ive been taking humira for over 4 years now, but im still not able to do the injection myself... as a 21 year old whos lived on her own for 2 years it's been a big issue training my friends and family to assist me but i just can't break my fear of pushing that button myself. thank you for your video it's helped a lot to realize it's possible

I’m starting Humira very soon and although I’m having my first injection with the nurse I wanted to know what to expect. Watching your video really made me feel better about having to do this and it was better watching you give yourself the injection vs the tutorials with the fake skin. Thank you so much for sharing.

I had a massive phobia of needles that gave me panic attacks when I first started humira. What helped me get over it (and I do seem to have gotten over it) is two things, 1) My doctor lent me a practice pen so I could develop muscle memory without any pain involved (highly, highly recommed this), and 2) I found injecting in my upper thigh way more manageable than doing it in my stomach. I tend to pinch my thigh skin hard enough to cause a little pain (because I have quite lean legs and there's not a lot to grab, and because it gives me another sensation to occupy my brain) and inject to the side of my pinch, on the skin that's lifted up by pinching but not between my pinching fingers. I've found this is way easier on my mind than injecting into my tummy, and actually hurts a lot less. My first injection into my leg with this technique made me think the injection had failed because I felt literally nothing. But I was able to watch the plunger do its business and inject the full dose. And since then it has been successful each time. This has worked wonders for me, and has changed humira from something I dreaded every week into something that I don't ever lose sleep over anymore. Talk to your doctor about using this technique, as I am not qualified to give medical advice, this is just what anecdotally works for me. Also watching youtube videos such as this helped me with thinking about it in a different light. It is all in your head and it is definitely worth it. I take Humira once a week for Colitis.

Thank you for sharing your experience Jill, you will probably receive a few liked notifications with your video's from me, i started Imradi about four weeks ago, so i was curious to look on KZread (which i don't normally do) i have had Crohns since the early 1980's, 4 ops, most of my small bowel taken away, i guess i have been lucky (if you can call it luck because after my first op around 1986 i had no flare up for 17 years, i would say that my Crohn's is not cronic compared to some, during my lifetime but it seems whenever i have had flare ups i always went in for the ops (by the way, i'm jealous, your scar looks a little bit longer than mine) so was you born with it, that's very sad and have obviously suffered a lot, i've never been a good ambassador for the disease, doing charity things or helping people, may be i should change, i've always kept my illness to myself, anyhow, sorry for rabbiting on, your a natural in front of the camera, i've enjoyed watching, the first 4 injections went easy, i done them myself with a nurse present, the one after that hurt a bit more and the latest one hurt more but maybe it was because i stood up not long after, must try and relax in future, sorry for this, it's not a comment, it's an essay, you have a nice weekend and take care, stay well :)

You helped me a lot. I’m taking Humira for crohn’s as well and I’ve just stared Humira (I’ve only done the 4 pens. Nurse did 1. I did 3) still a bit nervous. I really hate the sting but I think I didn’t leave it out long enough. I’ll leave it out for an hour instead of 30 minutes. Rachy 97_ You are so brave! I could only do one of the four. I was such a wimp :) Yes, leave it out for a few hours even. As long as it is at room temperature (not cold, not in the sunlight). Also, I just started using syringes. I’ll have a video tutorial soon! Getting comfortable with my scar took some time, but once you meet a person that is like “its just a scar :)” all the fear goes away! Thanks!

Humera has honestly changed my life completely. It sucks at first until you find how to make injecting work for you. my trick to less pain is I let it sit out for about an hour before injection and injecting in the stomach about a thumb length away from the belly button. The stomach is 10000x less painful then the leg. I also listen to really loud music with headphones because hearing the clicking of the pen when it shoots the needle seems to make the experience worse then it already is.

Your video was the only realistic helpful one! I went in, and they had me do it myself, no practice ones. I injected in my stomach. It felt like nothing. After it felt like spilled water all over. It was nerves that worked me up for sure!

Romil Somaiya I hope you find relief. It will take practice. I now use syringes instead of the pens. They are less intense. Also, use citrate free version if they are available.

I'm probably about to start Humira for RA. Your straightforward approach is effective. You're correct about scars. We are life warriors and our scars recognize our battles. Be proud. Curious as to why you switched to syringe. Thanks for your courage and sharing.

I can't thank you enough for making this video. I'm currently trying to decide between infliximab infusions and the humira. The part about scars might have made me cry a little bit, I needed to hear that. I'm still not sure what way to go but I'm hopeful that the biologic will make a difference. I've not had anything close to a normal life in two years and this is the drug I'm pinning my hopes on. x

I put off trying biologics for too long because we doubted their results, but i’m so glad I tried it. I choose home injections for convenience and less time at the hospital. datura1919 Infusions can be convenient too if you live close and have good veins. My veins collapse with IVs all the time, so infusions were not a good idea for me haha. Bring a book, or something to do during your infusion. They take a while 😄 I wish you well!

Watched your video all the way through as I have a family that takes Humira now. I'm sorry you inflicted with this as your're a beautiful young lady that should have been spared this disease. However God loves us all so much that He uses the inflictions as a way of shaping our lives that we simply can't understand in this current life. My inflictions and troubles paved a way for me to find my wife and her wonderful family, so keep that mind. Also, If any man would be foolish enough to walk away from you by just that small scar, he's absolutely not worth you at all. You're a lovely woman and never settle for less. My wife has a scar running down her bikini line due to an accident. I absolutely love her so much that I prayed to God to take that scar away and give it me as a testament of my love to her. Real love is something that God created between a man and woman who will love, care and protect each other for LIFE. Praying that God gives you the best of health and life.

I just was diagnosed and am getting it I am like you by my self or my cat cuz he chill it may burn a bit but they removed the citrate I think.

I'm so greatful for the tips I too was scared and unsure about the process. But by explaining your experiences it helped me know what to expect. I'm so tired of feeling like a cross between Mr bean and Mr tinman. I want to feel better because RA has limited me so much.

That was very informative, Mahalo from Kauai. I was supposed to get my 1st shot today but got a flair w fever, so next week. I am leaning on faith for some relief of this sudden inflamation pain. I think the stomach for me too, bummer. But my legs r too muscular too. I have Polyarthritis and colitis, my rheumatologist has me taking this as all pills failed.

Miri M. Haha, well I did a little countdown before pushing the button, I might not have shown it. Another tip is to play your favorite slow jam and commit to hitting the button before the song ends. It helps when you are psyching yourself out. It will get easier! Also, check out my syringe video.

the citric acid was removed and now, at least to me, it is almost painless. There is a sting but you barely feel it. Of course everyone is different, but it’s my experience

I have moderate to severe Crohn’s. I have been on the injector pan of Humira for two years. The mechanical click sometimes jerks the pin back and causes a misfire. I’m also a diabetic and have been doing injections with a syringe. Saw your video with the syringe thinking about changing, is it less painful? Let me know if it’s a good idea to do that. I started using Humira about 3 months ago for Rheumatoid Arthritis, cos no pill was helping. The first time, the Lab Tech lady did it for me, but she explained everything. We used a practise pen first. First time in my leg, it felt like a dog bite. I had to sit for an hour to stop shaking. After that first needle, that evening the pain in my hands started to go away, & next morning, my hands felt great! The 2nd time, she watched as I did it in my stomach, and it wasn't as bad. 3rd time, I did it at home, on my stomach, and everything went well, except a little bit of the medicine leaked out and ran down my stomach. Next time, a little bit of the medicine leaked again, so I called Abbvicare & the lady said, lay down the next time. So I laid down, did it, & still the medicine leaked out. I'm afraid I'm not getting all the medication, and it's damn expensive. What am I doing wrong?

Liz Kerr I just used HUMIRA pen for the first time and I think most of the med leaked out. I jerked my hand when it popped because it startled me. Sucks.

I’m really struggling with my auto injections that I’m doing. I don’t do humira but a new medication for migraine. I have to do two a month and it’s so painful and I bleed and this last round I bruised so much. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, it’s like every time I do it it gets worse. 😫

Megan Gonyea First, I totally understand how you feel. Can you try syringes? They are so tiny, don’t hurt as much and go in nice and slow. I switch last year and MY LIFE HAS CHANGED. If you can’t switch, try a different part of your body that is softer. The bruising is due to the pen having a hard time penetrating or pushing too hard. I hope it gets better for you!

Well, I did starter kit today. 1 , 80 mg. Felt almost nothing. Did (no citric acid, 1/2020) no burn) didn't really need bandaid. Drove home

I'm pretty late, but I'm starting Humria on Tuesday for my Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and CRMO. Thank you for the tips!! I'm really scared 😬😬

donna gover yes, let it come to room temperature so it has less of a sensation when it hits your bloodstream/tissue.

I inject them in my leg--and i don't have much hurt at all. I think I have heard that stomach hurts. Is there some difference in stomach versus leg in terms of effectiveness?

CYT There isn’t an absorption difference, I prefer my stomach because my legs are thick and the skin in my abdomen is softer. It penetrates a little easier that way.

Hey, I may switch to Humira injections from Infliximab transfusions. All I wanted to know is what side effects did you have, is there any pain, and am I overthinking them? I feel like the idea of self injecting is putting me off, Thank you :)

I never did infusions because I have bad veins. I would do syringes from the start if you can! They are so much easier and little to no pinch pain.

What to do if there's a problem with an injector? My starter pack on one of the pens the plastics sleeve that supposed to drop after the injection dropped before, and the needle couldn't reach my skin. Aside from that, it wasn't that bad, more of a psychological obstacle.

OldDannyboy12 I had a misfire before too. You call your doctor and let them know. Then, they usually have you call Humiras number and you just explain you had an issue. They will ask you for the lot # on the box if you still have it. They will send you a replacement. Yes, it is tricky mentally. I ended up switching to syringes. It’s less intimidating, in my opinion. Take care!

By the way, I have survived everything well, it did not hurt anything after the injection, had no nausea or vomiting, and the dizziness luckily stayed out too. 😊👍🏼 Now I can only hope that Imraldi works. 🙏😉

I just started this and i have uc and I was wondering how did you feel a week after taking it? I have more energy and have been able to do more things but every now and then my tummy has a slight discomfort . It doesn't hurt but it's kinda like a slight pinch feeling. They told me would take 3 months for it to kick in. I am coming off of remeicade.

Serenityblu23 I saw results after a few week. The first thing I noticed was my knees and shoulders weren’t as inflamed. I use a syringe now because I did bruise a lot from the pen. It did feel tender from the intensity of the spring. Hope this helps!

Serenityblu23 It will not have side effects AS intense. It will thin out your hair and nails. I take collagen supplements and it really has helped thicken up my hair again. But, it does not effect my hair as much as XMP did.

My dermatologist wants me too start on humira I'm nervous because it causes lymphoma.....

Dawn Hopkins Honestly, there are risks for any auto immune or skin treatments. My outlook is this; if it gives me the ability to live a full and normal life, even for a limited time, it is worth it. That is just my opinion because I grew up in a hospital room practically, and the treatment gives me the ability to live independently and healthily. Just know the risk is low, but may have common side effects (sensitivity to sun exposure, some fatigue at first, and slight changes in hair thickness, nothing major like chemo).

I need to get a 2 shots of humira tomorrow and I'm really scared (It's my first shots of humira)😔😕

10:45 is what I tell my self EVERY single time I do mine. 😣. I hate it so much as well. The click and the noise. Even when you did it to yourself I was like WAIT!! I’m not ready! You can say please like, share and subscribe 😅 you’re awesome!!

I hope it gets easier for you, if not, consider the little prefilled syringes. I switched.

I did it by myself without a nurse or doctor. I just watched a video from the Humira site :-p

You are so brave, I needed to learn it from my gastro doctor that I have a good relationship with. She was so calm and patient with me haha. I was so nervous.

I gave myself shots of Methotrexate for about a year. Hated it.Now doctors are talking about putting me Humira. Thanks for the video

Sorry you have Crohn`s decease. I have severe Iritis in both eyes.Right eye is worse. Injections of Methotrexate worked really well to keep flairs away. They had to take me off of it for it was showing signs on my liver. Hoping Humira works just as well.

Hi, I'm going to start next week using Humira. The assistant will guide me during the first shot. Thanks for sharing this vid. My doctor told me that the pen and also the mix of Humira has been improved recently. Do you use Humira in combination with 150mg azathioprine. That's what my doctor advised. patjes70 I use just Humira. I used Humira to help transition me off of oral steroids and antibiotics. It worked well. I was off all oral medication in a few months. And i’v been doing great since! (5 years strong). Good luck!

Ok. Great to hear. I'm now switching from remicade to Humira but in combination with Azathioprine. Seems you only have Humira. My doctor told me that this is a frequently used combination. Anyhow I will again ask if I can not only use Humira. 25 years an 3 years ago they removed some intestines. Now I have again 15 cm of inflammation. That's why the switch. Good to hear that your are reacting good on the medicine.

@@patjes70 I had part of my large intestine/colon removed when I was 12 but the inflammation just kept spreading. For about 10 years I tried all kinds of immunospuressives and steroid/antibiotic combos but nothing helped my crohns. I decided on Humira over Remicade because of the convenience of it being at home and faster. I hope it helps you, and could possibly help heal your 15 cm like it did mine! :)

@@thatcrohnslife HI, actually they removed a part of the end of the small intestine and also a small part of the large intestine. Crohn is normally located at the end of the small inetsende. 1 was 20 when i had the first operation , the second was 25 years later (so 3 years ago). anyhow, cross my fingers. seems that my body was rejecting remicade. but great that Humira is working by you. Even they discussed the new medicine Stelara but decided to go for Humira. Cheers

Easy Peasy. I had todsy my first 4 injection. No pain at all are managed in my belly. Next week again 2 injection, after it every 2 weeks 1 injection. I received the brand Amgevita its identical as Humira but from a different manufacture. Are you familiar with this brand and do you underline that it is 100% the same as Humira? Cheers

Pushing the button is the scariest part. It doesn't hurt more than a tiny pinch. I don't know maybe it's the loud click/pop that scares me? I've been sitting here for an hour trying to get the courage to take my injection even though I've been taking it for months. I'm so upset with myself and frustrated

I understand that fear very much! So, I lived with severe Crohns for 2 decades, so for me, the risk is worth it. It has been me years of normalcy and soon, when the pandemic is over, I’m going to start weaning off Humira to lower my risk. I don’t want to be on it forever if I don’t have to.

@@thatcrohnslife mine isn't for crohns. It's a painful skin disease. So I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Had to switch to humira because my doc recommended I should stay home because of stupid covid... sigh... thanks for the video

My Pham I take it to treat Crohn's disease (an auto immune disease that ulcerates your gastro track) I use it to minimize ulcers and future damage. If I had discovered Humira 15 years ago, I could have saved my intestines from being removed :( But hey! It will be ok! Do the injections with a person that comforts you if you are scared.

My Pham I hope it works well for you, the first month my swollen joints felt so much better! Then it slowly helped the damage to my gastro track. I'm sure it will help your skin. If not, there are other biologics available for psoriasis now. Some that have different ingredients combinations and doses. Good luck!
