Thank you for your honesty, Matthew. My brother lost his battle with addiction on June 20, 2021. His name was Michael. He was the most compassionate and empathetic human being I've ever known. But at the end of it all, he didn't give that love back to himself. I will never recover from losing him. There will always be an emptiness in my heart. I have so much respect for you, for being open and honest about your battles. You will save lives, and that means more than anything! I wish you absolutely nothing but the very best! Sending you love and hugs!

@@milanm403 It is MY opinion, that’s why I said “I feel…”, and it was in reference to the fact that he was nominated just once for an Emmy in his 10 years as Chandler on FRIENDS, and didn’t win. THAT is why I feel he was underrated. Geez, you must be fun at parties 🙄

I had an easy time stopping and suffered no withdrawals and for that I'm very thankful. I seriously thought I would go through that, but was blessed not to suffer through that. I rarely think about having a drink anymore. Best of luck to you and God bless you! Take care!

My heart always hurt for MP when I saw him.. when he looked like he was in crisis. I always thought he was incredibly funny, talented, but mostly just seemed like a good decent guy, having some deeper issues. Always liked Jennifer too. Seemed kind. As an XGen who watched their show, it makes me happy to see for once, that a couple of well known talents from my generation didn’t die from ODing or suicide. I’m so glad Matthew is still around, & still cleverly funny in the end. Right on my guy🙏💜

Addiction just robs its victims from three sparkle in their eyes and and the ‘spark’ they once had. It’s such a menacing thing! I wish nobody ever had to go through this. I’m happy MP made it, but it saddens me to see what it did to him. May he be blessed for trying to help others by candidly sharing his story with the world. That takes thick skinned courage right there! He’s a beautiful soul.

#DianeSawyer, #MatthewPerry While I was watching the complete Interview of Diane speaking to Matt, Diane takes a moment to advise the audience that there is “some wear and tear of Matthew’s Voice and Speech”. I have gone back over several years in the past to listen to Matt Perry doing Interviews after the Friends Series was completed. His Speech has definitely changed a lot over the years. Back in 1994, my Dad had recently lost his own father from a fatal disease. He came over to my home one day and was slurring his words. I called his Dentist to ask if he had any major Dental Work completed before this weekend. His Dentist said No and advised me to bring Dad to the Emergency Room of the nearest Hospital. When I was growing up in the 1970s, I was aware my Dad was an Alcoholic. However, it was a subject that was never discussed. On Memorial Day Weekend 1994, I am driving my Dad to the Emergency Room. My father is 53 years old. My Dad was not “Drunk” every day of his life. He worked at a Chemical Plant from Monday through Friday on rotating shifts every week. He never drank when he went to work at his job. When Dad was younger and we lived exceptionally close to the Borough’s Rescue Squad Building from the early 1960s until February 1968, he was the Captain of the Borough’s Rescue Squad. I have newspaper articles about the work my Dad did to save lives. My Dad also delivered four (4) babies before he could transport their Mom to a Hospital to deliver the babies. My Dad resigned from volunteering at the Rescue Squad because our new home which was still in the same town, was too far for him to travel to and be able to go out on an Ambulance Call. In the early 1970s, my Dad ran for Union President at the Chemical Plant where he worked. He won that Election and I know he served as Union President for more than one (1) Term. He was a highly effective Leader when he was the Union President. However, every Friday night, my Mom had to make sure the weekend began correctly by purchasing two (2) Cases of Beer and having it getting Cold in our Refrigerator on Friday afternoon. Dad only drank Beer. Every once in a while, he would change that Brand Name of the Beer. However, the most common Brand that was purchased was Budweiser. During the 1970s, when I was growing up, it was a normal weekend for Dad’s friends and sometimes they would bring their families to stop by our home for a visit. That’s when a lot of Alcohol Drinking was done. Normally the friends came with Beer when they were visiting. If we were running low on Beer, there was a Liquor Store close by that made deliveries to our home on weekends. Some of Dad’s friends did prefer a Shot and a Beer. My Parents completed a Renovation on their home that included the basement. A Large Bar was built with all different types of Liquor kept behind it. The Bar was well stocked for when Dad’s friends stopped over. Basically, Dad would be Drunk beginning Friday night (if he worked Day Shift), all day Saturday and all day Sunday. My Dad’s drinking did NOT improve his personality as far as the way that he interacted with his two (2) children or with his wife (my Mom). However, people that did not live with us did not know the man that we were living with. Everyone in town thought my Dad was a “Great Guy”. There is an old saying about a person being a “Street Angel…House Devil”. Believe me it is not an appropriate environment to raise two (2) children. On this trip to the Emergency Room for Dad’s slurred speech, the Emergency Room tried to release my Dad without doing any Testing? The ER Doctor said he didn’t see anything wrong? I advised the ER Doctor that I would not be removing my Dad from the Hospital until he is examined by his Primary Care Physician. When Dad’s Doctor arrived, he ordered several Tests. One test was an MRI of his Brain. Once those Results were given to Dad’s Physician, my father was admitted to the Hospital. Dad’s Physician advised that he had “Degeneration of the Cerebellum”. What was happening was Brain Cells from the Cerebellum part of my Dad’s Brain were dying off. Those Brain Cells do not grow back or “regenerate”. The day that my Dad’s Speech began to slur, just the right amount of Brain Cells had been killed to cause that specific symptom. Another symptom that was shown to me by Dad’s Physician was his “walking gate” had changed quite a bit. I was advised by his Physician that my father now had “Irreversible Brain Damage”. We all know that Cigarette Boxes have a Warning from the Surgeon General Regarding Hazardous Health Conditions Smoking Cigarettes can cause. Why is it that I have never seen a Warning of Any Type on any Beer Can? Drinking Beer is what caused my Dad’s Permanent Brain Damage. With the way that Matt Perry speaks currently, I wonder if he was diagnosed with Degeneration of the Cerebellum? His speech seems to have definitely changed over the years and looks like it could be a Symptom for Degeneration of the Cerebellum. I think that it is an important issue that needs to be discussed. I found out about my Dad’s Diagnosis in 1994, which is going on almost 30 years ago. I have never found a Documentary or News Program advising us that your Brain can be damaged permanently by just drinking beer over a long period of time? my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22636-cerebellar-degeneration

This is to me personally heart breaking. Like my husband you were a functional drunk. You had the added bonus of drugs. He doesn't. As a friend he is the best as a husband he is the worst. Outside he is a family man, inside the most hated man. He knows he needs to stop, I know I need to get out. Horrible disease that robbes people their lives. Nonetheless, Welcome to life. It's sad to hear you didn't think you were good enough at your job. I love your humor and your movies. The whole nine yards and sequel are one of my favorite movies. I like comedy. FRIENDS was such an ICONIC show. And I adore the cast and Matthew as Chandler very much. This is heartbreaking and at the same time a relief that he has come out to share his struggles. Just wish the best for him. BTW who are these "doctors" that are prescribing or handing out these amounts of pills to him. I swear some of the people who have the authority to hand out these amount of pills are the "drug lords" that society doesn't talk enough about.

I found this interview concerning because he fluctuated from the first person to the third person yet he never identified as “Matty” that he says he is known as personally. When talking about his addiction he refers to himself in the third person, Matthew Perry, and disassociates. Not once does he say Matty or “I” when talking about his darkest times. You cannot compartmentalize yourself. He says we will know when he relapses “when he says he is cured.” By denying his addiction and deflecting to a third party that he doesn’t answer to concerns me greatly. I wish him well but I’m not convinced that he is clean and sober and in a place to help others yet. He also says he wasn’t high on set then later says he was slurring words, cast members also said he reeked of alcohol and he said he drank vodka from a water bottle on his way to the set which makes him drunk on the set. You can’t be taking 55 pain killers in a day and not be under the influence on the set. That interview was full of contradictions. Diane Sawyer didn’t do a great job asking him the hard questions. I believe he isn’t yet fully clean right now but I do wish him well on his journey there.

But even Mick Jagger said, "There is no way to say what it is that you lose, when you lose your anonymity." I am just a nobody. There's a difference. I barely ever drink. That is one harsh lifestyle. Don't wanna die like Elvis. Don't die Matt. Everybody hates that.

Without Jesus our lives are broken. Fame and Fortunę creates an emptiness, a huge hole. Everything is vain.

What's he hiding from? I wonder. Also, i'd tell him to accept life and be thankful because he had been given so much and seemed to have mismanaged his good fortune. When he's day comes and meets the Lord, what and/or how will he answer God's question of Why?

Another Millionaire telling his sad story to make money pretending to write it all to help, while in reality they just want to make more money. If you want to help, work in shelters, give the proceeds from this book to shelters to help the poor who have a harder time to get out of this circle, because they end up on the streets with empty pockets.

It's a way to commit a slow and agonizing suicide while taking the one's who care about you along for the ride. Emotional blackmail at best. At worst, you don't want to know. Who is hiding inside the humor? The human?
