Most people will hate me for saying this, but i only got this when i got fat. I had a period of time when i was eating a ton of fast food, not really exsersizing as much and when i got a lot of body fat around my waste and lower stomach was when i started getting the numbness in my upper thigh, and burning fire like sensation when i tweaked it. This almost imidiatly went away after i lost rhe weight and got back to my baseline weight, it was 100% because of the access body fat pushing on the nerve

@@brookenero6667 yeah because it's body fat pushing on the nerve, that's why a lot of ppl who are fit growing up, but then gain a bunch of weight later in life end up getting these issues

Hello doctor This is Mani from India. Need your help. I have recently has a problem. While taking bath whole right getting burning sensation. I went to ortho doctor and neuro doctor. They suggested to take MRI scan. After they saw my scan report. I had issue with spinal disc space level bit less that's why nerve compression problem like L4 L5 C3 C4 problem. Still the same problem. I took tablet neuro medicine and calcium tablets. Nothing can be changed. Pls advise doctor and help me pls. I'm just 36yrs old.

Try pillow in between your legs when u sleep
This condition always get me when sleeping! When it happens, I can’t live my leg, feels like nerve is being stripped with burning sensation, and tender to touch. The pain can last for several minutes. It’s very scary. Thankfully going to see a bone dr Monday!

I bought a videogame system for the holidays and sat more than normal playing about 2 hours over two days. After that I have right thigh burning, tingling and aching even while in bed. Glad its not thrombosis.
Thank you. I’m two weeks post-op from an anterior hip replacement. I think they compressed this nerve during the retraction. I pray that they didn’t injure it in any other way. Some of the exercises you suggest conflict with the standard hip replacement guidance (no bridges, no lunges) but I will ease into them regardless. The burning numbness is my only remaining post-surgery pain. I am a very fit 60+ guy, so I think my muscle tone will hold the joint in place during the stretches.

Also have bilateral piraformis syndrome. Recovering from both last 1.5 years. Terrible. Was avid tennis player. Tried to stretch this issue away and just got worse and worse.

This was a great video! Thanks! I'll definitely try these exercises. Question: is Meralgia Paresthetica always in the right thigh? If so, should my right knee be the one to the mat and the left leg knee is up on the exercise where I lean my trunk forward over one knee (exercise toward the end). You did it as right knee up and left knee to the mat, so I wasn't sure. Please reply if you can. Thanks!

Thank you so much for giving a clear and direct information about this pain And uncomfortably. This is happening with my leg after I give birth. And the pain Goes from 3 to 6 of the time.😭 And it doesn't go away it stays in 3 in a scale from 1 to 10.
Fat guy looking to fix this, I lay in bed and I wake up from my thigh being hit by a blow torch. Tried some of these and it felt good! Will keep it up - thanks!

Try putting pillow in between your legs when you sleep it helps a lot
Can these stretches be modified for those of us who cannot get down on the floor, get on our knees AND cannot lie on our stomachs?
I feel this behind my hamstring and my inner thighs, feels like a sun burn, I always have to pull up my shorts. And it burns to bad to do Muay Thai which I think is what caused it
I decently got this problem. I had the flu with a lot of coughing. It made me sleep in a bent position with the top of the bed up for a few days. I think being in the bent position is what triggered it like you said. Will try these stretches in the morning

Have Spondylolisthesis and Meralgia Parasthetica. I fortunately have no pain but only loss of strength in my left knee. Any recommendations for exercises?
Begining of Aug 2023 I felt numbness just standing while shopping this happen to me 2x Last week and today. Last week I got on the same day but sleeping numbness. I haven't gotten it sleeping since. I didn't know what I have til I stumble upon this video. Always the left Leg my non-domanint. Why do I get it? 0verweight?!? I'm not wearing anything restricted. It doesn't hurt just numbness and I feel a bit embarrass when shopping. I have to slap my thigh to get it to wake up.
I am suffering from same problem from last 2 years. going to physiotherapist but no relief. i have been to neurologist also. he has prescribed pregabalin 75 mg BD. and tryptomer 10 mg. what should i do
I also had a similar problem without taking any medicine just by doing exercises and you cured my problem completely by myself.

I'm Having Meralgia Parresthesia since long 10 years . and Mild L2-3 bulge . My numbness 2 inch upper on the knee . I want to start your exercise . Is there any side effect ? How log it will take to cure ?
thankyou Dr. for your information, my numbness occurred after about 4 weeks of heavy strength training with my legs, i was going super deep in my squats with heavy weights and now i know that was the cause. i feel an uncomfortable sensation right in that spot where the nerve is when i squat really low. if i try squats with no weight added will the numbness and pain subside?

Hi Paul, I don’t know if I have this or not but, just over 2 years ago (Jan ‘22) 2 weeks before my 50th birthday, l was slightly reclined on our sofa, I was sliding down a bit in the chair, all I did was bend my leg (I can’t remember which leg I bent, but my bad one now is my left leg) to push myself back up into my seat, I used my hands too to push myself backwards, I remember getting a pretty bad pain in my left leg, within the hour I couldn’t hardly use my leg at all, I couldn’t sit down, if lying flat and legs straight I couldn’t raise my leg off the bed or lift it into bed unaided. About 20 times a day I’d get the most excruciating cramp like pain in the front of my thigh, so bad I had to bite down on something and putting ice on it was the only thing that eased it. I had to use crutches to move. This lasted 3 weeks before I got some (yet very painful) mobility back. I’m now left with weird multiple sensations in my leg (to describe it all would make this already too long post ridiculously long). Most of the time my knee and thigh area feels tightly bound in bandages with numbness and pain and wired feelings like my leg/foot is wet when it isn’t 🤔. I have chronic low back pain 24/7 (for 30 years now) and about 10 years ago was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Leading up to this I’d been trying to get some mobility back by using a treadmill. My own physiotherapist doesn’t seem to know what the problem is or my G.P, I’d very much appreciate and welcome any ideas you may have. Your exercise where you’re on 1 knee where your other legs’ foot is on the floor would be impossible for me to do. Thank you so much for reading this long post and I really hope you, or someone with the same symptoms, sees my post …….. Jan (🇬🇧)

If it doesn't respond, have it checked out. There are other issues that can cause this pain.
Do you have any modifications for a pregnancy, as I can’t lay on my stomach of course?
I have a psoas muscle that’s pinned, is this nerve often a part of the psoas problem?
This happens to me when I lay on my back. After about 15 minutes, the outside of my left thigh goes tingly numb. I’m not overweight and I don’t wear tight belts. I do have scoliosis but not sure if related. I can alleviate it by elevating my left leg with a pillow. Any ideas on what may be causing this? I have had it for years
Hey, I started jogging and stretching my hip flexors regularly as well as picking up certain routines for stregthening the muscles involved to fight my hollow back. I now started experiencing numbness in my outer thighs, especially after the one kneed lunge hip flexor stretch. Should I keep the routine up?

Tight belt man, thats what caused mine, I used to wear scrubs and would tighten my rope around em so tight it would cut off circulation when i sat down and would sometimes hurt, then Id go run and i'd always wonder why the front of my thighs would start going numb and burn, figured it was cutting off circulation didnt know it was from nerve dmg, that sux... now everytime i lay on my stomach it starts going numb

Yep. Tight fitting clothes around the waistline for anyone who suffers from MP is a BIG no-no.
I’m a personal trainer and a Uber driver pretty fit but I started getting this after a year of driving Uber for long periods of time I thing it’s cuz I slouch to the right when I drive putting pressure on the right hip

Is it common/possible to have most of the trouble on the outside of the lower thigh towards the side of my knee. Most of my discomfort is not high in my thigh at all, rather its about half way down on the outside of my thigh to my knee. But it is burning, numbness, tingling. It isn't complete numb, if I pinch my skin where the numb feeling is it hurts I can feel that fine. Thanks

Hello Dr , I really like Your vedios I had knee problems since December , which 3 months , (1) I have medial and lateral knee pain sometimes with walking l, pain around sides of patella , and pain around fibula head, with Both knees while The right one is severe (2) Also my right leg has abigger fibula head with sens of the hand and I can see the medial joint line(I mean alittle gap) of right knee compared to left leg . I have no injury related and I score negative on Brighton scale of hypermobility Not: I felt those knee problems after completing My 6 weak PPI medications(penteprazole) don't know if that helps , and problem started popping knee cap of right knee and pain around that knee cap I hope u help me with your experience, what it could be pls? Pls reply and help me I'm dying😪 Pls dont be like other docs either they don't reply or they don't give clear details

Here is the crazy thing ...I only developed this condition After I lost 60 pounds. I don't get it. I'm still working hard on my weight loss, but the pain and burning is overwhelming. I hope these exercises give me relief.
I've started see this issue aggressively after doing leg exercises on the gym, I'm not sure which leg exercises cause this. Really I'm not able to sleep after come back from gym on leg day. I will try your exercises, thanks

Mine started during 2nd trimester of pregnancy almost 3 yrs ago. PT helped initially and resolved but it came back and then didn't respond to the exercises I was doing. I'm going to try the massage gun and try to get sensation back.

Mine was also caused by pregnancies. Came and went through the first couple babies but came to stay after 3rd pregnancy. It's been 10 years and I'm so tired of numb, burning legs. I toss and turn all night. Maybe this will help.

@mrsalethajune The stretching really does help, you just have to stay consistent. For busy moms, it's hard but I find keeping a regimen around meal times helps me help myself. Good luck to you!

Still unsure what I've got. Outer hip, buttock and lower back numbess. Only pain in and around outer hip joint. Pins and needles in foot. 😢
Hi - I see the point of stretching, but as the pain is caused by back nerves ( I don’t understand massaging the leg, because the pain is phantom isn’t it ? It’s pain that feels like is in your leg but it’s nerve problems in your back ) Please correct me if I’m wrong. I have Sciatica too.

No, the area of nerve irritation is at the top of the thigh. Some low back nerve compression issues can cause similar pain but that is not what we are discussing in this video

Not sure if that would cause it, but you should mention it to your provider.
I believe this is the pain I get when I am bowling. I'm a right hander and my left leg is my slide leg that I post my shots with and I get sharp achy pain in my thigh on the left leg. It doesn't happen any other time only when I am bowling. An hour or two after I'm done the pain usually subsides and goes away.

You could also have impingement in your hip which can cause pain to migrate down the thigh.
I have this while pregnant! I’m not even showing yet and I’m very fit (bodybuilder at 17% body fat), so it’s definitely my uterus being rude as it grows. This is so frustrating 😢

It can be but you need to make sure that the affected leg doesn't get pinched in the front while doing the other side
I got this after. Cortisone injection in my hips. I was diagnosed by a neurologist. I literally couldn’t walk for a year until the cortisone wore off. It was horrible. I will never get another injection in any joint again.

Ive heard this and genuinely feel for you. Having said that I was just the opposite with a shoulder injury... a cortisone shot did the trick. My thoughts to this day are... cortisone works at some ratio... something like 50/50. Adding to that, the shot was administered by a person who was taking care of the Australian Olympic Volleyball team so I think they had a better idea than most about how and what exactly to do. I was very lucky.

Consider doing the opposite. Lay on your back & pull legs towards your stomach. What you say indicates a possibility of a muscle/tendon set being overworked and need 'a good rest'. Sometimes stretching can be the worst thing to do with matters such as this. Hope that will help you.

What about hip thrusts? My doctor thinks I got this because of that exercise but I know lots of other people who do hip thrusts and don’t have this

That is very possible especially if you used a bar over the front of your pelvis.

Personally I think 'hip thrusts' are a bit 'hit and miss' as are many suggested remedies for MP. At some 'ratio' eg. 50/50. Thus around XX% will see a decent improvement, while others will get worse. I think mankind will not find a 'fix' for MP for a long time. I've been suffering with this God awful condition for around 25 years and done TONS of research.

Could be meralgia paresthetica or nerve root compression in the back.
