbled upon this video today - and I've also watched some of your videos before this, so it was kinda cool to see I could relate to someone familiar on my first day of it. Hope you're getting positive results from your current treatment. The sound from the Humira pen was way louder than I expected it would be, and I've had injections of all sorts in the last year (including Lupron to put me into menopause - look up the size of THAT one, LOL) and I totally agree that it's a painless shot!

Hi, have Humira for a bit more then two years. After two years i changed from 40mg all two weeks to 80mg all 4 weeks, thats makes it more easy to travel! I hope that you can change also after a time! Take care!

But you can never travel more than 1 month at a stretch, just like before. So I don’t see any benefit.

I just had a local anesthetic in my side (to change my implant battery normally general anesthetic) It was the worst injection EVER. But it did get me out of the hospital quickly. So worth the stinging. Thanks for sharing your issues so openly.

You have no idea how much anxiety you just pulled off of me. Ty! I've had my Humira and just holding it due to giving it to myself. Also mine got delivered in just that white Styrofoam all dirty. Excited to go read your updates and how you are doing.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's but turns out it was UC. I was just prescribed Humira today and I'm been extremely nervous but have been willing to try anything because my health has been so bad. Thanks for putting me at ease.

My second dose is tomorrow, and the first time I cried a little because I was scared and I was a wimp because I literally hate needles haha. But I’m 14 and after I got them, I- I felt like such a WIMP lmao I like don’t even think I felt it. It’s amazing I’m so glad I chose this over Remicade. (If that’s how you spell it). Thank you for sharing ur experience! :)

My first doses showed up on my doorstep a few days ago--the Fed-Ex driver sat it on the porch in the direct sun in 95 degree heat and never bothered to knock. Thank goodness I stuck my head out the door to yell at my dog and spotted it, LOL. The ice packs were almost gone--but I think I got to it in time. Thank you for the hack of waiting so you can have spare medication on hand--that is an awesome idea! Thanks for the video!

Excellent video. I'm about to do my first injection(s). Did the travel pack come with your first dose, or was that a separate purchase? Asking because, well, I did not get one and need one. :)

Patrick - thank you for sharing this experience. I'm moving to Puerto Rico next month. I have enjoyed immensely your other videos about life in Puerto Rico! I'm also on a biologic for rheumatoid arthritis. It's a similar drug to Humira, it also it costs thousands each month and needs to be refrigerated. I've VERY concerned about getting my prescription in PR - how are you managing now? My insurance here in California will be cancelled after next month, and I will need to get PR insurance, but finding out if they cover this drug is overwhelming. Are u covered by insurance in PR? What kind of costs are you covering out of pocket. I changed my plan a few months ago and they wanted 3K at the pharmacy! Currently paying just 250/each 4 weeks. Mind if I ask which insurance? I'll be an act 20/22/60 resident.

So jealous! My starter shots were 4 of the 40ml pens. I couldn’t do the first one. I was shaking so much! 😂 I had my sister do it in my thigh. I did the second one in my abdomen. I have to take the other two today and I’m still anxious about it. It is easy and quick but that pushing the plum button still freaks me out. Hopefully it gets easier and calmer over time.
