I take Humira for HS and the best thing is the app they have for accompanying it. Gives you reminders AND you can track your injection sites. Super handy.

Hi! I’ve been taking Humira for Crohn’s Disease for the past year. It’s been great. It began to work within a week. I still have episodes/flare ups here and there. But not as often as before. By the way, Abbvie has an app, it’s very helpful. It has a how-to inject video, you can enter the expiration and lot # of the injection pen. And best part is that it has a calendar and you can schedule (reminders) each injection for every two weeks! It also allows you to log in the injection site you chose for each injection, in case you want to switch from belly to thigh every two weeks and you might not remember where you injected last time. I hope the app helps!

I’ve never had to take Humira but I did have to give myself shots for infertility, first with the big thick needle and then the thin one. I remember wanting children so badly that I told my mother I’d use it in my eye if I had to. Anything to be healthy again Maggie and that’s what you’re doing! I’m so proud of you for taking the necessary steps to do so! You’re so very brave. ❤️🙏🏻❤️

You are so brave ! Been on Remicade (but got antibodies), then Humira and now on Entyvio for my ulcerative colitis. I didn't know there was a citrate free version of Humira !! I had to take it every friday and I started to HATE that day because of my injection XD I could stay 1 hour with my seringe in hand, not able to do it. I was happy when they had to change my medication. I chose Entyvio because it's an infusion like Remicade and I liked the little relaxing time at the clinic watching TV while the nurses are doing their job. Still doing great after 2 years now, my longest remission to this date !

Thanks for this video! I’m currently on infliximab but adalimumab is likely to be my next medication so I’m relieved to see the injections aren’t as scary as they sound (although still a bit scary!)! I can’t imagine ever giving myself an injection with a traditional syringe but the pens look doable!

i take Emgality, a migraine medication, once a month in auto-injector form and you handled that way better than I do each month! I get SO nervous and always take 5ish minutes to talk myself into giving myself the shot

I just recently found out that my Crohn’s is a lot more severe than we originally thought, and that I’m a non-responder for the Remicade infusions I was previously on. I start taking the biologic Stelara this week and I was a little worried about doing the injections myself, but this video helped calm my nerves a bit. I’ll make sure they give me a practice pen before I start. Thank you!

Your going through what I did last year. Remicade reaction followed by Stelara, followed by humera. These medications take as much as they give.

I have Rheumatoid arthritis. Been on Humira for about 5-7 years, previously on Enbrel. Way back when I started the injections, they only had the syringes. Was before the pens. But I got used to giving myself shots pretty quickly. :). Hope it helps you!

Hello Maggie and Zak. Really hope your new medication helps your crohns. I also do weekly 40mg adalimumab injections and my pain and symptoms have decreased dramatically. Love the stuff! I also have a permanent stoma :) us crohnies know about the long haul, so really hope the injections make a huge difference:) take care Laura x

I just discovered your channel. I have Crohn's. I've been on Humara for one year after 15 years of struggling. It's been a huge game changer for me. I can now eat fresh veggies and fruit!

Hope everything will be better. I had a bad case of UC and Entyvio changed my life. Still far from complete remission, but i can live again after almost 3 years of cures.

My hubby was in Humira for about five years. It worked well but he eventually became resistant to it. He’s now on Stelara which is the last biologic left for him to use.

I've been on humira for 6 1/2 years now and for me it was a game changer. I was able to stop plaquenil, azathioprine and prednisone. I've been off of it since the end of November and waiting on the ok to restart it from rheumatologist. I almost died from covid( and its complications) so no immunosupressants for me till im better 🤷‍♀️ Pain wise, I prefer injecting in the stomach, alternating sides every 2 weeks.

I had 6 good years on Humira for crohns, then got switched to the brand Imraldi (cheaper) and had an adverse reaction :-( so now on Vedolizumab, but seems to be going well. Good luck to you, it's very clever stuff 😊

I have been on humira for RA. It helps to let them warm up a bit before injecting them, 20 minutes or so. The citrate free definitely is less painful. I would get massive bruises from the original shots and they were very painful. I have found they hurt more in my thigh than my stomach. Hope they help you feel better.

I take Humira. I was never given that whole box you showed in the beginning. I just received my doses and had the nurse do the first ones to show me and make sure I was doing it right. I started with citrate and HATED it. It hurt like hell. Now I’m on citrate free. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working so we may try something else. I get so worked up and anxious that I now have a routine. I get everything ready and once I’m ready to do the shot, I blast the Beastie Boys -Sabotage. That’s the only way I get through. It also always turns out that I need to do the shot on a holiday. This year both thanksgiving and Christmas days. I asked a family member to do it on Christmas Day to give my legs a break. We did it on my upper hip. I cannot do it in my belly. I just freak out too much. Mind you I hate needles so much that I have had cavities filled, teeth pulled and root canal with ZERO Novocain or any numbing. I really hate needles! Hope this works for you...seems like it has in the past so hopefully you’re on a good road now. Be well! ❤️

Wow!! I first saw you give yourself the Humira injection.. then I went to Mary and Peter Frey’s page as I also follow their journey too (thank you Maggie for mentioning them a couple of years ago in your video.. I love their inspirational, positive videos and have been following them since the day you had mentioned them.. thank you 😊) Mary gave herself the injection for her headaches.. I felt so bad for her as it seemed like a tough injection.. I truly admire you young people... you have such fantastic attitudes and I am inspired and learning a lot from all of you!!! 👍🙏💗🙏💗

Haha you're definitely more brave than me. When I was on Humira I was so terrified that my husband had to help and give me my shot. Unfortunately it didn't work for me so I had to switch to Remicade

I was first on remicade and it went great. It was like i had no illness at all. But sadly i developed antibodies and hat to switch to humira. It is okay, but not that great. I'm getting sick all the time at a higher dosage or i have flare ups at lower dosages...

Ouchy, I couldn't do it my hubby had to do it for me; it stings like a bee sting. I used to have Remicade infusions and became allergic, switched to Humira and I developed dermatitis from head to toes that continued for 3 years even after I stopped the Humira. Praying all goes well with you.

I've been on and off Humira for close to 10 years! I definitely notice a difference, as my symptoms always seem to ramp up right before the dose. The first time I dosed it, I had to do four doses, the last time I dosed it was the bigger doses split into two. I forgot it was big and pulled it out a little early...and had to call the medication line about it. 🤦

I have to give my 9 year old injections once a week for juvenile arthritis but its better than having fluid drained from his knee every 3 months; it required a general anaesthetic and local and a full day at the hospital not to mention the pain he was in

I also am starting Humera this week.

My daughter would have insisted you needed a Disney princess or Avengers bandaid for each shot site. 😁 She hates shots (as do I) but even though she's a younger teenager now, getting a cute little kid bandaid helps with getting through the experience. Glad your tests cleared you for starting the biologic again, but worried that the MRI had unexpected results. Take care!

I just got off Humira for my UC after being on it for a year, last 6 months double the dose so once a week and it did not help me unfortunately. I also preferred the prefilled syringe as i found it hurt less than the high speed pen lol. I just got through doing my xray and bloodwork needed to go on Entyvio. Hopefully it works 🤞

I was on Humira and I know that anxiety before giving yourself the shot... I also remember that feeling where you can feel the meds going through your system.. Since my surgery 9/2019 I haven't been on meds. Not sure if I will go back on them as they didn't work to prevent it the first time. Would love to hear your thoughts. My GI doesn't really give me advise either way.

Very interesting-so it's just like an epi-pen? After my surgery I had to give myself a shot every morning and every night to prevent blood clotting. The needles were so painful-eep in my belly. I preferred to put them in the top of my leg. You got this Maggie!!

With that much liquid, I rub it to distribute it around instead of slowly absorbing...it makes it for a pain free experience for me. You made it look so easy, I took humira for about a year and I remember the medication stinging like a bee sting when it goes in? Like the needle didnt hurt and my leg wasnt sore but the medication itself stug horribly. I hated that drug, when I was on it I had blockages every week, not once before or since I stopped and its been like 5 years. It also gave me awful acne lol

That was the old version! They came out with citrate-free so there is no longer any sting - its fantastic!

My husband is on humera for psoriatic arthritis. It works wonders for him. Is inflammation markers are low enough to completely eliminate prednisone. Hopefully you have positive results as well.

I was just put back on Lovenox injections again last night for multiple blood clots in both lungs. I hate the shots 💔 I have my husband do them but cry every time because anxiety is fun 🙃 I just got off warfarin 2 months ago after being on it for almost 6 months after developing a clot on my lung 5 days postpartum. I wish I could be brave like you.

I’m always on the look out for pants literally exactly like yours that roll up like that but also hide a big bloated belly with a higher waistband. plus they are so flattering. My memories of the original Humira formulation are apparently very strong. I'm cringing watching this!

Is this your first time on Humira? I’ve been taking it for the past 4 years...I don’t like to do belly shots they’re itchy and swell up a bit more than on my thigh.

I don’t have chrons & follow your channel because I’m interested in your journey. Please pardon me if my questions seem dumb. Why are you starting humira & what is your goal? Do you still have active disease in spite of all your surgeries? Best wishes 🙏🏻♥️

Not dumb at all! I've been having an increase in Crohn's symptoms (mainly abdominal pain which is usually my tell-tale sign i might have some inflammation). This drug helps to stop my immune system from attacking my intestines

@@LetsTalkIBD Good -I'm glad you know...I have an illness similar to yours for more than 70 years and am also highly allergic so always look up nd ask about every side effect - U have even had some never seen in any other patient!

We ONLY have the citrate version here and I hated it! I'll be so upset if I have to go on it again in the future. I'd always start nervous talk singing about how good of a time I was having before doing it so that I wouldn't be mentally focusing on it 😅 "this is fine, this is fine, having a great time" 😂

The thing that would scare me about injections would be embolisms (im not trained or anything!) 😬

I’m on Humira, and it has been a wonder drug for my Crohn’s, I hope it is for you too! I prefer the pre-filled syringes to the auto-injectors. The syringes you can control the speed of injection, and they hurt less. They’re soooo expensive, but I’m fortunate they’re covered where I live. I hope that Humira works for you!! ❤️❤️

That is something you will need to talk with your doctor about. Usually people continue their medications to help prevent disease elsewhere!

I think it depends on whether you have UC or whether you have Crohns. When I had my surgery they took my large intestine to pathology for an examination and it confirmed that I had UC. UC only exists in the large intestine so I was told it would be safe to come off all my medications right after the surgery. If they find Crohns or they find inflammatory disease elsewhere then they might recommend you stay on the medication. Definitely a question for your medical team. I wish you all the best with your surgery :)

hey! i’ve been taking Simponi (made by the company who do Humira as well) for my UC, on week 9 atm and my next dose is in a week! last dose i accidentally hit a vein and my massive bruise finally went away 😂

also, how do you feel pain wise stomach vs leg? i do my leg cause i feel like i cant physically watch the window as it goes in and out but some people say it’s less painful!

My experience is that the injection hurts quite badly. So much pain that I can’t do it myself because I pull it out. In Canada we can’t get the citrate free formula, so painful no matter if it’s in the thigh or belly.

Yeah same in Australia, it was really uncomfortable for me. It didn't work for me either so that sucked. I also don't remember having the option of a pen so I had to learn how to use the needle. I had a nurse come and teach me how to do it though so that helped.

I found that sitting down and injecting into the thigh was the best way. I alternated between 6 different spots to prevent a bad reaction in any 1 spot so it would go right thigh closer to the hip, middle of the right thigh, right thigh closer to the knee and then the same on the left.

Never injected into my thigh but it n my stomach, I feel next to nothing. Good luck!!!
