Looking forward to you fixing the RS6.For the Golf I'd just fit a 2nd hand engine.
Check the rest of the engine first! Definitely an oilpressure issue and it may affected the rest as well. Check all your cylinderwalls and the pistons before investing in a head, and of course inspect your oilpump✌️
love watching your vids. seeing someone that seems honest and true about who they are and how they act is so refreshing. none of that screamy shouty bullshit from bigger youtubers etc.
Class video as usual buddy. Best of luck with them. Love the engine content
Slap the RS6 engine in the Golf, pull the i of the GTI badge, call it a GT diesel...
Surely like others have said you might as well get another engine considering the costs of repairing, the rs6, just another bummer, but it will be great to watch the engine overall, all the best Dean, well done.
came for the rs6 content and gave a "thumbs\like" to the video, looking forward to seeing the engine come out (even though not great for you).
I thought I held the unlucky cap, the good news is it’s probably going to only go better for you, so wishing you the very best luck for 2022, look forward to your solutions to for rs6 beast, that golf seized head problem like is a cancer it could be everywhere might be prudent to.have a few checks, old one I use to do is put a clock on a piston and spanner on crank, a plunger type clock dead centre of piston to avoid the clearance of cylinder to piston gap reading, it’s not perfect but should show up shell gap clearance, set it up rock the piston with fingers near the cylinder wall note readings then turn the crank a few degrees both ways top dead centre is best place first, to stop piston clearance giving readings you can slip old feeler gauges down the side of piston till it won’t read with clock then rock the crank if the shells are damaged the readings will give up the truth 👍 your strength of mind shows up at these times, I say if a man built it I can fix it, 👍🤪
Shame about the RS6 as it was fast and sounded great, good content for the engine fix and nothing you can't do.
Unlucky but like you said, great content and I’ll certainly be tuning in!!! I want an RS6 so will be watching how this turns out !
if everything in life went smooth it would be boring, looking forward to the content these issues will create.
I feel your pain Dean, not much luck lately, great content for us followers i guess.
Good start to the new year Keep your head up lad
Really good interesting investigation Dean on the mk5, enjoyed and understood that! Best of luck with it, hopefully not too costly?! 👍👍
Loving the fsi content with mkv. Not many youtubers offer projects with that engine. Wish I would've recorded all the repairs I've done on mine.. 223,700 going strong!
Would it not just be worth finding a complete engine rather than just the head? Looks like it would have toasted the bottom end too

My thought too. You would never be certain all the rubbish had been cleared out, and if the head died the way it did, what else was being rendered non-standard in the process?

A rebuild would be more interesting tho.

@@richardjones5255 when I blew my engine out needed both turbos and a new oil cooler, stat and pipes too as it wasn't worth the risk of contaminated oil in the system I'm sure dean will be aware of that stuff though 👍
Shame the RS started smoking, but will make some interesting content Dean (don't envy you on the costs involved though!). Cheers for the update and look forward to the next vid!
Glad you tracked down the fuelling issue with the Mk7 👍 With the RS6 I had a gut feeling from the get go that it was the turbos that were bad. Easy job once the engines out but getting the engine out will be a pain. For the Mk5 GTi I would suggest pulling the rod caps n a few of the mains to see if those bearings are still good. Sounds like the owner may not have serviced it very well. Fingers crossed the Porsche sells soon 🤞
Hi from Pennsylvania. I’m a UK expat. VW products are just too finicky for Americans to be bothered with. With the amount of miles people drive here they want a car that will do 150 to 200 thousand relatively trouble free miles, these cars just don’t deliver.
That head is proper Donald! As you say though, not uncommon. Good content as always bud 👍🏻 Looking forward to watching you put them right. Have fun! Lol!
Ah man, seems like you’ve got of work on your hands, Will looks forward to seeing you put them right tho
Great content glad your back 👍
Adding to the votes for the MK5 having more than just head damage and a complete engine may be the most sensible option. Otherwise, you may end up with a money pit…. At least investigate deeper before just sourcing a head.
If you were lucky on the GTI engine it could just be top end oil starvation. Quick check on how much the rest of it has been damaged is to try turning the crank over as it is now with the head off by a spanner on the front end and spinning the turbo by the nut on the compressor wheel. If both rotate freely with no graunchiness you could be in luck. But as others have said checking the pickup and all oil passages, plus a good old flush, should be done. Hats off for all your efforts and the great videos.
When it rains, it pours around your way!! Lol. As you say lots of good content for us to watch soon. Hope the porsche sells soon.
Stick with it Dean, you can do it
If there is swarf in the GTI head, surely that will have been carried throughout the engine & affected other parts especially the crankshaft bearings?

Definitely I would be checking big end and crankshaft bearings to if its a oil pump problem. Could be a new engine😭
Been a while since I seen a video from you mate. Glad to see ypur back at it again. Tv should look to do something with you I could watch your stuff all day lol. If you wanna work on a real car you can forge my astra j vxr if you like. Looking for an honest mechanic is hard these days.
Nice start to the new year 👍
Great video. You’ve got some work ahead!
Glad you got it sorted
Keep calm and carry on..👍💪
Man all those cars at the same time makes me stressed just from watching. Will need to follow up on the RS6 though. This comment is mainly me making some noise for the video. Have a sub and a like too!
I see so many of these cars with clogged pickups that seize the cams. Also, the cam cradle wasn't coming off because the bracket on the front left of the head has a little metal protrusion that hooks into the cradle. If you back the spline bolt off about 1/4 of the way, it lets go. I think you should throw a BYD/BHZ/BWJ/CDL engine in with a K04 and it'll be great fun! I tune K04 GTIs at least once a month and they're epic laughs.
Nice to see the mk7 gti running after the hassle you've had.
on RS6 try to use TEC200 to flush the engine because I think the rings on the piston have a lot of carbon build-up and they get stuck, and this TEC200 really helps
If in doubt give it a clout!😂 Change the engine in the GTI, it’s probably nuked the bottom end as well. After the amount of work on the RS4 engine, you really are a brave man to have the nuts to haul out that V10, especially with the mileage on it! Great for us watching though Dean. Is the Porsche struggling to sell because it is categorised?
Had the same problem with mine, check the oil strainer in the sump is normally blocked with crispy bits of old oil, happens when car has been serviced with incorrect or cheap oil, my bottom end and turbo survived even thou cams had seized solid in the head, fingers crossed rest of it is OK 👍
Because of the amount of shavings in the head you should check the bottom end bearings. Probably better to source a complete engine
Vws and there brands would keep u in a job ha lv the vids happy new yr stay safe
Dean probably best to just swap out the complete lump, sure the shells/ bottom end is more that likely goosed as well. just do a engine swap video on it? I'd imagine a complete engine would be in and around the same price and you would have more of a come back on a complete unit rather than just a head. Loved the Donald ducked 😂 I haven't heard that in ages
Chin up Dean I am sure you will sort it 👍
Check the oil drain on the Turbos, usually when the bearings/seals go you hear them rattle on boost.. if its been poorly serviced you can get lumps of carbon inside the turbo oil chamber that blocks the drain ..... there really isn't alot of oil pressure inside a turbo, just a high flow straight through

Thanks mate, will check it out 👍🏽
I'm looking forward to the RS6 repair 😎😎
Love the use of the BFH, my go to tool as I own a Land Rover or 2 :-)
Thanks Dean and merry Christmas from VW! Ouch!
Take the air box out and there's 2 valves one on each air box, they have one way valves in, suck on the pipe and see if it makes a noise, they are really common on those cars and will cause it to smoke, worth checking
Great diagnosis! Is it not better to buy an entire engine for the gti? If You consider the head, all the gaskets, possibly an oil pump assembly.. Thoughts?
What a nightmare best of luck with them.👍👍👍
Great content , was planning on buying a mk5 gti !!!!!! Now im buying a lexus .....👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧STAY SAFE
Gonna be alot of fun content
Happy for you that the MK7 GTI is back on its feet. Which parts in particular did you have to replace to make this GTI to a R / R Plus? I know you've mentioned some in this video, but it would be nice to have a concise list.
If that golfs top end has starved of oil so bad it seized the cams, the bottom end will be done and also the turbo. I’d break it and just sell the wheels, abs pump, seats, doors, bumpers then bin the rest personally. With the RS6 I’d be scoping the bores first and if they are ok it’s potentially valve stem oil seals. Should be able to do them with the heads in place by pressurising the cylinders if you have enough room to get the rocker covers off. Have you done the usual valve stem oil seal check (might not be conclusive on an engine like this) but leave it idling for 3-4 mins then blip the throttle. If it smokes heavily at first then clears as you keep blipping the throttle this is usually valve stem oil seals.
Love the channel but im confussed as loads of folk say Vw and Audi are bulletproof???? Really looking forward to seeing the V10 in bits

you'll find a bunch of videos of people standing on doors because apparently the door hinges are. not so much the rest of it.
Perfectly normal VAG lifestyle. You need at least 5 of them to daily drive.

True with the newer ones, although I've been dailying my modded 1.8t, (2001 Mk1 seat Leon) for 4 years with zero issues, touch wood lol.
Unfortunately you cannot win them all.like you said make good video.good thing you are a great tech.just grit your teeth as you go,and accept the challenge.great vlog.keep doing what your doing and carry on.😎😎😎👍👍👍
First thing to do with these engines is check the Cam follower before doing anything to engine ! You've had a stinker mate Lots of stuff online about the Camshaft revision issues ,wild guess and say that's a Rev A? If you have the cam follower still that might give you an insight (albeit late) as to what's really happened. Hope you sort it mate but your in for an expensive ride!
Funny thing is, this is the 2nd video i watch on youtube this week where a EA113 has seized camshafts on the last bearing. Other one was in a A4 B7.
Looks like it’s got mighty hot on that side of the engine the valves were white too.
Check the balance shaft as the bearing is common to break up
If in doubt, twat it with a thumb detector, pissed myself when you did that 🤣
I hope your luck changes 👍
Those metal schawings are i the hole engine, just bolting a new top end and oilpump, could be a bad idea 😉
great content :) not the best result, granted - but great stuff for the channel
I agree with what others have said, microscopic bits of that swarf are going to have gone everywhere, and you'll never get it all out. I think you'd be much better off just buying a complete lump.
I’d look for a complete engine for that Mk5, one of my mates had exact issue with oiled pump and 3 oil pumps later it still hasn’t fixed it! The engine is goosed
RS6 is my fav car uve had so far.
I can tell u that the turbos will b knackered on the Audi. I have an old e class merc diesel in my work with smoke coming out the exhaust after a short time and the turbo shaft is completely knackered.
Take the fuel pump off and change the cam follower as they wear out and score the lobe on the camshaft that will probably be the issue
Admire your bravery!!
Rs6 is overfilled with oil. You check dry sump oil level while running.

@@SavingSalvage I keep posting the same info. You are checking the oil level incorrectly. The engine oil should be >60c. Then turn off the engine. Wait 2 minutes. Then dip the oil. For this reason I strongly advise you use the MMI to check the oil level not the dip stick. Dry sump systems are very easy to over fill. I dont think you are grasping that the oil tank you are dipping will have less oil in it when the car is stone cold. If you then top "up the oil" from cold you are actually putting too much oil in the system. The system is complex on the C6 and they are known for oil drain back issues. Even more so if you over fill the tank as the oil level can end up above certain valves which allows oil to drain into the induction system even with the engine off. There are various valves and separators in the system - anyone of which can cause your problem. My advice is join RS246 and ask on there - a few of the guys have been through the process of oil in the intercoolers....
@edson516

I would drain the oil and remove filter, replace with the correct amount of oil... That has to be your problem
That’s the oil pick up pipe blocked did the same to me
The RS6 I swear hasn't been the luckiest project so far
That's the car manufacturers ridiculous 30000km oil change policy. This policy for sure kills engines so you can join the consumerism lifestyle, scrap a 40k car and buy another one, or spend 20k at the dealer to fix it. Everybody is for profit nowadays, my personal opinion is that they stopped doing proper cars since 2012 or so. And I thought TFSI engines just eat oil and that's it, seems the problem is deeper. With my statement above about proper cars, I do own an Astra MK6 VXR and a Vectra GTS diesel, and the latter is 2005 with 216k km, engine is Z19DT and is bloody indestructible , it still runs today with no smoke. The VXR is 2013 and i can clearly see quality being traded off from the newer car (imagine how would it be on a standard Astra 1.6) compared to the 2005 car where all the plastics are more firm, everything is rock solid including the damn wires and connectors compared to the newer car.
Geez mate that sucks. Bottom end is probably knackered
Nice to know where you keep all the keys for the cars 👀😬
On the rs6 any chance you can show how to remove the gear knob to a small s tronic knob
Maybe edition 30 Engine replacement 😉
Hybrid turbo rs6.. Nice..
Looks like a lot of work in new year 😅
Im a Mazda man....... and all this confuses the hell out of me..... :) Admire you patience..... :) and lack of swearing... :) N x
It’s hammer time…!! 🤣
I had a similar problem and mine was the pick up pipe was blocked then just went bang 🥴
What happened to the RS3 with the dodgy new part from Audi, Mechatronic?? and also the RS4, think last video was 10 months ago. Watched all your videos but did I miss updates on these??
Can you check the oil level on the RS6 without running the car? It's a dry sump system.
You've had a great day ££££ Would it be easier to get a new engine?
Both Donald'ed! Great content though! 😅👍
Does the rs6 not run a dry sump? If it does it has to be running to be able to check the oil level you could be over filing it that’s why it’s smoking
I guess the Skoda Octavia with 200k + miles is still going strong? Must miles but most reliable of the bunch 😄
Bloody Norah Dean plenty on there
@12:22 deserved a slow motion replay!
Are you checking the oil level correctly, cannot remember but you normally don’t do it cold after standing for a while, it’s normally after getting the oil to operating temperature, shut off, leave for a few seconds then check.
@SavingSalvage
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah spot on, that’s the first thing I’ll do in the next video, however, I did have the oil level correct before and it’s still lost a lot! So don’t think it’s going to make a difference
If the rs6 is smoking valve stem oil seals I would imagine especially after it's parked oil dripping down past the valves
Are you sure the RS6 isn't just wet sumping when left standing? The missing litre of oil could well have been in the sump hence the smoke on startup while the scavenging pump tries to catch up but clearly would then be overfilled by a litre...not unknown on dry sump systems.
@SavingSalvage
2 жыл бұрын
I have previously checked the oil level correctly and topped it up. But that’s the first thing I’m going to do in the next video, just get the oil level correct and eliminate that 👍🏽
Done the daughters Audi A4 1.8 t engine cam had seized on back lobes due to oil pick up loads of swarf in engine full engine was scrap
With that much swarf the bottom end will be toast - has the car been overheated? This type of failure can be caused by the head warping after overheating.
Think it will be a full second engine, think you will find the crank has suffered.
Dean are you struggling to sell the Porsche GTS due to it being a cat car? Or has it just not had much interest?
Should have bought my Mk2 golf gti instead mate😬😬👍🏻
Who knows about the oil, but it could be just lack of oil full stop, did the owner check the oil, I've seen younger people recently who didn't know they had to check the oil once it had been serviced, cars being brought in on recovery trucks with non repairable engines.
