Some things I have Learned after 2 years on Humira

Just an update of two big things I learned. I ramble like usual lol I make these videos without really prepping.
1.The drug has the power do wonders. Not advocating for it however. This is a conversation to have with family and your health care provider(s).
2.Autoimmune diseases are cyclical and dynamic. Be patient, even on meds.
Also meant to say Irritable Bowel Disease not Irritable Bowel Syndrome when I mentioned the example.
On a side note, sorry I have been really busy! Finished my first year of medical school and am about a month in to my second year! Lots of work

Thanks so much for your videos. I hope you are continuing to feel relief from AS. I just found your channel and subscribed. You were super informative. I have AS and have been resistant to biologics because I have had lymphoma in the past, but you're right.... this disease wears you down. It sucks hurting all the time. I am afraid to take the biologics, but I am more afraid of more fusion and more pain.

Hi Jazz, The fusion is scary but that story of lymphoma is also scary! I know while on biologics, my rheumatologist wants blood work (Namely a CBC among other things) to make sure my RBCs, WBC, etc are all in check. He wants these every 6 months. What did your doctor say about possibly starting biologics given your past medical history? Given what i said, maybe he or she requires more frequent blood work if he or she thinks its ok to start given you history? Keep me updated I would like to know what your doctor thinks:)

Hi my friend, I need to ask you something. How long did it take you to realize your improvement? I've been in actemra (another biologic treatment for 2 weeks, and I see nothing), some people told me, it generally takes time. I feel awful, because my illness is very active and mi medication seems to be a waste of time. I hope you can give me more lights. Thanks a lot for your help

Super sorry to hear that rocky. Im fortunate enough to only have AS on my plate and it being responsive to biologics. Waking up to unexplained pain is all too familiar as I had a similar experience in my mid teens. I just want you to know you're not alone Rocky. I hope you are able to find some relief my friend

@@asjourney1612 well I started taking the Humira and I am positively spawning to it and side effects do not seem to be an issue my immune system hasn't even seen the die down and I'm a smoker and I should be getting lung infections constantly but I'm not although the concern is is the higher risk of cancer not just from being a smoker but from being a smoker and taking Humira if I can quit smoking I think I'll be all right but yeah it's working out very well God willing I can go into remission and get my life back but so far so good thank you for your kind words

I am not sure! Were you definitively diagnosed with AS? I know I am a few months late to this but if you were indeed diagnosed with AS and you're still on the same meds with no relief, you should consider talking to your doctor about next steps like switching medications, etc

I would say I saw an improvement within a month and generally people notice somewhat of a change within 6 weeks. Some rheumatologists will say give it 3 months for the full effect. Would be interested to see how it is working for you down the line or if your rheumatologist makes a change

No longer on Humira. Im on Simponi now and its been going great. Humira was great for me when it worked but there was a two month period when I had to get off it due to insurance issues and when I got back on, I believe I developed a resistance to it.
