he was probably thinking of brucellosis, which Can be contracted from contact with reindeer (thanks, santa episode of sawbones). but alas......nice try, griffin.....

I wrote my master's thesis on leprosy and I can confirm that reindeer definitely do not give you leprosy. BUT THAT WOULD BE COOL

you can tell what happened too. he read that armadillos can carry leprosy, and read that new antlers grow in as bone covered in a thin layer of velvety skin, and said skin starts sloughing off in a way that's slightly gruesome.. and he combined them in his head.

Liam White I can find absolutely nothing on Reindeers having leprosy. Armadillos are the only animal that can give you leprosy.

I don’t know what other animals can carry leprosy but armadillos are the number one source for human contractions of leprosy or, as it’s officially called for some weird reason, Hanson’s Disease
