Ortho Eval Pal with Paul Marquis PT
Hi, I'm Paul Marquis PT, entrepreneur and host of the Ortho Eval Pal Podcast. I have over 31 years of experience with the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic and sports conditions. I developed Ortho Eval Pal for YOU! I'll be honest, after 25 years of being a PT I needed a little more fuel for my "PT career" and going to KZread did just that! I bring to you orthopedic evaluation guidance through videos by getting back to the basics and throw in a few "Pearls" from my experience. Ortho Eval Pal was made for PT's, OT's, PA's, NP's, Medical students, Chiropractors, ATC's, Physicians and anyone looking to understand orthopedics better. I just hurt my shoulder on the last puch on a bag. I was stupid and threw a really strong right hook while being tired, and then i felt a wierd pain in my shoulder, i can move everything normally, but when i did the test it hurt the same way. It doesnt hurt anymore. And i dont have tendonitis and am only 14. What do i do?
I wish you would have stuck the pad ON THE FOOT to show us where to place it.
I had a soccer match yesterday and my foot it’s in pain
I got sudden sharp stabbing like pain on my left lateral hip specifically when rotating my leg externally . Is that the same problem and what do you advise me to do ? Thank you
i was injured BY a chiropractor who did two thrust manipulations of my C7/T1 (one in both direction) which left me with pain in that area (pain was not there before) and nerve tingling/pain down my arms into the 4th and 5th fingers
I've just got back from a week's walking holiday, it feels like I've a bone sticking through the bottom on my pad on the 2nd largest toe... I've no pain but yes I think it maybe Metatarsalgia.
This fits me the past few years. Onetime that I do yoga and have metatarsals on floor. What are ideas to reduce that pain.
is your daughter single? I love her!
This is what's happening to me - flat footage. X-rays MRI they told me It's arthritis. I've never aged with that. Help please.....oh going on for 3 years
100% what I do. I am having plantar fasciitis surgery in July
It certainly helped. Thanks a million
I walked into a pothole about a couple Years ago, and thank god I didn’t completely tear my Achilles tendon, but it was sore for like 3 months, it would start acting up after 10 minutes of walking, staying hydrated is the best way to avoid injuries.
Is 15 degree setting more for C7 or 25 degree? Does the flat setting hit more thoracic area or cervical? Great videos
Is a positive test good?
I have had chronic pain in my left upper arm, neck, and upper back for over four years. The only real mobility problem I have with my arm is doing the lift-off test. If I try to attempt it, I can lift my hand but I will get a deep spraining like pain in the upper back tricep into my shoulder. I've had my son assist me with the belly test and I definitely have weakness resisting him pulling my hand away. I have more strength with the bear hug test, but with enough effort my son can get my arm to give. No pain with those two tests, just the lift off test. I have the same pain if i do the lift off test with my right arm. I've had physical therapists test my mobility and strength as you are doing in the beginning of the video and i have no issues. Do you have any advice for what I am experiencing? If I had a tear or tendonitis wouldn't I get pain with overhead arm activities?
Thanks a lot. It would be quite impressive, if you could explain where the test comes from. Why does this pathological reflexive movement occur?
May 31. Thank you I think this is what I have. My doctor did provide the diagnosis. I thought it was kind of quick. I’m 127 lbs. 5’4” and active in yoga so this diagnosis surprised me. Will try these. Don’t mind paying a PT if this is what I have. Bless you a tons. Thank you so much.
I have this …it sucks …but the lace trick really works. I walk 6 miles a day and was in so much pain at the bump. Changed the way I lace the shoes exactly as shown here and no more pain … even though the ugly bump is still there after doing this lace technique the past month I have no more pain.
I don't understand why some PT's just send someone off to get imaging and ortho consult. Obviously she has shoulder disfunction that can be treated, so put together a program to get the shoulder stabilized. The SLAP tear is a condition to an underlying issue, so fix the issue.
New subscriber doc that was spot on I think I have metatarsalgia. Is a walk-in boot good if so, should it be a high heel boot or low heel so your ankles can dorseflex
Thank you so much for showing us this! I've had chronic nerve pain for decades and have been going through an episode for the past 4 days. Got major surgery tomorrow for an unrelated issue and wasn't looking forward to a hospital stay with this pain. This exercise has really help to calm it down.
If the thumb moves up or touches the forefinger one then you have a positive test , please get your stuff right cause this one is misleading big time!
You may want to consider zooming in on your foot drawings. Good info!
I have this, but can't think of any injury that would have caused it. What are some remedies?
I was diagnosed with Mild bilateral L4-L5 neural foraminal stenosis. About 2 weeks ago and I'm only 21 about to be 22 years old
This can aid in scapular winging/impingement. If you have trapezius tightness/pain. Release your chest then dead hang then strengthen serratus. Your serratus can get inhibited from Glenohumeral joint internal rotation
Does every MM bucket handle tear require a surgery? Recent studies do suggest that conservative treatment is just as good if not better than operative when it comes to most meniscal injuries!
Fibromas, ouch if too much massage
i tried this test doing an online physical test and performed it wrong. I put my hand above my butt and pulled back about three inches and had a terrible pain in my upper tricep. It was the only exercise that really triggered real pain, even though I have low level chronic pain all the time in my upper arm, neck and back. When trying to do this test correctly with the hand in the right placement, i have no extreme symptoms whatsoever. Does this provide any possible clues to what I'm dealing with?
I started to develop this around 13, played basketball and football up until college. I’m 26 now and the pain and inflammation/bump is the same or worse as when I got it 13 years ago. My physician told me it’d be fine around 18-20 so I guess I’m still growing lol
Alex has feet 👍
Can this test make more damage?
Hi, how many reps and how many times per day? Thanks
I had a tendon transfer and since since there's a big gap between my big & second toe, could I also have plantar plate tearing ?
I need to know if Bruce is alive and well RIGHT NOW!!!
Yes. Doing absolutely great!
I have a partially torn achilles with a lot of swelling in my heel due to a deep bone bruise. The doctor said it could take 6-12 months for my calcaneus to heel naturally… I asked for PRP injections to speed up the heeling process and after receiving 5 injections 90% of the swelling was gone within 60 days.
Mine is both sides Left is consistently worse but the right has been as bad at times. I cannot move my arm forward or to the sides without first pain, then excruciating pain until it reaches a point where I cannot physically lift my arms any higher. Putting on or taking of shirts or applying deodorant is difficult and excruciating. I was diagnosed with a herniated c-5 a decade ago. I had an MRI done three days ago and an appointment to go over the results tomorrow. I cannot sleep If I get 4-5 hours before it becomes unbearable and I just get up, I wake 3-4 times an hour with a jolt of pain. Everyday when I first wake, it is awful. I often lay there dreading the act of getting out of bed. A weird thing, if you were to grab my wrist and lift my arm, no pain. If I try to take over or if I do exactly as you did to lift my arm, excruciating. I have chronic non unions of the 5th metatarsal in both feet and a herniated L4-5 and T 10-11 and nothing has ever come close to the pain I’m experiencing in my shoulders. It is all day, everyday. Every single time I reach for a door, turn the steering wheel on my truck or now when I’m sitting still in my chair, pain. The first orthopedic I saw said it was arthritis 🙄
This sounds more like a shoulder issue to me because if it was coming from your neck when somebody else lift your arm should not change the amount of pain
I’m hanging tingling/ numbness in my left foot and left hand. P sure it’s from this!
12 years post surgery I developed a bone spur posterior to ACDF that could not have been reached through anterior entry. I could not have a posterior bone spur removal procedure because I can no longer tolerate anesthesia due to heart disease. But the bone spur resolved on its own after about a year.
I am BLEEDING on my foot I had croc and the cap (glass) broke. Cause
Would this work for Posterior Tibial tendonosis dysfunction (PTTD)? Who or what doctor specializes in this would you go to have this done?
I am experiencing this pain when I get out of my car or in any seated position. The pain is on top and on the side. It’s getting worse. It started 6 months ago. I am 56 years old. Is this Arthritis?
Thank you for the helpful information , I have lived with this for 3 years now and tried everything but the orthotic, I have been taping my foot , wearing softer shoes and toe wraps to tape the two toes together and it never got any better but I have nerve damage from a back surgery so my feet are always numb and sometimes painful so it's a tough case 😊
👍👍👍. Thank you
As always excellent !
How do test distinguish between CSM and ALS?
It's Sock U knee not Sowcone. Soucony 😊
Thank you for your videos. I was curious if traction and conservative non surgical treatment helped this patient or did he need surgery?
