You can almost hear the cogs whirring as Griffin foolishly charges into the topic of how long Justin's been married, realises he doesn't know the answer, then plays it off as a goof almost seamlessly

You have to get into a kissing friend group and then all of a sudden you find that YOU are a kissing person. Admittedly I'm European, but I've found myself a couple of times unthinkingly going for the cheek kiss with someone outside of my kissing friend group and every time I see the surprise in their eyes and I'm like "OH NOOOOOO I'M GOING FOR THE KISS WITH A NON-KISS FRIEND." But then I just give 'em a lil cheek smooch and a shoulder squeeze and you can see they're like "Oh wait, that was fine." and then you've made them into a kissing friend. Someone has to turn you into a kissing friend, like a virus, you can't just decide to initiate kisses.

close. the virus is NOT being a kissing friend. You've just cured them, brought them back to the natural healthy state of being a kissing friend. It's a modern disease, but it's a lot weaker than people think. Breaks down right away once that part of their brain goes "oh right, I actually love human contact."

I just have to say, I'm from the midwest where a hug is just a hug and I married into an italian american New York family and it is just an ordeal by fire for this nonsense. Sometimes they don't kiss, sometimes its one cheek sometimes its two, you never know. I straight up almost kissed like 5 of my husband's great aunts right on their mouths at a funeral it was hell on earth

not italian but in my country people kiss one cheek or two depending on which region they are from. and some people don't kiss at all just bc of their own personal comfort level, usually it's just socially awkward or overly serious people, and of course men who you are not close with (because they don't wanna come off as creepy) or you are but neither one of you is a kid and you are both men (because of the personal and societal homophobia). so there's a lot to weight in if you haven't already greeted that person before and saw where you two stand.

The real weird thing is when your comfortable doing some cheek kissing but you haven't established a rhythm yet so you go in for two kisses, one on each cheek, but they were only expecting one and start to pull away only to realise "shit there's another kiss coming"

I couldn't stop laughing everytime adults were mentioned specifically because I'm fifteen and all of my friends are used to getting lil smooches on the forehead and cheek. I hold hands with my friends, give em lil smooches, and hug lots. Then again, the context here could be greatly different than in other situations: I have severe anxiety and trust issues, so physical contact is a thing reserved for people I'm very close to. It helps me establish a bond with those I care about and it lets them know that I trust them. I suggest giving little kisses to your close friends- It's helped all of my friendships grow really strong and it's helped show certain boundaries with certain people. Edit: Also! My date-mate understands that physical contact is how I show trust and affection, but it's always important that you and your significant other try and understand each other and the boundaries you set when it comes to physical contact those outside of the relationship. Communication is key to any good relationship, especially when slightly intimate contact with those outside of the relationship is commonplace!

My main friend group easily became hugging friends because a lot of us were already hugging friends coming into the group, but I think we lowkey became a kissing friend group when while I was giving one a goodbye hug I just gave her a lil smooch on the cheek. One of the friends in this group and I have a joke rivalry for the friend who I kissed's love and affection, we always try to get her to say she loves one of us more, and we always end up hugging her a million times just to be the one to hug her most. So upon seeing this it was like a whole new world of affection, my best friend/rival was like "damn I'm going to do that too" and she did. Not including myself, there's 5 people in this group. We don't kiss super often but we did introduce the option, and in fact the last time a bunch of us hung out, in March, we gave that same friend some smooches.

My love-person kisses their friends on the cheek or forehead all the time and, it was weird at first, I can't do it even though I want to, but our friends kiss too. Only one of them is from another country, so everyone else is American. Then again, none of us are straight and we all really hate the toxic masculinity and internalized isolation that our society promotes. Kiss your friends! Touch people! Have some kind of contact with those you love

Agreed on all counts! I have a sensory issue and cannot handle unexpected/uninvited physical touch very well, but my friends are huggers and are good friends who say "is it okay if I hug you" and acting according to my "yes" or "please don't". I have friends that like to hold hands or kiss cheeks and I have friends who have the same sensory issue as me and are generally less inviting to touch. I've just adapted on a person-by-person basis while always encouraging people to be voluntarily intimate with their friends. I just love this comment very much! Touch your friends (consentually)!

My literal worst fear studying abroad was knowing it was really plausible that i would have to kiss someone on the cheek as a greeting. It happened about twice and i failed miserably both times and i like had to move past it really quickly bc if i thought about it i would have died of embarrassment. Honestly if you're going to study abroad i would recommend practicing doing the kiss on the cheek thing, note that as an acquaintance greeting you should NOT actually kiss their cheek it should be more like a kiss next to their cheek, practice this with a trusted friend bc honest to god you will either slam your head in too hard or kiss them fully on the cheek and both are so so bad
